Wil seemed briefly as if he were about to speak, then closed his mouth and rested a finger against it. 

The reasonable answer to that question was clear enough. Seleya was a publicly acknowledged member of Starfleet Intelligence with a security background, not a deep-cover operative. It would have been a particularly impressive feat of stupidity to send her out to the Delta Quadrant on such a task.

Aitas: =/\= Seleya of Khanda’s testimony may prove crucial to our investigation. We wish to be most thorough. =/\=

Which was the truth, simply enough. A rather pleasant option to resort to when it came to diplomacy.

She had Fureri pass along a summary of her own encounters with Seleya to Wil. The then-cadet had been openly interested in intelligence, would benefit from additional technical expertise (a fact that made her even more unsuitable for any attempts at covertly surveilling the Trenvonn), and possessed a sort of emotional reticence that might have slipped into risk-taking in certain areas.

If Seleya had suddenly appeared in an escape pod near where she was supposed to be, Aitas would not have ruled out Seleya being set off-course by a pretty face. But the Delta Quadrant was far more distant.

She folded her hands together. How much her body language carried over to the Trenvonn in turn…well, she was providing them with further data, at the very least.

She made a show of contemplation: fingers interlaced, her head slightly bowed. 

Aitas: =/\= The medical personnel have many skills and a great breadth of knowledge, but Seleya's species is not common among our ranks. =/\= 

In other words, Seleya was far too distinctive to be useful for subversion.

Aitas kept herself still, calm, thoughtful. The Trenvonn had knowledge to gain merely from Seleya’s treatment, from whatever the intelligence officer had told them. How much they would value it was less clear. 

Aitas: =/\= Information is always crucial, Grand Expert, and even more so when the unexpected appears. We have no wish for repeated incidents. =/\=

There was something well-worn in her voice, a touch of memory. Of the lessons she’d learned so very young.

She’d spent much of her youth around a Vulcan scientist, after all.
