((Holodeck B, SRC Level 11, Amity Outpost))

Was it left, right, left or right, left, right? Ikaia had run this Borg cube simulation several times over and he found himself circling back to the same intersection. Of course, the advantage here was that it was just a simulation and also, therefore not allergic to it. But if the rumors were true and there was still an active Borg enclave in the quadrant, he had to be ready for that possibility. The other one that chilled him a bit more was the one that cut the most personally. That was, of course, the fact that he was still carrying Borg DNA and they may want it back. That was if they knew about it. Between everything else, he started running Borg readiness drills within the silent and safe sanctuary of the holodeck.

Ikaia paused a moment. He sat down in the middle of the intersection to think. It wasn’t as if these NPC Borg were going to harm him. They were just going to saunter past him without much thought. He was going to start planning out his next strategy when he heard some commotion outside the holodeck.

Varati: ::to Computer:: Knock! Knock! Who’s there?

Computer: Doctor…

Varati: Doctor?

Computer: Doctor W(h)ong.

oOVarati…..?Oo

Great. He must have gone over his time? He looked down at his PADD in his hands. According to his PADD, he still had a few more minutes. He looked up at where he estimated the arch would be. He really didn’t want her to see him running drills! He flicked his fingers across the PADD. There was one fresh new program he was building he was planning to share with those in his circle. But he might as well deploy it now as his cover.

Varati: Doctor Wong?

Ikaia flicked his fingers again and the scene shifted from the interior of a Borg cube to the bustling market place in Giza roughly sometime during the middle kingdom. Ikaia dusted himself off and stood up. He still wasn’t finished building this holoprogram. It still had a lot of work left on it. But it was a solid start.

Varati: Computer, open the door! Authorization code Psi-Alpha-Omega-22!

Ikaia raised an eyebrow. He was really going to have to have a word with her about her liberal use of authorization codes. Those were supposed to be used for emergencies. Not so willy-nilly!

Varati: Ikaia? … ::pause: … Ikaia?

He saw her saunter her way in through the open arch looking for him. But she didn’t seem to see him just yet. He supposed that the crowd was a bit too dense if she couldn’t see him so well. He waved to her.

Wong: Over here!

Varati: Ah, there you are!

Varati: Hey you! Well, my dear? You seem to have lost track of time and made yourself comfortable here?

Wong: Comfortable? Hardly. I was simply just busy with one of my programs!

Varati: Well, if that's the case... then we can use the time together!? I've always wanted to do some yoga and try a few new exercises.

Wong: Perhaps. But maybe…. Maybe we might want to have a quick chat before we get into some yoga?

After all, he did need to discuss her behaviour on Uwe II. He motioned for her to follow him.

Wong: This way….

 Varati: Response

He started walking towards one of the taverns he had programmed in.

Wong: It’s not a far walk. Just enough to get a little light exercise in.

Varati: Response

And in truth, it wasn’t a far walk at all. A quick turn of the corner and they were already at the tavern. Ikaia hadn’t named it yet. He walked inside and took a seat at one of the tables. He patted one of the chairs next to him for her to take a seat

Wong: Come sit. I know this isn’t yoga. But this is important.

Varati: Response

Ikaia folded his fingers on the table. Might as well start this conversation.

Wong: It’s about Uwe II. How do you think that went?

Varati: Response

Wong: Well, what about your introduction to Elarrapal? How do you think that went?

Varati: Response

Ikaia nodded. Not in agreement but acknowledgement.

Wong: It’s something I’ve been wanting to discuss. Your time as a junior officer is limited. And there are certain behaviours and conduct that you might be able to, for the lack of better words, “get away with” as a junior that isn’t going to fly as a full lieutenant and beyond. I think what you did was brash and it could have ended badly not just for you but for the whole team.

Ikaia truthfully didn’t know how many of these conversations he had left. Eventually, Varati would get promoted. And perhaps, even rank up past him as so many others have done before her. So any opportunity he had to pass on some knowledge, he was going to take it while he still could.

Varati: Response
