((Transporter Room 1 - USS Kepler))
Taelon: Any…last minute things to note, Commander? Before we’re in mixed company…?
Iko: Just because they’re trying to emulate the Federation doesn’t mean they might not be a threat. We’re helping them but we’re also there to see whether they could or would hurt us.
Saavei: I am confident an analysis can be obtained.
Taelon was glad, silently, that Iko was taking a sensible stance. It was tempting to be excited, to try to brush aside the deep concerns because these people were outwardly similar and eager to talk. All good traits, of course, but it could easily distract from a dangerous issue if they let it.
Taelon: Understood.
Iko stepped up onto her transporter pad, and gestured for them to follow suit.
Iko: Energise.

((Main Engineering, UAW Enterprise – en route to United Alliance of Worlds Territory))
The ship that materialized around them was, well, odd to see. It was clearly somewhat based off of the Federation’s tech and design principles, but at the edges it was different. As if someone had created a ship from memory.
But it wasn’t that the ship was a bad imitation; it clearly held the design principles of its creators, and despite its state of disrepair and the deeply concerning issue of the virus, Taelon admired it.
A member of the UAW crew approached. They seemed to be from a semi-aquatic species; he thought immediately of the Aquans, though she clearly didn’t need an EV suit to leave the water as they would have.
Ko'Lforta: Welcome aboard, I am Lieutenant Ko’Lforta. Senior engineer.
She extended a webbed hand in greeting.
Iko: My name is Commander Iko. ::gesturing to both:: This is Ensign Saavei, Engineering, and Commander Taelon, Science.
Ko'Lforta: It is nice to meet you all. Sorry about the mess. We were hoping to have things in more order before you arrived.
She laughed nervously.
Saavei: Do not be troubled about the aesthetic, Lieutenant. Ship repairs are often chaotic before completion.
Taelon shook her hand when it came to his turn and found her hand surprisingly warm. Perhaps he’d expected it to be more fish-like: wet, cold, and slimy. He was glad to be wrong.
Taelon: As Saavei said, don’t, um, don’t worry about the chaos.
Iko: We’re here to assist with repairs however we can. Where would you like us to start?
Ko'Lforta: Right! Well, there is a lot to do. ::She took a deep breath:: We are having issues with the antimatter regulators, so we are unable to go above warp 5 safely. We are having to re-engineer our torpedo tubes, the photons the Terrelians made were too large, so we are trying to expand the tubes. Our power system has been having random spikes that are causing overloads all over the ship. And finally with the bio-neural gel packs, we have been rerouting essential systems to the back up isolinear circuitry which was not built for the extended period of constant stress.
That was one hell of a list, Taelon thought. The virus was, of course, the most immediate concern - but he would have to trust Wong could determine its nature. His own expertise would be needed here.
Saavei: These obstacles will not prove insurmountable.
Taelon: I, um, suppose it’s a matter of priorities, then.
Iko: Response
Ko’Lforta: Well if we are going into the maintenance tubes, or working near the bio-neural gel-packs we need to be wearing biohazard suits with the infection that is now spreading around. If you are not interested in that we can look into our power system issues or the antimatter regulators?
Saavei: It may be more efficient to wait until the infection is better understood before we address the gel packs. Do you have a comprehensive readout of the different issues and any schematic diagrams which would be of use?
As Saavei asked her very sensible questions, ARIA drifted down to Taelon, taking up position with its little golden ‘feet’ resting on his uniform’s shoulderpad. It had begun scanning, eyeless head turning here and there as it focussed its scanners.
Iko: Response
Ko’Lforta: If you want to look at our current list of repairs, please do. I would really appreciate any insight you have. We have had everyone pulling double shifts to get fixed.
Saavei took the pad and Taelon looked over her shoulder in turn as she scrolled through the list of repairs.
Saavei: Would it be permissible to create a copy of this list and available diagrams on my PADD, Lieutenant?
Iko: Response
Saavei: I believe the overloads, then regulators, should be addressed first. Do you concur, Lieutenant?
Taelon was worried about the overloaded backup systems more than their lack of warp. But the power fluctuations were definitely their foremost concern, and he had few objections to following Saavei’s lead. He spoke up quietly, as was usual.
Taelon: Finding a way to, um, take the load off their backup systems before they fry them would be good, I think. Unless the antimatter is used for other purposes than warp…?
Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
Saavei: ::To Ko'LForta:: The name 'Enterprise' is a storied one among Starfleet. How have you found serving aboard your own Enterprise to be?
Saavei was surprisingly social for a Vulcan, Taelon thought…but he was likely being biased by his experiences with V’Lar, the Gorkon’s CMO. V’Lar was very…well, he found he preferred Saavei’s expectation of other’s intelligence. V’Lar so often seemed to assume they were the only one in the room with a dictionary.
Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
Taelon: Serving on the Enterprise is…well, for Starfleet, that’s the ultimate badge of honor, I suppose. I hope this Enterprise is - ::He paused and stumbled over his words; he’d been about to say ‘like the real one’, and stopped himself.:: Um, just as revolutionary as her namesake..?
Saavei: Were you able to participate in its construction?
Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
Taelon trailed after them as they moved, Ko’Lforta leading them through the ship.
Taelon: She’s, um, a beautiful ship.
Saavei/Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
Taelon: When did - when did the issues start? You said, um, that the torpedoes are mismatched - that sounds to me like you’re also having teething issues…?
Saavei/Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
Taelon: So is this her maiden voyage? So to speak?
Saavei/Iko/Ko'LForta: Response
