Bryn: No way! Busy B herself has a girlfriend, and she’s you! That’s amazing! What a pilot! Where are you guys?
Iko: We’re in the Marrakech district.
Bryn: Very cool! Have you always been there? What were things like when you were an ensign? ::a pause:: Was your roommate nice?
Iko: I did have a roomie as an ensign for a little bit. But he I think went off on a different assignment or something. Took the six week trip just to take the next QSD back.
It wasn’t exactly that, but that was Australian exaggeration and under-exaggeration at work.
Bryn: That’s… ::a pause, trying to say ‘stupid’ with tact. She couldn’t find the word:: hmm.
Bec nodded. While Paarus probably had his reasons. “Hmm” indeed.
Iko: Anname lived… above a fortune teller’s shop at the time.
Bec wondered how Ninzo was going. But she enjoyed how much calmer the world was without getting into a conversation with the lovely but intense Fereng more.
Bryn: Is she doing okay? I haven’t seen her since we were both getting our bones all fixed.
Iko: Yeah, she’s fine.
It was Annamae. Crashing a shuttle? Highlight of the week.
Bryn: She saved my life. If it’s alright with you, I might stop by your place sometime to say thanks.
Iko: Yeah, sure you can do that.
Bec sort of blurted out the invitation before thinking about it. Truth be told, she didn’t really invite people over much. There wasn’t really a reason why (other than the whole tossing jacket over the couch arm all the time thing which she totally didn’t do), the thought had just never really come up.
Bryn: So… how did you pick out the Marrakech district? Everyone is asking where I’d want to be placed once they get a more permanent, less ‘we got you out of the hospital here’s a bed’ situation figured out.
Iko: Well, there were a lot of vacant places in it at the time, and…
She trailed off with a shrug.
Iko: I really didn’t give it much thought other than that.
Bryn: Response
Iko: Is there anywhere you’re looking at at the moment?
Bryn: Response
Iko: Oh, yeah.
She smiled.
Bryn: Response
Bec looked out the train’s window. While a fair part of the journey was the glorious views of hull, hull, and more hull, sometimes it gave you enough snippets to be able to say:
Iko: We’re almost at the Mezz.
The holographic displays at the ends of each carriage that all said “Next stop, Mezzanine” did help to confirm Bec’s guess, too.
Bryn: Response
