tr’Khev: We have as much time as you need to talk.

Everything had actually been discussed for the moment. That was exactly what Layla had asked her to do. And yes, it had been a good idea to think about such small things in order to then discuss them on a larger scale.

Varati: Everything else is just typical everyday worry at the moment... you get worked up about it for a day and then it's fine again. ::pause:: Or have I just unconsciously revealed something to you that we should talk about?

tr’Khev: Not as of yet. It is only our first session.

He regarded her intently for a few moments before continuing his speech.

tr’Khev: I do have an interest in your emotional considerations.

Sometimes she was just too honest with her thoughts... but ultimately, it was about her own mental well-being. And if something's weighing on your mind, you should talk about it in time, before an unstoppable spiral of negative thoughts forms.

Hmm, she didn't really want to talk about emotions right now. That was a confusing, but private, mess.

Varati: Perhaps we could discuss that at the next meeting? We don’t need a fixed schedule, do we? Or would you prefer that? Thank you so much for your patience so far.

tr’Khev: I do think a fixed schedule would be better for us until we get accustomed to each other.

She hadn't really wanted to come by so often. Now and then, yes... but coming every few weeks now? The idea of therapy sessions made her uneasy.

He wanted to understand her better – did she seem so confused or incomprehensible to others?

Varati: Well, if you say so... ::sighs:: We can agree on that later, in whatever way works best.

tr’Khev: I must say you certainly seem to have an appropriately upbeat outlook on your life and career. Where does that come from?

Looking forward was often more difficult than simply looking back. But it offered greater opportunities to shape the future than just to recapitulate the past.

Varati: I am generally a person who looks positively to the future because things are not set in stone... even if the outlook is unfortunately not always so rosy. ::pauses:: Okay, maybe I'm just a hopelessly naive romantic... ::shrugging head and shoulders:: There are always setbacks and dark times. Fears and worries can really rob you of all joy and positivity sometimes. But standing still and waiting doesn't get you anywhere, literally. It's a fine line, sometimes a very fine one.

D’Cyra thought for another moment…

Varati: Perhaps I rediscovered these ideals in the original ideas of Starfleet, and that's why I chose it.

tr’Khev: What made you choose sciences?

Was this part of getting to know each other or exploring her emotional background?

Varati: As I said, the ideals of "These Old Scientists". ::hearty laughter:: The desire to discover and explore peacefully. "Peaceful" isn't always the case with Orions... Personally, I prefer to try to understand and develop. And if I can help others in the process, all the better. Science is what creates knowledge. And in the end, you usually have a "right or wrong" result. That can be quite nice if you get more "right" than "wrong." ::chuckles again::

tr’Khev: Response

Of course, there would have been plenty of other exciting paths to take. But at that moment, gaining insight was more important to her than success. Well, perhaps just another naive view of life.

Varati: And – if I haven't mentioned it yet – I wouldn't have made a good diplomat. I wear my emotions on my sleeve. No, that talent seems to only ever pass down to the firstborn in my family. As the ‘baby of the family’, I was always stuck with lemons, as they say.

tr’Khev: Response

D’Cyra actually had no problem talking about the past and describing her life story. There was nothing to hide.

Varati: And joining Starfleet was perhaps a good and important step in leaving the past behind. ::thoughtful:: Okay, that sounds strange. Not that I don't like my family, our life, or our culture – quite the opposite. But it unintentionally led to the death of a loved one. And distance and a fresh start were perhaps the sensible steps…?

tr’Khev: Response
