Bec’s revelation that she believed Dr. Suribana had, in fact, been attacked – something which, in the heat of the moment, had been quite unclear to Kivik – came as a complete surprise. Ne had thought only that Dr. Suribana had been affected by a stray Tetryon beam from the overloading relay – but if…
Wong: She…. she was attacked?
Iko: Yeah, she was shot. The particle beam was green. That's all we know. Security is working on finding out more.
Kivik: ::Grimacing:: Well, it would be an awfully unfortunate coincidence… but she could have been attacked and hit by the relay’s energy pulse at the same time. That might explain why her condition is so rough.
Wong: That would explain my findings so far.
Kivik shook nir head. Poor Dr. Suribana… The tetryon emissions had been intense enough to hospitalize two Klingons. Taking a phaser shot of some kind at the same time… well, it was lucky that she was even still alive.
Iko: She was in sickbay by the time all *that* happened. I got Wong on coms for beam out, then klingon booth went poof, then I ran over and went "what the... ::waving arm around:: hell is going on?"
Kivik noticed Ikaia’s grave expression. Evidently, he felt as awful about Dr. Suribana’s condition as ne did – only he also shouldered the burden of trying to heal her… and the possibility of failure.
Wong: Is that everything that happened?
Kivik: Well, there was a lot happening all at once. Obviously, there is still some room for interpolating information from various reports…
Iko: Hey, Ikaia, you alright?
Rather than respond immediately, Ikaia quietly picked up his coffee and took a drink. Evidently he was not entirely alright. Kivik could hardly blame him.
Wong: I’ll be fine, Ensign. I’m just far more concerned about helping Doctor Suribana.
Kivik: I’m sure you’re doing everything you possible can. Knowing you, you’re probably doing more than you possibly can.
Kivik offered Ikaia a comforting smile. Unfortunately, about all ne could offer in this situation – though would like to do more. Bec, untroubled by the weight of responsibility, seemed to be handling the situation far better.
Iko: ::completely off topic from what they were talking about:: Do you think they have any spare chilli powder?
Wong: Hm? I would think so. They may have some up at the front.
Kivik: ::With a look that said “at a time like this?”:: Bec…
Iko: ah- nevermind. ::gesturing to them both:: Continue.
Wong: So Kivik, what else do you remember about the expo?
Kivik: Well, of course, the the Klingon relay was the primary problem. However, the reason it was overloading in the first place was the Ildarian’s quantum kiln. It used quantum field manipulation to simultaneously accelerate and decelerate molecular agitation in high-density metals… But that system simply fed excess energy back into the Klingon’s relay. Which worked well – at least at the start.
Iko: Unless the Klingons booth was pouring out radiation just by being on...
Wong: I thought it was just one burst of tetryon particles and not a continuous leak?
Kivik: The system was containing most of the energy in question, but as it built up, it became too much to handle and the energy breached the tetryon field – that’s what caused the tetryon radiation bursts. Between bursts, however, there could have been a smaller continuous leak of energy – but that should have been contained by the emergency forcefield.
Iko: Ikaia? You alright?
Kivik, who had been distracted, trying to think back to the Expo, looked at Bec and then at Ikaia with a questioning look. Was Ikaia looking concerned?
Wong: I’m okay. I’ll be fine. You don’t have to worry about me, Iko.
Iko: Response
Kivik: The only other thing of note that I can think of is, of course, there were people aboard who were less than pleased with how things were being handled with the Vidiians. There was a demonstra– no, that’s not quite right. There was one angry man who stood on a table for a while, but he was taken away by security. So he couldn’t have been involved.
Ikaia set his coffee back down and steepled his fingers. He looked across at his friends.
Wong: I want to find Suribana’s attackers.
Kivik: I believe she had been assigned to assist with the Vidiian situation… Maybe that’s the connection?
Iko: Response
Wong: It’s why I’m planning to also speak to Iovainus. I want to know why they did what they did and how to best protect everyone under my care. I want to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
Kivik: Of course… ::Thinking:: Wouldn’t our internal sensors have detected weapons fire? How could they even bring weapons aboard – wouldn’t they have been detected when they disembarked from their vessels?
Iko: Response
Wong: Response
Kivik: So perhaps they found a way through the station’s security systems… but we were pretty careful preparing for this event.
Iko/Wong: Response
Kivik: This is hardly my area of expertise. But could it be possible that they weren’t conventional weapons? Perhaps they were improvised weapons… there were certainly plenty of visiting scientists and engineers who could have fabricated something along those lines…?
Iko/Wong: Response
