BAROSSA NEBULA – The discovery of a secret Starfleet project and a Klingon plot near a hidden colony has revealed new regional threats, while diplomatic attention turns to Idrustix and an incoming Federation Ambassador.
Starfleet Command has declassified the existence of Project Interlink following a high-stakes mission conducted near a hidden research facility in the Delta Quadrant. The facility, codenamed “Whispering Wall”, was located on the remote planet, Imza-4521-L, several days' travel from Amity Outpost at warp speeds. When the colony abruptly ceased communications, a rapid response investigation was launched under the command of Amity's CO, Commander Wil Ukinix.
Initial scans suggested the colony had been abandoned. However, the away team discovered the research crew alive and in hiding within an elaborate holographically-generated cave system. The researchers had been conducting advanced work on a networking protocol now confirmed to be part of the Interlink project – a program originally developed under the same directive that produced Fleet Formation Mode prior to Frontier Day.
According to declassified reports, Interlink aimed to link Starfleet vessels into a single command network, allowing coordinated action without full automation. Although not completed before Frontier Day, development was ongoing at Whispering Wall when contact was lost.
“Interlink was supposed to bring the Federation together. Make us stronger. Of course, that is what they said about Fleet Formation,” offers Lieutenant Commander Stros, one of the colony’s chief researchers. "But it's done. There shall be no further research or development on this project. The system will be lost to history as yet another technology that just wasn't meant to be.”
The reason for the colony’s silence soon became clear. A rogue Klingon Bird of Prey, allegedly tipped off via yet-unknown channels, attacked the facility and forcibly seized components of the Interlink system. Several Starfleet researchers were injured in the assault. Intelligence suggests the Klingons, for reasons yet-unknown, intended to retrofit their vessel with Interlink to use against Federation targets in the region – including Amity Outpost itself.
A Starfleet team pursued the Klingon vessel and engaged in a daring multi-pronged strategy to disable it. Officers were transported aboard mid-flight to sabotage key systems, while another team leveraged massive subspace-dwelling lifeforms to eliminate the ship’s warp core. Known to local traders as “subspace serpents,” the creatures have long been dismissed as myth – until now. The Bird of Prey was ultimately destroyed before reaching Federation space. Starfleet and civilian xenobiologists are now collaborating on further study of the creatures involved.
“I always told everyone back home they were real,” insists local trader and scavenger, Mo’kol Dervizm, who claims to have witnessed the aftermath of the incident along a regular trade route. “Now I’ve got hard evidence – a piece of the hull of that Klingon ship, with a massive bite taken out of it by that big worm! This is going on my wall.”
Meanwhile, the region’s diplomatic landscape is undergoing a shift of its own. Ambassador Hyacinth Turnbull has been appointed as the new Federation Ambassador to the Delta Quadrant and is en route to take up residence at the newly constructed Federation Embassy on Idrustix. Turnbull will oversee diplomatic initiatives across the quadrant, marking a new chapter for the Federation’s presence in the region.
As part of the restructuring, Amity Outpost has been redesignated as a Federation Consulate, with Consul Keehani Ukinix assuming leadership. While the transition has sparked some uncertainty, many aboard Amity remain optimistic.
"The establishment of a new embassy is always a great step for the Federation Diplomatic Corps,” comments Lt. Commander Lhandon Nilsen – a Diplomatic Officer who travelled the region as part of Turnbull's entourage. “Amity of course played a pivotal role in laying the groundwork, and now it's time to grow bigger and beyond the Outpost. This embassy signals the FDCs commitment to serving the Delta Quadrant"
As Starfleet continues to weigh the implications of past programs and future challenges, both diplomatic and technological, Amity’s role as a stabilizing force in the Delta Quadrant appears more vital than ever.
