Wong: Besides, we don’t even know that the further we enter, how easy would it be to get back out? This is why we also must also guard against getting lost. We may be able to transport out of here now. But it may get harder in the future.

Richards: Not much of a thread, but the next best thing, I think. I’ll make markings in the walls as we go.

Ikaia watched as Richards pulled out a spanner and began to mark the walls. Hopefully, this would work well as their thread.

Varati: Okay, let's try that. We can do a test first before we just jump in…

Wong: Agreed. Let’s only go a short ways in just to see if our “thread” works. If it does. Then we can go further.

Ylvor: Response

Richards led the way as he made delta markings into the walls. Everything seemed to be going well as soon as they rounded the corner into darkness. Klingon eyesight worked well in low light levels. But absolute darkness was impossible. Even Ikaia still needed some light to see. He fiddled with his visor. He may not have been able to see anything in the cave. But he could still see who he was with by virtue of the visor.

Richards: ::Stumbling backwards, clutching his now bleeding nose:: Son of a… This wall wasn’t here before, was it? Did the caves shift?

Finally, Varati turned on her flashlight. It illuminated the cave under its glow. At least now, Ikaia could confirm the cave had shifted. He moved towards Richards to check on him.

Varati: Wait… what!? We didn't hear or see anything... This isn't right! Real walls could never move so quickly and silently. I didn't even feel a breeze on my skin.

Wong: It does point to three theories - the technology of the shifting caves is so advanced that we would be unfamiliar with it, the technology is old and something we’re familiar with but used in an unconventional way or the third and by far the most disturbing option - the cave is a living entity and we’re in the belly of the beast. Let’s hope it’s not that.

Ikaia used his tricorder to take a scan of Richards. He’d rather use technology he knew when it came to his patients than something that he found that simply would  not let him go.

Wong: How’s your nose?

Ylvor: Response

Richards: Well…Guess I should have seen that coming…

Varati: Oh no! ::shines on the spot where Nathan is looking:: Half of the marker is gone! At Nallim, the Unconquerable, our tricorders aren't working - of course, signals are dampened and disrupted. Let's just take one step forwards and two steps back: if this is a hall of mirrors, then the other half of the markings should reappear at some point - otherwise…

That was enough to prompt Ikaia to look back down at his tricorder.

Offline.

The only thing that seemed to be working was his cuffcorder. Something he was still experimenting with and getting to know.

Wong: My cuffcorder seems to be still working. If I had to take a guess, because it was developed here, it’s probably the reason why it isn’t impacted. However, my usual tricorder is entirely out.

Ylvor: Response

Varati: Maybe we should have taken the thread thing more literally…

Ikaia tilted his head curiously as Varati passed her flashlight to Ylvor. She started taking off her boots. Then her socks.

Varati: ::fumbling around:: Don't worry, they're fresh and I showered too... we need a thread, here comes one! Let's see if 3,600-year-old tactics still work today.

Ikaia caught on quickly. Using the thread from the socks, they’d have their ball of thread. Ikaia nodded as he sat down to pull off his boots.

Wong: I’m pretty sure I get you. A very literal interpretation of Greek mythology!

Richards/Ylvor: Response

Varati: Please help me or get your own socks out. ::giggles:: Then let's "spin" a few threads and see what kind of web we get.

Ikaia pulled off his socks. They were his lucky alpaca wool socks. It would be a while before he’d get another pair of the real deal again. But it was a matter of survival and this was needed.

Wong: These were some of my luckiest socks. Let’s hope they’re still lucky once we pull them apart.

And with that, he also started to pull apart the wool and began to wind up a ball of wool for Varati to use.

Richards/Ylvor: Response

Varati: Ikaia, what can you actually see with your visor? Are you connected to Interlink and other systems on the station? Are there any secret signals or some function to deactivate the caves?

Once again, another curious head tilt.

Wong: That’s possibly a yes and a no. I’m still learning about how it works. I think I’ve only got basic functionality figured out so far. I do know that I’m also connected to Interlink through this. Although, I don’t exactly know how or what I can do with it yet.

Richards/Ylvor: Response

With that, Ikaia finished winding his ball of alpaca yarn and passed it over to Varati. He then slid his boots back on.

Wong: I hope this helps you out. There should be plenty here. Klingons aren’t known to have tiny feet.

Richards/Ylvor/Varati: Response

Just as Ikaia was about to get up, his visor tracked onto something on the cave floor. He shuffled over to what it had picked up. It was drops of a blue liquid….

Wong: That’s not good….

Richards/Ylvor/Varati: Response

Ikaia finally looked up at everyone.

Wong: I think someone might be hurt down here or worse. Because I just found blood. Andorian blood.

Which meant that time was of the essence.

Richards/Ylvor/Varati: Response
