((OOC – Thank you all for bearing with me while I’ve been preoccupied this week. Hoping to do a bit of quick simming to get caught up and move my scenes forward. – Also, just a reminder that this backsimmed scene takes place prior to the Mission Act 1.))
((Hopper’s Office, Level 12, Science & Research Center / SRC – Amity Outpost))
While Robin was definitely happy to see Sam – Nate’s little sister and a qualified Planetary Scientist in her own right – joining the civilian branch of Amity’s Science division, she had been less than thrilled about the fact Samantha had kept her six week journey to the Delta Quadrant Outpost a secret from her mother. Robin already felt as though she’d wound up on Jennifer Richards’ naughty list (through no fault of her own!) and her desk had taken the brunt of her surprise at the revelation… in the form of cola, jettisoned from her mouth and nose.
As she worked at wiping up the mess, the door slid open, revealing the increasingly familiar spotted face of Ensi– No. Lieutenant JG – Torvi Ylvor, whom Robin had summoned.
Ylvor: Hello, am I interrupting anything?
Hopper: Ahh, Torvi – welcome! ::Tossing the cola-soaked rag back into the replicator:: Recycle.
As the rag shimmered out of existence, Robin gestured between her two office guests.
Hopper: Samantha Richards, allow me to introduce Lieutenant JG Torvi Ylvor. She’s here to get the ball rolling on your security clearances. Normally, that’s not such a priority for civilian arrivals, however – with the nature of everything going on…
An exchange of pleasant handshakes hopefully distracted from the lingering aroma of nasally-projected soda. Robin re-took her seat, noting that her desk surface was now a little sticky. She was going to have to go over it again with a surface sterilizer.
Ylvor: Pleasure to meet you. ::beat:: It is only a precaution of course, nothing to be concerned about.
Hopper: Exactly. Plus, you’ll both be joining me aboard the USS Independence-B for a tour of local space with some of the visiting Talaxian delegation. ::Big grin:: Surprise!
She relished in the obvious shock on the other womens’ faces.
Ylvor: Oh! That is a surprise, I imagined we'd be sticking around Amity?
S. Richards: Wow! Robin, this is great!
Hopper: ::Smirking:: And people say science is boring. Hope you’re both ready to jump into the deep end!
Torvi and Sam’s gazes met.
Ylvor: That should be an exciting first outing for you from Amity, I must ask too, your surname.. any relation to ::Torvi looked to Robin:: the Chief of Operations here?
Robin smiled, her eyes darting up and to the side in a playful dodge of the question.
S. Richards: ::smiling:: Yes. Nathan is my brother. But please don't let his reputation precede mine ::giving a small laugh:: After meeting Robin on earth, I didn't feel right leaving her to keep Nathan out of trouble all on her own.
Hopper: Oh, it’s appreciated.
Ylvor: I am sure you will keep him in line for us then! He seems to need it.. ::Torvi laughed::
Robin quirked an eyebrow at that. Had Nate said something revealing during the brief time he and the Junior Lieutenant had been off on their own? Maybe Security just had a ‘file’ on him and his predilection for reckless behaviour.
S. Richards: Did something happen I should know about? ::Small Pause:: Nope ::shaking her head and her hands:: Never mind. I don't want to know.
Hopper: ::Shrug:: I figure it’s just a matter of time before the whole Richards clan moves out here so we can all keep each other in check… But, first things first!
She gestured to Torvi, letting her do her security thing.
Ylvor: ::tapping on her PADD:: I do just have a new Security protocol enquiry that Starfleet Command has implemented. I need to ask you, when did you last transport? We haven't gotten a recent Transporter pattern on the database from a Starfleet vessel.
S. Richards: ::Trying not to feel embarrassed:: Does a star liner count? ::Giving a small smile::
Hopper: Starliner transporters are built for volume, not long-term buffer fidelity. ::A look to Torvi:: I wasn’t aware of the new protocol. Does this have anything to do with the lift on the synth ban?
Robin raised a hand and shook her head. Whatever the reason, it didn’t really matter. She was sure Starfleet Command had their reasons.
Hopper: Never mind, I’ll look into it when I have a minute to spare. Of course, Sam is a civilian, so she won’t have been aboard many Starfleet vessels… ::To Sam:: I assume?
Ylvor: Response
S. Richards: Aha.. then no. I have not been on a Starfleet ship. And I have not been in a Transporter.
Robin nodded.
Hopper: Well, it won’t be our top priority – but we’ll see if that’s something we can knock off the list during our little tour aboard the Indy, hmm?
Ylvor: Response
S. Richards: Sorry, I hope it’s not too much to ask for some guidance from you both on this adventure on the Indy with the Talaxians. This is all super new to me.
At that, Robin grinned.
Hopper: Not a problem! Most of the Talaxian delegates will be cozy down in the mess hall, I think. One or two may join us on the bridge. I’ll do all the heavy lifting on that front – but I can’t handle visiting politicians and watch the sensors all at the same time. Starfleet training or not, I think you can operate our sensor array, Sam – and Torvi, I’d like you at Tactical.
Ylvor/S. Richards: Response
Robin steepled her hands in front of her, tapping her two index fingers together before interlacing her fingers and lowering her hands down onto the (still slightly sticky) desk top.
Hopper: We’re not anticipating any trouble – but, I’d rather be safe that sorry, since we’ll be carrying a boatload of government representatives. Besides, the benamite fields can be unpredictable at times. I know I’ll feel safer with someone experienced sitting in that seat. ::Wink:: Plus it’s a chance for you both to get some low-stakes field experience, hmm?
Ylvor/S. Richards: Response
Hopper: It won’t be ‘til tomorrow anyhow, so ::to Sam:: you’ll have some time to get settled in and do a bit of reading on the local fauna. ::To Torvi:: That goes for you too, Lieutenant. The Stellae aren’t aggressive, but they are powerful creatures. I don’t intend to break the Indy the first time I get to take her out for a spin.
That would be a tragedy. One she wouldn’t live down quickly. Especially if it happened in front of the Talaxians.
Ylvor/S. Richards: Response
Hopper: Perf. In that case, why don’t you two wrap up the security clearances in one of our spare offices? I’m sure you don’t need me breathing down your necks…
She lifted her hands from the desk with an audible thhhhwapp.
Hopper: And I have some cleaning up to do.
