Aitas: So, what would you say I should know about you?
Nevark: Well I guess that depends if you mean in these four walls ::gesturing to the office:: Or outside them.
Aitas: Let’s start with here.
The counselor didn’t owe Aitas anything about her personal life, after all.
Nevark: Well inside them, I take a person centred holistic approach to counselling, everyone is different and everyone lives through an experience from a different perspective so there is no guarantee the same advice will work for two different people. I also make it a habit to focus on the words and tone spoken to me and not my telepathic or empathic abilities as I find this helps build trust. Oh and I don’t read previous files unless a specific need arises for it, especially not before a first session. I like to build my own relationships and develop my own understanding of how people speak and not assume based on the notes what to expect.
It was an unusual approach in Aitas’ experience, but then stations tended to get a broader range of such than smaller installations.
She shifted one hand slightly, considering.
Aitas: Ah. I think I see what happened.
Nevark: Were you expecting something else?
Aitas frowned; the expression there for a second and then gone. Whatever had happened was clearly not Nevark’s fault.
Aitas: There should have been a couple of required notes on my file. Mostly clearance related matters, but, ::a wave of her hand:: Given all the system issues I shouldn’t be too shocked they were missing. You have my apologies for the misunderstanding.
It wasn’t as if she had been about to discuss anything too sensitive on the first session.
Nevark: Response
Aitas: Perhaps we should start over? I’ll explain in more detail, this time.
Her posture was still formal, still very Vulcan. Such was as much a part of her as anything else. But she let her expression relax just a little.
Nevark: Response
Aitas: I wasn’t anything more than bruised during the storm, but I had to telepathically push some entity out of a friend who’d nearly died the previous time we saw such a storm. He tends to wind up injured or missing quite a lot.
Starfleet could be dangerous, but Taelon tended to have a particularly bad run of it.
