Wong: Well, have you dropped by Peace Park yet? I highly recommend it!

Iko: There’s a barbeque. And koalas. It’s like that wetlands that was near your uni but better.

Shortrith: I have! Commander Ukinix invited me over there for a sausage sizzle.

Of course, Ikaia had a very different view on koalas. It was common for patients to speak of them after a near-death experience. For being a cute and fluffy little animal, being an omen of death (or ascension) felt like one of the more stranger cosmic jokes of the universe. He was pretty sure the entire concept was envisioned by a drunken Q. That said, he didn’t find himself hanging out in the Blue Gums area for very long. He found their presence, though adorable, a bit unsettling.

Wong: Ah yeah. I’m not usually in that biome! I’m usually hanging out in the other ones, though.

Iko: What’s your favourite spot in peace park?

Wong: For me, it’s the beach biome. The lake has a wave generator on that side that produces anything from tiny little ankle breakers to some five footers. I haven’t seen anything bigger than that, not to say it isn’t possible.

Iko: Of course, of course. It’s the Hawaiian in you.

Wong: I also vouch for the Mackinac biome for fishing as well if you’re into that. It’s also a solid biome pick. Same with the desert biome. It has one of the best artificial sunrises and a nice place for sand surfing if you wanted to try your hand at it.

Iko: and Hawaii and Australia are better than Qo’noS anyway. ::eying Shortrith:: right?

Ikaia raised an eyebrow. Why did Iko bring that up?

Wong: Ah well, I probably shouldn’t judge.

Inwardly, he was hoping everyone would just drop the subject.

Shortrith: They've all got their pros and cons. While Qo'noS is nice, nothing really beats our homeworld.

Wong: Earth is the only planet I’ve ever called home.

Shortrith: Have either of you ever been? To Qo'noS?

Ikaia was thankful he wasn’t drinking his coffee at that moment. Yeah no. He didn’t want to get into that!

Iko: Yeah. Once. Did the usual tourist stuff in the city. ::pointing to Wong, furrowing brow:: But you went off with Keehani and did something else didn’t you?

Why did she keep on insisting on bringing it up and more importantly, the nature of his trip there? Why wasn’t she dropping it?

Wong: Uh yeah. I did. But that’s not important, right?

Shortrith: I think the last time I went was the year before I graduated the academy.

Wong: ….. ::Silently sips coffee::

Tis better to remain silent and to be thoughtful than to open your mouth and remove all doubt…. right?

Iko: I always feel like such an outsider. I know it’s stupid, but…

Shortrith: Your feelings aren't stupid, your feelings have reason.

He observed the two in his silence. He was getting the feeling this wasn’t entirely about a Qo’nos trip. There was something between those two that had the background radiation of awkwardness seeping through it. Although, no one was admitting it.

Wong: She’s right. It’s valid.

Iko: I wonder if that would ever change.

Shortrith: Hopefully it would.

Wong: Perhaps it is wisest that we leave such stuff in the past for a moment?

And drop the Qo’nos subject entirely? That’s what he hoped for. He was already feeling like the awkward third wheel here.

Iko: Maybe we should just stick to this trio of klingons in Starfleet, ay?

Shortrith: Yeah. It's nice not being the only klingon on a posting, especially the only medical Klingon.

Wong: Klingons in our line of work is indeed a rarity. I didn’t see any in medical during my time at the Academy. But I did encounter a lot of Vulcans.

Shortrith: If it's not too much of a personal question, Bec, is it because of what your mum did that made you feel like an outsider?

Wong: Uhhh…..

This was getting very awkward. He was going to have to make an exit soon.

Iko: Response

Shortrith: Yeah… I remember the rantings about her as I started in the Academy.

Wong: Ah well…. A lot of things can happen at the Academy, right?

Iko: Response

Shortrith: Um. Well.

Ikaia pushed his chair out and stood up. This was clearly a conversation between Iko and Shortrith. He was getting in the way and too much of an intrusive force.

Wong: I…. should probably be getting back to work. If there’s one thing about working in medicine, there is no shortage of work as long as there is life around.

Iko: Response

Shortrith: Response.

Ikaia politely nodded.

Wong: Thanks for inviting me, however. I do appreciate our little chat. Do feel free to reach out at any time.

Iko/Shortrith: Response.

With a polite wave, he left and walked out of the Brew Continuum. The conversation was far too awkward for him. Between talking about Qo’nos and the tension between Iko and Shortrith, it was just too much for him. And so he felt it was as good of time as any to take his leave.
