{{Time Index: A Couple Days Before Christmas}}

Somehow, even with all of the hustle and bustle of the season, Lael had managed to schedule and show up for a prenatal check-up. This time, she’d chosen the first available doctor, not wanting to risk it running into Christmas or the arrival of her family and friends. She hadn’t been dead-set on another awkward conversation with Jansen. Though their interactions weren’t as difficult as she’d anticipated, it would also be beneficial if another medical officer had some firsthand knowledge of her and her pregnancy, in case Jansen wasn’t available when the time came.

According to the anatomy scans and measurements, the twins weren’t due until late January or early February (and modern medical technology was pretty accurate in that regard), the combination of her hybrid pregnancy with her medical history meant that it could change at any moment. It was a miracle that she hadn’t been placed on bed rest by now, as she had been for the last couple of weeks of her pregnancy with Kadain. She’d been running a station from her bed.

She entered the main area, looking for the check-in desk. The woman on duty looked up as she approached.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::smiles:: Good afternoon. I have a prenatal check-up with Dr. Wong.

Receptionist: ::nods and offers her a PADD:: Check this over to make sure everything is still the same and include any particular topics you’d like to discuss with Dr. Wong today. I’ll let them know you’re here. If you’d like a beverage while you wait, feel free to get one from the replicator.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::takes the PADD:: Thank you.

The receptionist began entering the commands, Lael presumed to contact Dr. Wong, and Lael moved to one of the open chairs, scanning the PADDwork. So far so good.

Next came the series of questions that she knew accompanied a high-risk pregnancy.

Have you noticed any change in the baby’s movements? She knew they wanted specifics: kick counts, unusually long periods of inactivity, any indications of distress. Thinking a moment, she tapped in a few sentences before moving on to the next question.

Are you having contractions? How often? Are they regular? Are you experiencing any unusual or persistent pelvic pressure, back pain, or cramping? Again, she entered the necessary details. Contractions (Braxton-Hicks) weren’t uncommon in the latter weeks of pregnancy as it got closer to the baby’s due date. Pausing a moment, she made note of pelvic pressure that sometimes persisted even after she lay down for a bit.

With those details noted, she moved to the next set of questions.

There was nothing of note for the preeclampsia screening nor for the pain and physical symptoms section. She was perpetually dealing with back, hip, and pelvic pain these days, but it didn’t seem any worse than the usual pain she experienced off of her pain meds (which she had decided to forgo for the rest of the pregnancy). No signs of blood pressure or blood sugar issues, mental health and stress were more related to work and were manageable. She was taking her supplements and prenatal vitamins regularly with no signs of issues.

Then came the delivery planning and safety section. She rolled her eyes, answering yes or no to each as appropriate. Do you know when to call or come in? Any concerns with your birth plan? Are you comfortable with the current delivery timing or monitoring plan? She’d been through the list so many times by now that it was almost comical. Her doctors before Amity had been insistent.

With the PADDwork complete, she returned it to the receptionist and went back to her chair, waiting to be called back.

{{Mini Time Jump}}

She jolted slightly, realizing that she’d nodded off. A slight red flush crept into her cheeks. She guessed she’d been more tired than she’d thought. The reports had kept her in her office a little later than she’d hoped.

Wong: Response

Turning at the sound of the familiar voice, she smiled.

Rosek-Skyfire: Good to see you again, Doctor.

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: Ready when you are.

Wong: Response
