Orrey: ::sitting forward:: For instance what is your favorite meal from Orion?
After the first sip of the chilled lemonade, the conversation flowed smoothly... The idea of a cooking evening together had been floating around in her mind for some time. Her favourite food? She had discovered things elsewhere that she actually preferred to the sometimes excessively spiced dishes at home.
Varati: So, wing-slugs are not my favourite dish. ::smiles:: You can prepare many delicious things in a fire pot. I think it's similar to a Dutch oven. Demma is very tasty. Yes, I know, the dish is said to have aphrodisiac or fertility-enhancing properties. But only if it's prepared with the right spices, so to say. Unfortunately, trading many of our items is illegal in the Federation. Otherwise, it's basically just a tasty vegetable casserole.
D’Cyra knew all too well how easily these "prohibitions" could be circumvented... and under the guise of a "culinary ambassador," one could even send these things officially - then one wouldn't have to push one's luck (Cluros; with private diplomatic mail).
Varati: Personally, I preferred the pasta dishes from Earth. They can be combined with vegetables or meat in any way you like.
Orrey: And what about the flavor or ingredients draw you to that?
The Orion spices in particular were famous and infamous: some were very hot, but often had a more or less strong aphrodisiac effect. As a doctor with so much experience, Orrey would certainly be aware of this. But he asked so charmingly and with such interest that she was happy to give him the information.
Varati: Well, a sip of Mandisa is always welcome. Orion beer, ale, and rum aren't for everyone, either. And if you overdo it with Xiqai, well, the result is watery eyes and burning desires, included. ::giggles:: But as I said, many of the Orion spices are banned in the federation because of their effects and are officially unavailable. ::pause::
And what about you, Doctor? What do you like to eat or cook most?
Orrey: Response
Meanwhile, she enjoyed another sip of lemonade, letting the small carbonation bubbles burst with a tingling sensation on her tongue.
Varati: That sounds like a culinary exclusivity, doesn't it? What drinks would you recommend to go with it? I mean, the whole galaxy can't always drink Chateau Picard, can it? The '86 vintage is supposed to be magnificent, but so is the price.
Orrey: Response
In her mind, she was already imagining a large evening party with all sorts of luxurious knick-knacks, fine food and drinks... perhaps one could...?
Varati: Then we should compile a list of interesting and delicious dishes? Perhaps we can convince the chefs at Lighthouse Restaurant to offer a Starfleet menu. ::soft chuckle:: Just an idea…
D’Cyra looked at him questioningly before taking another scrutinizing look from the balcony into his apartment.
Varati: I saw that beautiful violin in the display case earlier... do you play yourself? Or is it just a decorative piece?
She waited anxiously for the doctor’s reply, unsure whether it might involve a story that was too personal.
Orrey: Response
That was an exciting story that she hadn't expected.
Varati: I had no idea... I hope that wasn't too indiscreet? I never really learned to play an instrument - I guess my mother passed that talent on to my sister.
She smiled and shrugged before taking another sip of the cold lemonade and letting her gaze wander around the area.
