Aitas raised her glass, a gesture echoed by her family. They certainly weren’t going to run out of things to toast, but that was far better than the alternative.
Aitas: To good friends and good engineering, then.
The latter quite literally kept the station together. Something perhaps a bit too much in evidence, as of late.
Saavei: Should the engineering prove defiant, despite my efforts, I take solace in the machine being aesthetically pleasing.
Varati: ::to Saavei:: Don't be falsely modest, my dear friend. Yes, all that metal and chrome certainly looks impressive. The main thing is that all the hoses and seals hold up. ::to all:: But I have faith in our work: after all, we're certified Starfleet officers, or rather, engineers. Well, I'm only half an engineer, but still! ::starts to giggle::
Saavei: Lest I forget to state it in the midst of acknowledging it as we have been, I believe it is customary to 'officially' wish you a happy birthday, Aurelio.
Varati: Ah yes, but the birthday is still to come, right? ::looks slightly confused:: Sorry, I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention. ::to Aurelio:: And then there will definitely be a party with all your friends? Like I said, I have a great idea for a gift, and I hope Saavei will help me with it again.
Aurelio: Uhh…we might do a little something? And Grandfather was going to take me to Idrustix too.
Aitas: He’s not used to it being quite as big of an event as some make of it.
Nor was she. And from the vast lists of what desserts one should make for a particular year that Sakon had uncovered, perhaps very few people truly were.
Though small celebrations at least seemed relatively common
Saavei: Perhaps I should prepare the coffee machine, so it is ready when desired?
Varati: Oh, shouldn't we try the mushroom lasagna first? I also have a wonderful Syrah from Earth to go with it. Well, we should have invited Commander Ukinix too... I think we've prepared way too much food... we can use some of it to make provisions for the next mission.
Aurelio blinked, slightly confused at the idea of such provisions, but he restrained himself from speaking any such thoughts aloud.
Aitas: The lasagna first, then. ::to Saavei:: I’d hate to lose your company just yet, though I remain curious about the coffee.
Saavei: A 'taste of home', as it were. Though after the last several years away from Vulcan, Starfleet has become a home of its own.
Varati: Hear ye, hear ye! But not just Starfleet as a whole, but Amity in particular! But I'm sure the coffee will taste great! And for afterwards... I still have a few bottles of Orion ale and some Mandisa too...
Aitas: None of us will be going away hungry or thirsty, I am sure.
Aurelio: I really appreciate all the food! Can I try everything?
Aurelio already had a guess at the answer to that. The abundance was starting to overwhelm him, just a little.
Varati: I can cut up a small piece of lasagna for everyone. We can also have coffee instead of wine with it, whichever you prefer. We also have juice for Aurelio; we could even juice some fresh fruits like oranges from Uwe II if you like?
Aurelio: Juice is fine!
He wasn’t sure what an orange was, presumably something with that color, though plenty of things got strange and uncoordinated names.
Aitas: I’ll have a little of the wine and the coffee. I’m told there are plans to make various wines on Idrustix, though I suspect it will be some time until any of it is available.
Saavei: Response
Varati: It's a shame Idrustix is so far away... otherwise, we could have just flown over to the beach for an afternoon stroll. I do miss that sort of thing. But on the other hand, we have a huge number of advantages here compared to living on a ship.::to Aitas:: Have you heard from Jakarn? We still need to discuss this “one” thing; the notary contacted me to say that the matter is now settled.
Aitas: I’ll inquire about it next time I see him, but I’m sure he hasn’t forgotten. And the lasagna is lovely.
Barring some very unusual circumstances, Jakarn quite literally couldn’t have forgotten. But he was far away from his usual agents, and had no shortage of other concerns.
Aurelio, meanwhile, had tried a bit of everything on his plate but found that he had no more room left.
Aurelio: We should do this again.
Sakon: Yes, quite. But in the meantime we can enjoy our drinks.
A task to which he was quite content to apply himself.
