Saavei: I am at least confident we have the correct pieces... mostly... if not the correct schematics. From that we can improvise, if need be.

She pulled out her PADD, working its screen, while Saavei began to assemble some parts for their special “project”.

Varati: How did the repairs to the Indy actually go? You guys seemed to have suffered far more damage than the rest of us. I’m so glad we all made it out of the subspace corridors in one piece.

Saavei: Commander Ukinix has a very liberal interpretation of cautionary words about the state of a vessel. His faith, or gamble, proved justified in the end. And he has been about assisting with repairs. I do not know him well enough to say, but I believe he derives a certain sense of enjoyment from putting his equipment to the test. A hypothesis I will continue to collect data on. The Vaadwaur were apparently very determined to shoot at us.

D’Cyra had smeared self-made copper-makeup on Commander Ukinix's face, made fingerless gloves out of socks, and helped push him around in a trash can towards Uwe II... Yes, things were never boring with Commander Ukinix, that much was certain.

Varati: Indeed, the Vaadwaur were quite trigger-happy. They fired on the Everest, on you guys too, they even launched torpedoes at us, and then there was the attack on Amity itself... And then that last torpedo that somehow managed to penetrate our shields completely unhindered and explode in the shuttlebay. Luckily, it didn't have too much power. Oh yeah, the Indy looked nasty when she docked again. CPO O'Duffy and his team are going to have their hands full in the coming weeks.

D’Cyra held a few components in her hand, as if they would spontaneously assemble themselves, and continued speaking until she noticed Saavei looking at her. However, her facial features appear quite serious.

Saavei: When I saw the torpedo had detonated inside the Outpost, I was greatly concerned for your well being. It was very satisfying to learn you were relatively unharmed. The Vaadwaur had conspired to deprive us of yours and others' company. I am content they failed.

There had been several people wounded, some more seriously than others. Two crewmen had even died on the Indy. On Amity itself, there had been no reported "losses" so far. In contrast, scrapes, bruises, lacerations, and concussions were considered "acceptable" injuries. But why did Saavei suddenly look so serious?

Varati: Yes, I certainly won't forget that torpedo anytime soon. Your heart almost stops when one of those things comes to a stop right in front of your face... even with a strong force field and thick bulletproof glass in between. And…

But what was Saavei doing? She held out her hand, index and middle fingers together. D’Cyra was puzzled; what was this supposed to be? Some kind of mind meld? Your mind to mine? Somewhat uncertainly, she put down the components and curiously extended her hand to Saavei with the same gesture...

Varati: ::very quiet:: Wait… what?!

Their fingertips touched, and a strange but not unpleasant warmth flowed through her fingers, her hand, and further up her arm…

D’Cyra had heard of such meditative mergings, but had never experienced them herself and didn't believe they really worked. Until now.

With large, shining eyes, she simply gazed at Saavei and didn't dare to move or say anything else...

Then Saavei "disconnected" the connection, withdrew her fingers, and returned to working on the machine parts as if nothing unusual had happened. She kept her body turned in her direction.

Saavei: I heard your own experiences in Underspace were far from 'tame'?

That was correct, but not important now?!

Varati: ::confused:: Wait… what?!

D’Cyra frowned, shook her head slightly in disbelief, and looked at her questioningly.

Varati: ::insecure: Saavei! … Just a moment, please. What was that all about just now? Could you please explain before we continue tinkering?

Saavei: Response

D’Cyra was still completely confused; her fingertips ached as if bitten by an insect, and the unfamiliar warmth still rippled through her hand and arm.

Varati: I'm not sure if I understand this correctly... I mean, I've never done anything like this before. You could have at least warned me, or something?

Saavei: Response

D’Cyra hadn't expected that, especially not from a Vulcan. She'd always thought of herself as an emotional cuddly creature who wore her feelings on her sleeve, but not Saavei, surely?

Varati: If there’s something really on your mind, why not just say it straight out… I won’t bite, will I?!

She tried to laugh cheerfully, but it didn't quite work because if anyone was struggling with confused feelings, it was herself. She swallowed, and the corners of her eyes grew moist before a few small tears formed and trickled down her cheek.

Saavei: Response
