((Uldera City, Zomas, near the edge of UAW space))
Aitas: Since we’re guests here, what would you recommend? I’ve been told by a friend that Olvaren is an excellent choice. And a traditional one for meeting new acquaintances.
Aitas glanced between the two Starfleet officers for their opinions, then returned her gaze to its previous position.
Moore: Olvaren works for me.
Moore: What about you?
Seleya: That is fine with me.
Ar’a’Dal: Are you the envoys of the Federation? Of the real Federation? ::pause:: Allow me to introduce myself: I am To Ar'a'Dal, scientific advisor to the High Council; on whose behalf I extend a warm welcome to Zumaris. Feel free to speak in your own language; even if it doesn't seem like it, we are technically and scientifically perfectly capable of translating languages simultaneously. ::humming:: We understand.
Seleya: Lieutenant Seleya of Khanda, and the offer is appreciated, unfortunately my native tongue is indecipherable by known translator technology.
Aitas: First Secretary Aitas, with the Federation Diplomatic Corps. And I’m quite comfortable with this language; it was taught to me by a dear friend some time ago. ::she paused, as if considering, then switched to Vulcan for a single sentence.:: And let me introduce Lieutenant Kaito Moore.
So far as she could tell, the young half El-Aurian hadn't read her file. Especially given the awkward reference to the Dominion occupation of Betazed. But perhaps she'd have to give him some recommendations for language study; ones Jakarn could do far better than she would.
Ar’a’Dal: Unfortunately, your visit coincides with the monsoon season, one of the new dams outside the city has broken, causing considerable damage that cannot be ignored. The warm weather is exacerbating the situation... But surely you didn't come here to learn about our ecosystem? ::humming:: We will understand.
Moore: Not going to lie, quite a bit on the menu seems good. Do we just want something to drink, or should we order food?
Seleya: I would not be opposed to learning about it at all, but you are correct it is not the purpose of our visit. Perhaps another time.
Aitas leaned toward the counter, her body turned a little more toward Ar’a’Dal. She spoke, again, in that same El-Aurian trade language.
Aitas: Perhaps our host has a suggestion.
Ar’a’Dal: How rude of us... Would you like something to drink or eat after your long journey? The temperatures can be truly exhausting at this time of year. ::humming:: We understand.
If this was what was considered warm here, Aitas expected she would never overheat.
Seleya: I am not hungry at the moment, but the offer is appreciated.
Aitas met Seleya’s glance with a slight nod.
Aitas: I would be glad to try something; the duties of the others may preclude them from it at times.
Moore: Response
Ar’a’Dal: If you are ready, we can gladly begin the discussions. However, the High Council was unable to provide me with much information on the matter, which is why you have made the journey out to us. ::humming:: We will certainly understand.
Seleya: I am sure our diplomatic representative can elaborate, but we want to get your people’s perspective on all the events.
Aitas:Whatever information you have will be deeply appreciated. We have only been introduced to these matters quite recently. But we also wish to understand.
Moore: Response
Seleya: Mind if I ask a few questions? When did your people make initial contact with the UAW?
Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
Seleya: And when did the fighting start?
Aitas held up a hand.
Aitas: I understand that such matters can be a most difficult subject, but whatever we might be able to offer is limited by our understanding of the situation.
Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
Seleya: I’ve also noticed a few other species that seem to be living, or at least visiting. I am sure the cultural shock with all these new species has been an adjustment.
Aitas: Are their visits all new? Such would indeed be a great challenge.
It was uncommon for such planets to get visitors around the Federation, but this was the Delta Quadrant; some ships might have taken slow or alternate routes to visit (as evidenced by their recent encounters with Underspace), and there was no Prime Directive to keep others from dipping in for trade.
Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
Aitas: Ah. That is informative, thank you.
She shifted slightly in her seat, ensuring that one of the Starfleet officers sat between her and a particularly interested local who'd nearly leaned right off the bench. Ar’a’Dal was likely placing himself at risk by speaking to them, though for what cause she couldn’t yet be certain.
While she couldn’t yet pick out the fine details of Zumardi emotion, directed attention was easier to notice.
Seleya/Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
Aitas: You said it was a new dam that had broken? For what cause was it built?
She tilted her glass so that the liquid within flowed, then leveled once again. There were many uses for dams, which caused their own disruptions in turn. A possible indication of where the UAW may have been seeking resources, a source on building techniques, perhaps even a target of one objection or another.
Seleya/Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
Aitas: If your government should not object, I would wish to see this place. Perhaps it can aid in understanding between us.
And a good chance for her escorts to take a more involved look at the local (or otherwise) technology.
Seleya/Moore/Ar’a’Dal: Response
