((Stellar Cartography, Level 17, Science and Research Section))

Wil walked into the relatively new Stellar Cartography in “The Basement” (otherwise known as the Science and Research section) of Amity. The near brand-new facility took up two floors, and was accessible via level 17.  Inside the entrance was a large, long platform that led into the centre of the huge room.  From there, a large holographic display that spanned the curved walls was visible.  There were many consoles complete with holographic displays, allowing multiple science officers to perform in-depth analyses of whatever part of the galaxy was being analysed.

The lighting on the platform was dimmable, to allow the holographic display to become more prominent during operation.  The floor of the platform contained “pop-up” chairs, allowing for a group of up to fifteen people to be seated for a presentation.  The floor of the platform could even be made transparent to give people a true 360 degree view of whatever was being presented if necessary.

The First Officer walked along the long platform towards its end.

Ukinix: Dif tor heh smusma, Lieutenant.

The science officer raised an eyebrow, then turned to see Amity’s sometime professional First Officer make his way into Stellar Cartography.

Solak: ::Vulcan salute:: Good day to you, Commander Ukinix.

While smiling Wil kept his eyes on the large holographic display that was in front of Solak, showing a star chart of some sort.

Ukinix: How’s things?

The Vulcan raised an eyebrow at the First Officer.

Solak: Matters are satisfactory, Commander.  I appreciate your accepting my invitation to this meeting.

Ukinix: Yeah no worries, something to do with the new Betazoid colony, right?  ::click of fingers::

There was a short silence as Solak processed the behaviour of the “officer” that had joined him.

Solak: Affirmative.  “Idrustix,” Commander, the candidate world identified as a colony by the Twentieth House of Betazed.  ::Tapping console:: Tri’lea Polgonz is due to share telemetry data from the planetary survey team.  I will be correlating that information with our long-range sensor data.

Ukinix: ::Cheery tone:: Nice!  I’ve asked Lieutenant Kivik to join us too.

The holographic display at the front of the room zoomed in on the system that the planet was located in, just as the doors to Stellar Cartography opened.  In walked Tri‘lea Polgonz and Lieutenant Kivik onto the platform.

Polgonz/Kivik: Responses

Wil gestured to the empty platform floor.

Ukinix: G’day!  Come in, take a seat.  ::Raising finger, slight smirk::  Wait for it…

He made his way over to one of the consoles, and changed the LCARs display to bring up room controls.  With a few taps the platform lights were dimmed.  A few more taps, and chairs slowly “built” themselves out of the platform’s floor.  A couple more presses, and the platform went transparent, as if the group were standing on air.

Polgonz/Kivik: Responses

Ukinix: Soooo much fun, I love these new toys.

Solak: Commander, may I remind you that everything in this room is designed for cartographic utility and not for leisure.

Wil jumped into one of the comfortable, velvet-like cushioned pop-up seats, and cheekily raised a finger with one hand.

Ukinix:::Cheekily, raising finger:: No, you may not remind me, Lieutenant. ::To Tri’lea:: I believe you have some data for Lieutenant Solak, Tri’Lea?

He pressed the small console’s screen on the chair’s armrest to recline the chair into a more comfortable position.  Once it was to his liking, Wil settled back into his now reclined chair, crossed his ankles, and interlocked his fingers on the top of his head.

oO All I need is popcorn. Oo

Polgonz/Kivik: Responses

Solak: Thank you, Daughter Polgonz.  I will now correlate with Starfleet’s long-range sensor data.

The holographic screens on the consoles flickered and strobed as data began processing.  The huge map of the colony system on the wall in front of them began showing different heat maps, charts, and callouts of various important information.  One of the console screens gave a warm tone to indicate a finding.  Solak made his way to the console, and tapped the screen.

Solak: Curious.

Kivik: Response

Solak: The system’s star is approximately 2.2 billion years old.  Starfleet computers have detected that the star, like many others, are prone to large Coronial Mass Ejections on an infrequent basis – in this case, a probability of once every twenty thousand Earth years.  However, a correlative analysis of Starfleet long range sensor data and the telemetry from the survey team indicates there may have been several very large CME events in the last two-hundred years.  If correct, they would be large enough to cause a major disturbance to the colony planet’s magnetosphere, potentially putting the colony at risk.
