Galanis: Given such… specific fields of interest and mutual acquaintances, Lieutenant Taelon, I’m very curious what your speciality is.

Taelon: Oh! Ah - well - perhaps it’s, um, predictable, but I’m, a cybernetics and robotics specialist. With, um, a lot of overlap into neuroscience, unsurprisingly…

Zh'Dograk-Zeth: So ::rodding towards ARIA:: this is your doing, ay?

Cybernetics. There it was. Between that and the robot, it felt safe for Niev to assume they at least had an idea of who this mysterious man was and why he was all the way out here in the Delta Quadrant.

Galanis: I would assume at least partially. I was wondering if I’d ever get to meet the specialist Miss Aitas implied existed.

Taelon: Ah - majored in Exotech, technically, but you, um, know how it is…your major tends to be where you started, and all that…::He cleared his throat:: Um, what about you?

Zh'Dograk-Zeth: Agriculture, mainly. All the kids grew up and took over work on the block on earth and I had to go find something new to entertain me-self with.

As the elder Andorian chuckled to herself, Niev pondered her accent. It was so strangely reminiscent of some of the others on the Outpost - what was that region of Terra called again? Austria?

Zh’Dograk-Zeth: For a while there I thought me eldest was gonna go down your route, building little robots ‘n things.

Galanis: It’s a very interesting field of study. It can sometimes feel as though android technology wound up overshadowing more interesting applications of robotics.

Taelon: Oh, you’ve seen Fureri! It’s a more modern style, but it’d adapted well to Aitas so far. I need to, um, do a check in with her and see how her implant has been doing. I’m hoping the Neuroscience labs here might have equipment I can use for that...

Galanis: Not as though there’s much we restrict, but I can assist you in putting in any sort of requisition you may need while here. I’m sure you’ll be allowed whatever you need, particularly if it’s for a check up on a member of the crew.

Zh’Dograk-Zeth: Then let's have a look-see, shall we?

Galanis: Of course. This way, then.

Taelon: Response

As they made their way down the corridor, Niev indicated one of the first doors on their left, leading the way inside of the robotics labs. While the shift change was close enough there wasn’t bustling activity, already scientists were working away on various projects and discussing schematics quietly. All, except, for the agricultural scientist who had immediately begun opening drawers and pulling random things out of them.

Zh’Dograk-Zeth: What'd’ya need?

Several slow, awkward blinks escaped Niev before they recovered their composure, softly clearing their throat in an attempt to get the Andorian’s attention. The Centauran hadn’t been the one to meticulously organize those drawers, but they could feel the pain of watching someone rummage through them in their bones.

Galanis: Ehm… I suppose it might be better to let Lieutenant Taelon take a look around first? …At least let me tell him what part of the room is for what?

Taelon: Response

Zh’Dograk-Zeth: That's them ah…

Galanis: …You’ve pulled all of those out of the drawer, and you don’t know what they’re called?

The question lingered on the edge of their tongue. Niev could only wonder why.

Taelon: Response

Zh’Dograk-Zeth: Nah, I got no idea darl. But that's half the fun of science! ::handing Niev a large piece of random equipment:: here, hold onto this for me, would ya?

Now Niev was being handed random, sensitive looking equipment, the expression of worry on their face deepening by the moment. They looked awkwardly at the other scientists in the lab, their attention finally returning to Taelon. So much for making a professional first impression. It seemed as though that were an impossibility for the young science officer.

Galanis: Well… as you can see. we at least don’t lack a variety of equipment.

Taelon: Response

Carefully placing the random pieces of equipment they’d been handed back in their places,

Galanis: I take it Agricultural studies are a very… hands on kind of field? I imagine there’s much less concern about delicate components.

Taelon / Zh’Dograk-Zeth: Response

Galanis: Of course, we can simply recycle and replicate broken parts. But exhaustive reassembly and recalibration are a quick way to a delayed project. I can’t imagine how much time it would take to put together something like ARIA.

Taelon / Zh’Dograk-Zeth: Response

Galanis: If you’ll both follow me this way, we can see the rest of Robotics on our way toward Neurosciences. Is there anything in particular you’ll be needing to perform your work, Lieutenant?

The question was phrased and intoned professionally, but there was an underlying curiosity to it all the same. Niev couldn’t seem to help their curiosity over just how a person like Taelon performed science.

Taelon / Zh’Dograk-Zeth: Response
