((OOC: This JP takes place at the end of last shore leave))

((Terminal A, Amity Outpost))

Renaie gazed out at the terminal, waiting for their ship to arrive.

Their time at Amity had come to an end, and it was time to head home. Back to the Ronin.

Home… what a strange concept.

In a way, their home was in Starfleet, but more specifically, their home was the Ronin. They were here on Amity as part of Starfleet, but they were only here temporarily, for a few months.

Maybe their home was Starfleet. Maybe that was it.

Footsteps heading toward the Klingon snapped them out of their reverie. They tried to stand at attention when they realised it was Bec who made those footsteps.

Shortrith: ::greeting with a nod.:: Commander. oO I can't just call you Bec, you're a higher ranked officer, and we're both in uniform. Oo

Bec sighed, and shoulders dropped.

Iko: Rennie, you've known me long enough and spent long enough on Amity to know to just call me Bec.

Shortrith: ... true.

Iko: You off?

Shortrith: Yeah, I'm just waiting for whichever QSD ship is gonna take me back to Earth so I can take a shuttle back to the Ronin. oO Hopefully my parents don't try to meet up with me again… Oo

They tried not to let their facial expression show their thoughts. Secretly, they were glad Bec wasn't a Betazoid.

Iko: That'll be… the one that's docking now probably.

Bec looked out the terminal's big windows at the liner that was docking.

Shortrith: Thank you for having me here. oO I'm sorry I made it awkward. Oo

She smiled slightly.

Iko: Uhm… thanks for coming. It was good to see you.

Shortrith: I… I'm sorry if my being here… disrupted your day to day. You were here long before I was.

Iko: Rennie. This is Starfleet. When do things ever go to plan?

Shortrith: I get that, but… ::they let out a long exhale as I was trying to find the right words:: You were still here before me. This is your home. I'm just visiting. I don’t want it to feel like I was intruding.

Iko: You didn't. Not really. ::bobs head side to side:: I mean at the start I was mostly kinda surprised and wasn't sure where we stood but we had a chat about it and…

Shortrith: ::dryly:: Most stressful fifteen minutes of my life.

Bec’s eyes widened slightly and she nodded.

Iko: Yeah lets not do that again.

Shortrith: Agreed.

Renaie paused, glancing back at Bec.

Shortrith: Are we friends? Still, again… ::shrugs::

Bec opened her mouth and paused for a moment, before she said:

Iko: We’re friends again.

They were friends, and then lovers, and then not downright enemies but still not on speaking terms, and then here.

It had been a wild ride with Renaie.

Shortrith: Honestly, I… I thought you hated me for a while.

Bec slowly nodded.

Iko: I thought I did. But I moreso hated… me.

Renaie's face fell, and morphed into a sad expression.

Shortrith: Bec… I'm sorry. oO I'm sorry I yelled at you. I'm sorry I couldn't have been better. Oo

Iko: Stop apologising Rennie!

It was something Bec had told the other Klingon countless times before, and probably something she would continue to have to do.

Shortrith: Why? It genuinely was my fault.

Iko: It is not your fault your parents don't see you for you, like it is not my fault mine don't see me for me.

Renaie simply bowed their head in acknowledgement.

By this time Bec could see the last of the liner’s current passengers disembark, and they were calling up everyone for the trip back.

Iko: Now come on, you have a QSD to catch, and a ship out there waiting for you.

Shortrith: As much as I want to go home, part of me wants to stay here for a few more minutes with my friend.

Bec put her arm around Renaie’s shoulder.

Renaie pulled Bec into a hug.

Iko: It's a small world. We’ll run into each other again soon enough.

Shortrith: True… come visit the Ronin at some point, eh?

She gave Renaie a pat on the back.

Iko: I just might.

Shortrith: I'll see you in subspace, my friend.

They gently let go of the hug, and reached out for their luggage.

Shortrith: I've got a ship to catch.

Bec pursed her lips slightly and nodded.

Iko: That you do.

The ship pulled out of dock, and slid into warp to head back to the Alpha Quadrant.
