((Main Engineering))
Then there was what felt like an echo, a brief twinge of pain, and a strange feeling of cold, as if some great wind had blown just past her. Three dead animals lay before them, presumably the voles, but the spikes upon their backs were raised and twisted, and their claws set each into the neck of another.
Aitas: I don’t think the storm is doing them any favors. I felt—
She shook her head. A hint of the death of the animals, perhaps. It had been too brief to be sure.
And if there was anything stranger going on, then best to be done with the shutdowns and back to safer surroundings.
Iko: You ‘right?
That earned a shrug, as Aitas adjusted her grip on the creature’s body.
Aitas: It is not the first time I have felt an animal die.
It had felt a bit strange, even for that, but then there was a great deal of variance amid such minds.
Orrey: In any case we can briefly pause at medical I can still do my exam in Robin’s apartment. I think she has a dining table that would work as a morgue slab.
It sounded as if they might end up owing their first officer a new table. But in the meantime, they had further portions of the station to shut down.
((Beijing District - Habitat Ring - En Route to Robin Hopper’s apartment))
Their visit to medical was rather brief, but it had at least resulted in Aitas no longer needing to carry one awkwardly sized creature in what remained of her jacket. Her pale green sundress now showcased a matching green bruise on one shoulder from where the jacket-covered spines had swung against it.
There was at least a general lack of the creatures, or their corpses, barring the sample they’d brought with them. Either many hadn’t made it to the area or they’d been removed.
Iko: You’ve got Fureri looking up in Peace park, don’t you?
Aitas: Yes. I wanted to see if there were indications that other animals were suffering side-effects from the storm. Aurelio visited the Koala Habitat Boardwalk recently. ::a slight tilt of her head:: I have not seen any unusual reactions from the animals there thus far.
Orrey: A real help having the both of you around.
Perhaps she’d have to make a point to introduce Orrey to Taelon.
Iko: You’re kidding me…
Orrey: What? ::looking over:: Oh by the Elements.
A glance over revealed an unfamiliar Betazoid civilian, who certainly shouldn’t have been on the station at all.
Iko: What are you doing here?
The Betazoid, who presumably had some history with Security, given Iko’s reaction, gave them an over-exaggerated smile.
Bobded: Ah officers! How good of you to drop by! I was just on my way to help a certain Commander Rocky-Skyfire with my expertise.
An expertise that apparently consisted of defying evacuation orders and a fondness for foolish risks, though of course one couldn’t completely rule out the possibility that his remaining on the station was instead for the purposes of sabotage or espionage. Still a foolish risk, in any case.
Iko: I’d shove you in the brig if it wasn’t powering down. And I don’t trust your repair work. But we’re on our way to Robin’s and I’ll at least agree that it’s probably just easier if we let you camp it out with us.
Aitas: I believe civil proceedings should be adequate to the situation, presuming he causes no further trouble.
Stations didn’t tend to appreciate people who refused to follow basic safety procedures. Such was a good way to lose mercantile licenses, access to shop or docking space, additional replicator credits, and quite possibly access to Amity at all.
Orrey: Wasn’t Commander Ukinix coming to talk to you?
Bobded: He did. And it is by his good graces that I’m here to help however I can. You can call him to confirm, if you wish.
Iko: Y’know what’s up with these things?
Orrey: Or who could have imported them onto the station?
The Betazoid held up his hands.
Bobded: I have nothing to do with this! I’m not in the pet trade!
Aitas simply continued forward. With the storm incoming she had no cause to delay.
Orrey: Are you feeling well? Pulse is up so is your core temperature.
Bobded: If you are implying that I’m lying, you are sorely mistaken! In case you haven’t noticed, I’m Betazoid. We are known for our honesty.
Orrey: ::glancing at Iko:: Or it could indicate deception. ::shrugging casually::
Bobded: Well, you are so very direct, aren’t you, dear doctor? I can assure you that I am not the deceptive sort!
Aitas turned her head at that, showcasing her black eyes. She had a great deal of experience with Betazoids, after all, though her tone was purely Vulcan.
Aitas: You have merely offered up a crude generalization about why Betazoids should be presumed to be honest.
Which was about as accurate a statement as any that said Vulcans did not lie. To say, not at all.
Iko: Response
Orrey: I have a specimen to look at and you have some interrogations so I think we need to keep moving if Fureri is done at the park? I don’t want to see what happens to you if he gets caught in the storm..
Aitas: It is far more durable than I am, but best to be cautious.
It was also a gift, and older than the Federation. Which made it still a relatively new bot, all things considered.
Bobded: Well your big bossman himself has at the very least implied that the temporary ops is a safe place to go. And lucky for you, I’m headed that way too!
Iko: Response
Bobded: How about this? We all head there together! Myself and the rest of you! What do you say?
Aitas continued moving forward, which she considered a sufficient answer.
Orrey/Iko: Response
Bobded: You know? As much fun as it may be to stay here, I think an even better idea would be to leave.
Aitas briefly turned back toward him.
Aitas: Perhaps you should focus more on moving and less on speaking.
Orrey/Iko: Response
Bobded: Now I may be just a humble and honest used yacht salesman and not a biologist, but I get the sense that they’re watching us a little too closely.
Orrey/Iko: Response.
Once they’d moved on a little further, Aitas simply tapped her combadge. While portions of the station were likely to now be out of its reach, they were very close to Robin’s quarters. She kept her tone, and expression, to that immaculate Vulcan calm.
Aitas: =/\= Commander Rosek-Skyfire, Engineering and Medical have been cleared and shut down. We’re currently on our way to rendezvous with your team and should be there shortly =/\=
Rosek-Skyfire/Iko/Orrey: =/\= Response =/\=
Bobded: Response
Aitas: =/\= Have you heard from the science team? We’ve not received an update from them in some time. =/\=
Rosek-Skyfire/Iko/Orrey: =/\= Response =/\=
Bobded: Response
That was when Fureri trotted up to meet them. The bot promptly moved into position at Aitas’ heels as she moved. It was easy for her to keep up a good pace, and given how close the storm was drawing that seemed the wisest choice.
Aitas: ::to Orrey:: Would you like me to carry anything? It may allow us to move faster.
Iko/Orrey/Bobded: Response
