(OOC: Had a nap so not as late as I thought I would be as I found the energy to write.)

Char continued to work whilst the others spoke.  She typed away and finally was able to send what she could only hope was all the weasels to cargo hold. Hopefully they didn’t do too much damage there. She sent a silent prayer to the Givers there was enough metal to be a food source seeing as they all appeared to be hungry without them wanting to break out for the good stuff that was the energy.  Given the cargo hold was away from the main systems this should hopefully buy them time before the weasels would be interested in trying to find a way out as everything else was as shut down as possible. But there were never any guarantees of something like that.

Vanlith: Transport complete, did I get them all? Do we even know how many there should be there?

Saavei: I am unsure. Their social behaviors while hunting Lieutenant Wong would suggest they would all be in close proximity, however.

Moore: Brings up the question: why would a species that sustains off of metal and energy even think about hunting an organic? Some kind of inorganic-organic omnivore?

Char frowned, honestly she had no idea. She knew of the voles due to the risk they posed engineering, beyond that she had never given them any thought.

Rosek-Skyfire: Maybe they’re smelling something that Doctor Wong is carrying, and that’s what’s attracting them?

Wong: =/\=I’m in the turbolift and on my way…..=/\=

Saavei: =/\= Recommend you proceed directly, Lieutenant. Turbolifts will not be functional for long. =/\=

Char furiously typed away again, she was desperately trying to use the internal scanners to find more of these things and send them on their way to the cargo hold but the limited power restricted how much scanning she could do at a time. She couldn’t leave the job given the risk of damage the voles could do but she also hated she couldn’t do more to get Wong here.

Vanlith: Still working on the scans on other areas.

Wong: =/\=Dear sweet zombie Spock….. You’re not going to believe this….=/\=

Saavei: ::clearly confused, looking to the others:: Dear sweet zombie Spock?... I am concerned the doctor may be suffering from radiation poisoning if he is seeing the ambulatory corpse of Ambassador Spock.

Char didn’t even look up as she continued to work, either Wong was going to have to be clearer or someone was going to have to ask.

Moore: The "not going to believe" part is what we should be worried about…

Rosek-Skyfire: ::grimaces:: Agreed.

Ok well she was asking.

Vanlith: ::trying to remain polite:: =/\= Care to elaborate =/\=

Wong: =/\=I managed to get a scan of those creatures and I can say that this is the most… uh…. Cursed combination of DNA I have ever seen. I see tribble, Cardassian vole, and a third unknown species.=/\=

Rosek-Skyfire: ::frowns:: I can’t imagine that’s by accident. Someone must have been experimenting with genetic engineering. These creatures were clearly designed for a purpose.

Moore: Oh hell no… handling the rodent problem.

Rosek-Skyfire: We’re stretched thin on power distribution or I’d give you more to work with. Between trying to keep the turbolifts running and boosting internal sensors to find the creatures in the first place, we’ll be blessed if we don’t start seeing sectors of the station lose life support.

Vanlith: Hoping to release some power to you soon.

Char continued to type furiously, finding more and more of the creatures across the outpost and transporting them to the cargo bay.  The blaring alarm only making her work faster.

Saavei: Turbolifts are failing. Reading disruptions in the power supply. Lieutenant Vanlith, are you able to compensate?

Vanlith: Just finishing scans standby.

Saavei: =/\= Lieutenant Wong, we are attempting to keep the lift operational. Power is intermittent. If you remove the maintenance panel in the lift, you may be able to augment power with your scanner battery =/\=

Wong: Response

Saavei: We may need to transport him if this does not work. I would rather apologize for scrambling his atoms than have him risk exposure to the radiation.

Moore: How bad is the power loss?

Rosek-Skyfire: ::shakes her head:: At this rate, we may need to start shifting personnel and shutting down power to more sections of the station to maintain thresholds. My concern is that we’re already running at near minimum. We may reach a point where that will harm more than help.

Vanlith: Scanning last levels now..

Wong: Responses

Saavei: Thirty-two percent degradation in power supply.

Char grimaced the degradation was considerably worse than first anticipated.

Moore: That seems worse than projected. We must be losing or using more power than expected… I have an idea.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::grins unamusedly:: It may have something to do with unexpectedly needing to rescue Doctor Wong from weasel-vole creatures. We hadn’t accounted for needing that turbolift. All personnel were supposed to be evacuating from that section.

Moore: Let’s start with grav plating. That takes up a lot of energy, but also has backups. Cut the grav plating in unimportant areas, and transfer the backups’ energy to where we need it.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::nods:: I’d taken some from there for the internal sensors, but I’ll see if there are more sections we can pull from. We might just need to go to emergency lighting in more areas.

Char continued to work and finally completed the scans and transports immediately redistributing the power between the turbolift and the cargo hold to assist everyone.

Vanlith: Scans and Transporting complete. Redistributing power now.

Saavei/Wong: Responses

Moore: Hmm. That one’s giving me a little bit of trouble.

Vanlith: This isn’t holding.

Saavei/Wong: Response

Forget it, there was no way they were risking the outpost overall for this turbolift, she would transport him here. She would apologise later.

Rosek-Skyfire: Saavei, Charlena, get the Doctor out of there! Now!

That was all the blessing she needed. The power boost redirected her way was everything she needed and Wong would just have to forgive her later. The turbolift was beyond working, and there was nothing else they could do to get him here. Unless he planned on outrunning the radiation.

Vanlith: Completing transport now.

Saavei/Wong: Response

Moore: Not today! Satan!

Char spun at Kaitos' shout. Clearly he had some success in the end with the Vole weasel engineering destroying things. And then the familiar shimmer filled the space next to her as Wong joined them. She pulled all power from the turbo lift then.

Vanlith: Shutting down the turbolift now.

Saavei/Wong: Response

Moore: Sorry. Got a little excited… Oh hey Wong?! When did you get here?

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: Are you good, Doctor? Any injuries?

Wong: Response

Rosek-Skyfire: ::nods:: Can you start with the others? It usually takes longer for radiation to affect me anyway. I can keep working on power redistribution in the meantime.

Wong: Response

Char frowned, she hated hypos, she wasn’t a huge fan of doctors. And right now she was struggling with her emotions towards Wong, the hatred of transporters had just put the whole of Amity at risk.

Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Saavei and Vanlith:: How’s it looking over there?

Vanlith: Degradation has improved slightly but I would recommend moving turbolifts to minimal power and shutting down the ones we no longer need.

Saavei: Responses

Rosek-Skyfire: Good. I’ll transfer a bit of the turbolift power to the delivery system to ensure we get full coverage of the cargo hold. ::to Kaito:: Did we get them all?

Moore: At least the ones around the doctor. ::He motioned towards Wong:: And various others we could detect, but I think we got them.

Rosek-Skyfire: Good work, Lieutenant. We should give one more decent sweep before we move on, though.

Moore: Agreed, Commander. If what was scanned is right, and they are part tribble… which there are really only two parts of tribbles, eating and… mating… so if they breed like tribbles then we have a problem, because one tribble can produce about ten babies every… twelve hours… Just one could breed over fourteen thousand in two days.

Char frowned, she knew he was right, that was why her pets were desexed. That didn’t make her feel any better about harming animals that were doing the only thing they knew how to do, survive.

Moore: We’re looking at getting overrun if we don’t stop them.

Vanlith: We are going to need a more permanent solution than this in the long run.

Saavei/Wong/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses

Moore: My question is where did they come from? Why are they here, and showing up now? Surely we would have detected them before the storm?! I know internal sensors should have flagged the damage they’re doing?

Vanlith: I have to agree, from what the scans found and transported there are more here than anyone would like already. But nothing has come up in routine repairs and checks to indicate anything like this here. Wong you said these were Jansens? Some pet noone knows about?

Saavei/Wong/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses

Char watched as kaito turned back to work and gritted her teeth as the power issues flagged red on her screen again and she desperately tried to redistribute to help him and maintain the shields and the future of Amity as they knew it.

Moore: Well, I know this won’t be popular, and I might get the couch suggesting it, but that’s the life of a Tactical Officer. If this gets out of hand, and we missed any… then we’ll have to exterminate them, because this is a lose-everything level of disaster as they literally eat us out of home… if we didn’t get all of them. Assuming they reproduce like tribbles.

Char looked at Kaito. She felt sick now. Parts of her agreed, they wouldn’t afford to be overrun, especially not now when power was so vital they couldn’t waste it on these creatures. But the power degradation was way worse than any of their predictions. Part of her worried now that elements they needed in engineering to maintain the hold they had now in the habitat ring were actually damaged by these voles and they didn’t know about it because they didn’t have the power to check for it.

Terminating them seemed extreme but in moments like this what else could be suggested. She loved animals but not at the cost of everyone else’s lives.

Vanlith: We either need answers right now on the reproduction rate and damage they do or we have to assume the worst. I don’t like it but it really is the only reasonable choice.

Saavei/Moore/Wong/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses

Char frowned as she turned back to her screen.

Vanlith: Wong, you said that the voles were in main engineering? And that they were causing damage?

Saavei/Moore/Wong/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses

Vanlith: ::to Lael:: Commander, I know main engineering has had everything possible shut down but having the generators online is fundamental for us to do that. If the voles had been in engineering before they were transported out they could have started to do damage. Not enough for it to be noticeable but enough for it to be impacting this. Our power issues might not just be the storm now but the storm and the damage the voles have done. I don’t think we will know unless someone goes down there. Or well I go down there. It makes more sense for yourself and Ensign Saavei to remain here for this work.

She paused and looked around the group.

Saavei/Moore/Wong/Rosek-Skyfire: Responses

Vanlith: In and out as quickly as possible. I trust that I can either fix the problem, or bring the backups online and turn it off to prevent the energy issues from remaining as severe as they are. ::Pausing and taking a breath:: And Commander if we are agreed on terminating the voles I think it best someone who is a good shot comes with me.  If possible could I request Lieutenant Moore, we have previously worked well on engineering issues under high pressure and he is an exceptional shot.

She really hoped that didn’t go to his head too much.
