(OOC: As we did with a previous service ribbons ceremony, this is a rare one-off sim. Do not leave further tags. Just reply to it in one sim to show your character's reactions to everything
and then end it. On with the show!)
((Lighthouse Restaurant, Amity Outpost))
Keehani smiled widely, unable to hide her absolute joy at being asked to help present ribbons to the Starfleet crew.
Wearing a black and white mostly striped designer dress, she interlocked her fingers in front of herself while looking out to all the assembled officers. Her eyes sparkled as she stood next to John, in front of the table that contained the ribbons to be
handed out.
Vataix: Welcome everyone. First, let me thank Moher Mavenni Siyel and the Second House of Betazed for arranging this lovely dinner for us tonight. The Second House wishes to honor all of your achievements this past year, and I wholeheartedly agree that you
all should be proud of what we've built out here at Amity.
Keehani nodded politely to Mavenni, and addressed her by her formal matriarchal title.
Keehani: Thank you, Mother Perennial.
Any: Response
Vataix: I'd like to begin now with recognition for a few individuals in particular. First, Ensign Nathan Richards?
Richards: Response
Vataix: For the severe injuries you sustained while working to extract a subspace antenna, you are hereby recognized with the Purple Heart.
Keehani smiled and gave polite applause, and watched as Ensign Richards came forward for his ribbon. She had met him briefly at the barbeque, and hoped that he was faring well with his new arm.
Richards: Response
Carter: Response
She watched as Commander Carter handed the ribbon to Rivi, who then pinned it to Ensign Richard’s uniform.
Vataix: May you continue to heal and recover smoothly.
Richards: Response
Keehani watched as Rivi looked around at the officers in the restaurant.
Vataix: Where's Bec?
Iko: Response
Vataix: Come up here, please!
The officer that was from the same part of Earth as her cousin Wil (and her other cousin Wil also known as “Acradem”) stepped up to the podium. Keehani turned around a fetched the relevant ribbon, before handing it to Ambassador Vataix.
Vataix: For risking your own life to retrieve Ensign Richards after he was hit by the duplicated probes in the subspace sinkhole, Lieutenant Bec Iko, you are hereby awarded with the Gold Lifesaving Ribbon.
Iko: Response
Vataix: Congratulations.
Iko: Response
Richards: Response
Ambassador Vataix then turned her attention to Commander Carter.
Vataix: John, it's your turn. For taking command of the USS Independence during the emergency and leading the crew effectively while they were separated by bulkheads and communication interference, you are hereby awarded the Legion of Merit. Keehani?
Keehani gave Rivi a nod before she turned behind her and picked up the ribbon. She then handed the ribbon to the Ambassador, who in turned pinned it to Commander Carter’s uniform.
Vataix: Congratulations!
Carter: Response
Vataix: Next, I'd like to recognize the following officers with the Captain's Commendation: Ensign Richards, Lieutenants Iko and Flint, for successfully retrieving a subspace antenna that was integral to your rescue; and Lieutenant Kivik, for nir EVA efforts
to ensure an antigraviton beam was properly extended into the subspace sinkhole so that the Independence could be pulled out. Well-done, all of you!
Keehani clapped as she allowed Commander Carter to be the one to retrieve the ribbons this time.
Richards: Response
Iko: Response
Flint: Response
Kivik: Response
Vataix: Next, I'd like to recognize Wil Ukinix with the Innovation Ribbon for his actions to establish communications with the USS Kitty Hawk through technological means of extraordinary effort and skill. In light of us having two individuals with a shared
history of this notable act, I present both of the men named Wil Ukinix with this ribbon.
That made Keehani smile. Seeing her cousin(s) get recognition for his (their?) good work filled her with sheer Joy.
She watched as both Wils approached the podium. The Betazoid version of her cousin seemed amused that two of them were receiving the ribbon. However, she sensed that the human version of her cousin had mixed emotions about receiving an award at the same time
as his Betazoid doppelganger, punctuated by one stray through that Keehani picked up from him:
Ukinix: oO This is a bit awkies. Oo
Nonetheless, her human cousin politely accepted the award from Rivi with a genuine smile.
Ukinix(H): Thank you, Madam Ambassador.
That was followed by Betazoid Wil receiving the ribbon.
Ukinix(B): Thank you, Rivi.
Keehani then stepped forward and wrapped her arm around human Wil and kissed his cheek-
Keehani: ::Whispering:: Well done!
-before repeating the same gesture to Betazoid Wil.
Keehani: ::Whispering:: Congratulations, cousin.
The First Secretary held back a slight smirk. It was interesting how Betazoid Wil referred to Rivi as “Rivi”, whereas human Wil had addressed Rivi using the more formal “Madam Ambassador” title.
Vataix: Next, Dr. Orrey, Lieutenants Reade and Wong, and Lieutenant Commander Carter, you all are hereby recognized with the Good Conduct Ribbon for your gallantry in facing the onslaught of the duplicated probes against the hull of the USS Independence to
ensure that communications could be properly established. Congratulations, gentlemen.
Given that Carter was one of the recipients, Keehani turned and retrieved the ribbons for Rivi, before handing them to the Ambassador while giving Envoy Orrey, Lieutenant Reade, Lieutenant Wong, and Commander Carter a smile and applause.
Orrey: Response
Reade: Response
Wong: Response
Carter: Response
Vataix: And lastly, I have a few points of recognition that go beyond this past mission. First, Lieutenant Wong and Lieutenant Commander Iovianus, you have served as department heads of your respective departments for well beyond the minimum six months required
by this ribbon and you have served them with distinction. I hereby award both of you with the Department Chief Ribbon.
Keehani smile and clapped.
Wong: Response
Iovianus: Response
Vataix: And finally, believe it or not, we are coming up on the one-year anniversary since Amity Outpost first opened its airlocks to the people of the Delta Quadrant. To honor the original crew who have been here since day one, I am proud to present Lieutenant
Commanders Ukinix, Carter, and Iovianus as well as Lieutenants Ariadust, Reade, Iko, Wong, and Kivik with the Maiden Voyage Ribbon. Congratulations all of you. My staff and I of the Federation Diplomatic Corps could not have done our work without your crucial
support.
Keehani: ::Polite nod:: Congratulations, officers, and thank you.
Any: Response
When Rivi raised her glass, Keehani quickly spun around to grab her champagne flute from the table, before turning back to face everyone.
Vataix: Congratulations and well-done, once again, to the crew of Amity Outpost. May this just be the first of many years to come for our shining beacon of friendship out here amongst the stars.
Keehani momentarily lifted her glass, then with a smile followed an old Earth custom by tapping it against Envoy Orrey’s and Commander Carter’s drink glasses, before taking a sip of the sparkling white wine.
