((Trenvonn Ship O’Ran))

For the second time in just under an hour, Naarax had laid her eyes on another species.

Two new ones, in fact, as they walked through the airlock door, along the corridor towards Naarax.

One was tall, with light coloured hair, forehead ridges, and no feathers. She identified that one as a warrior species, although she couldn’t quite remember the name.

The other, though, also with no feathers, seemed to be a Betazoid. Her Black irises were the giveaway. She remembered reading, after the Trenvonn’s encounter with the Federation at Skraal (which the Federation colonised and named “Idrustix”, a much more aesthetically pleasing name she thought), a thesis written by a Scientist I.

They had concluded that Betazoids had reached the ascension that the Trenvonn sought. They had psionic abilities, the article had posited many ways that the Trenvonn could, with biological engineering, achieve the same abilities. It even included telemetry data from the drones that had scanned them while attempting to remove the bacteria from the planet.

Naarax had considered the study’s findings underwhelming. Psionic abilities would, even if it could be achieved, be only a first step towards ascension in her opinion. Betazoids were still of the physical plane, not a higher, all knowing, all controlling life form that filled an infinite dimension, as described by the famous Grand Expert Brrxua before his death.

Nevertheless, she was curious about the Betazoid.

Naarax: Welcome to the O’Ran. I have received word from the High Council to receive you.

Nevark: Hello, I am Lieutenant Layla Nevark of Amity Outpost. We are here for the Starfleet officer you are treating to assist further.

Wong: Response

Naarax: Yes.

She signalled for a Fellow II security scientist to scan them for any weapons. He waved a device up and down in front of their bodies, before signalling to Naarax that there was no weapons of any sort on them.

She turned back to the pair, clicking her beak once.

Nevark: We are thankful that the High Council have allowed us permission to attend and assist with the treatment. Could you possibly lead the way?

Naarax: You will follow my instructions. Do not deviate. ::Gesturing:: Come.

She turned, and let the Starfleet officers follow, wondering if the Betazoid was sensing her psionically. Maybe that was the hidden weapon... collecting personal telemetry via psionic means.

Wong: Response?

Naarax: You are to treat the officer as quickly and efficiently as possible to stabilise her condition.

She led them towards the nearby...

((Medical Facility, Trenvonn Ship O’Ran))

Yrnans had to improvise with existing Trenvonn medical technology. Using a standard “blood soaker” device he was able to slow the concentration rise of palladium in the Starfleet officer.

Yrnans: I have determined that several of your internal organs have suffered considerable damage. I have telemetry, but no answers on how best to treat them. What is your-- how do you feel?

The woman raised the dark part above her eye, in a gesture that Yrnans didn’t quite understand.

Seleya: Like my blood is molten steel.

Maybe it signalled surprise or annoyance. He was learning more in less than one hour with the non-Trenvonn than he had in weeks for this so-called “paired singularity” prototype, which he felt was nothing more than an experiment for the purposes of experiment.

Yrnans, as a medical Scientist II, didn’t understand the Trenvonn obsession with being insular to other species. The ascension was something he believed that his kind could achieve one day, without question. But why not explore? Reach out to others? Maybe they had data that would provide the missing piece in the quest to become a higher lifeform.

Their isolationist policy made no sense to him. But the government structure was such that unless someone had accompanying data, there was no point in submitting theoretical proposals lest it might result in punishment, and your whole scientific career suddenly becomes spent on developing better food distribution techniques, or more efficient waste disposal recycling methods.

And given the Trenvonn were isolationists, only the High Council maintained data about other civilisations and species. Even then, he understood those data sets to be limited.

The doors to the medical facility slid open, which made Yrnans turn to see Naarax leading in two more Starfleet officers. Again, both were different species.

That took the total tally of species encountered other than Trenvonn in his life from zero to... three.

He would never forget this rotation.

Naarax: Lieutenant Junior Grade Seleya of Khanda. It seems the High Council have made the rare move of allowing your colleagues into our space.

Yrnan turned to study the officer with ridges on his forehead, and the shorter woman with black eyeballs. She curved the muscles of her mouth upwards, seemingly indicating... friendship?

Naarax: You may treat your colleague as needed, and then return to neutral space as soon as possible, such that we may return to our studies. A decision will be made by the High Council as to whether Seleya of Khanda can return with you.

The tall, light hair coloured Starfleet officer with the ridge forehead raised the small strip of hair above his eye, in a similar manner to Seleya only moments earlier. Who knew that eyes, and their surrounds, could be such important methods of communication amongst some species?

Nevark: We will work to the best of our abilities.

Wong: I’m going to need to have a look at my patient first. I don’t quite know what I’m walking into yet.

Yrnans: I can share my telemetry thus far with you.

With a few presses on his cylinder device, the data on his unconventional patient was uploaded to the medical officer’s own medical instrument.

The security Fellows watched on, weapons stowed, but ready in case they needed to defend themselves and their fellow Trenvonn. Naarax moved to stand beside them and just observe.

Nevark: Hello, I am Layla. Can you tell me anything we need to know straight away?

Seleya: Yes, I need you to find out what’s causing my Palladium levels to spike and get it below 250 ng/ml. Do not use any sort of iron infusion, iron will just make my levels spike more. And make sure they get all the internal bleeding.

Yrnans nodded in agreement, then looked towards his various medical devices, to determine if any would stop Seleya’s bleeding. One in particular would work on Trenvonn with certainty, but on another species? He wasn’t so sure.

Nevark: First orders?

Wong: We need to start filtering her blood to get the Palladium levels down. I’m going to need the electrophoretic dialysis unit. It should be our medkits if you want to get that ready.

Yrnans stood back, and watched them opening their containers that carried various medical devices. They didn’t look as advanced nor as sleek as Trenvonn devices, but he figured they would be more effective on Seleya. The tall one waved one of the devices around the officer.

Maybe that was the weakness of the United Federation of Planets. With so many different types of species to cater for, they couldn’t specialise-- instead, they were forced to generalise.

Wong: I’m also going to need you to load up her medical file on a PADD. See if you can find anything important such as allergies or past history.

Nevark: Response

Seleya: As the doctor said ::gesturing to Yrnans:: I already have internal damage, but wasting time repairing the damage isn’t going to do anything with my blood actively poisoning my own body.

Wong: Currently, bleeding is the one thing that’s keeping you alive right now. It’s giving us a fighting chance against the Palladium buildup.

Yrnans was intrigued now. He shuffled a slight step forward to observe.

Nevark: Response

Seleya: For the love of gods, please tell me you have painkillers.

The medical scientist, no, what was it? “Officer”. The medical officer pulled a device from his container.

Wong: Yes, we do. Never leave home without em!

Yrnans: Pain inhibitors *are* something I could have offered earlier, Seleya of Khanda.

He turned his shelves of equipment, retrieving an arced, thin device.

Yrnans: This will stop any pain--

Too late. There was a “hiss” as the device was pressed against Seleya’s neck. oO Crude... but hopefully effective. Oo

He put the pain inhibitor back on the shelf.

Nevark: Response

Wong: Any better?

Seleya: Response

Nevark: Response

Ikaia affixed some sort of unit to Seleya.

Wong: And there we go - another fighting chance. But that still leaves us with the mystery as to why it’s spiking.

Curious, the Scientist II turned to the tall one’s companion, wondering why she wasn’t performing any medical treatment of the patient.

Yrnans: ::To Nevark:: You are a medical scient-- medical *officer*, as well?

Nevark: Response

Yrnans: Oh. Quite... unique. We have no direct parallel in Trenvonn society. I would be curious though to understand your role--

Naarax: ::Curtly:: Scientist III.

Yrnans bowed slight, and stepped back.

Seleya: Response

Wong: While I’m working here, can you tell us what happened when your Palladium levels started to spike? I’m assuming it’s whatever’s connected to your injuries at this point.

Nevark/Seleya: Response

At that, Naarax stepped forward to ask her own questions.

Naarax: The High Council has instructed me to ask, why your officer was in a Starfleet vessel, and where it originated from?

Seleya/Nevark/Wong: Response

Given her specialised scientific field was space, she was familiar with the concept of the corridors.

Naarax: “Underspace”. Such a simple term to describe that phenomenon. The Trenvonn have of course studied the corridors. Given their instability in the Nebula that we share, they offer no further avenue of study for our purposes.

She looked down her beak at Seleya.

Naarax: Nor threat. Until now.

She bristled her feathers.

Naarax: The High Council are also expecting a report. What is the status of the patient?

Nevark/Seleya/Wong: Responses
