((Main Engineering; UAW Enterprise))
Saavei could see Juriton already appearing to not feel well… would the pathogen affect him so quickly? She hoped it was also in tandem with him taking a shot at a ‘stun’ setting but couldn’t be sure. She wasn’t a doctor, she couldn’t cure his illness right now even if she was, and the alarm sounds were increasingly frantic.
Saavei: I am going to bring the warp core to an emergency stop while we still have time, in the event the Lieutenant was not bluffing about additional security. If you are able to get the cooling unit into position, we can begin our task.
Juriton: ::wearily:: I—
Juriton grabbed a piece of adhesive tape and used it to secure his arm.
Juriton: ArrggHHHH!
Juriton got back to his feet and staggered to the cooling unit. Saavei could hear him breathing heavily.
Saavei moved to the main console in Engineering and began inputting commands. It was sufficiently enough like LCARS to handle an emergency task like that. There was still steam pouring out of the warp core from where Trauina’s weapon had struck it, the emergency force field flickering once more and then dying as the system was brought offline.
oO At least the magnetic containment locks are still functional for now… Oo
Saavei: Warp core is offline. Main power is also failing. Switching to secondary systems… which are also failing. Patching in tertiary systems to maintain seal integrity. Tertiary circuits are… not something we should rely on for long.
Assuming she was reading the display correctly.
Juriton used his right arm and body to push the coolung unit into place.
Juriton: The Astrofleet has been... ::heaving:: .. relying on them this long... ::heaving:: ... what's a few more minutes?
Saavei glanced to Juriton to see how he was doing. She moved to the main core interlock area, as the plasma flow ceased, scanning the area with her tricorder. Trauina had indeed done damage to the core’s protective casing but she hadn’t penetrated it entirely. The UAW Enterprise could still be saved but it would be an understatement to say it would need a lengthy overhaul. Unfortunately, whether because of failing power or because of her utilizing the LCARS-seeming system wrong, the ship was going offline one section at a time.
Saavei: Removing protective caps now. Junctions are exposed. We can begin attaching the cooling system to the main plasma conduit intakes here.
Juriton nodded.
Juriton: Got it—
He attached the tubes from the cooling system into the conduit intakes that had been exposed by Jefferies tube entrance A-648-J3. With a click, they locked into place.
Saavei could hear yells in the not-so-far distance. The security reinforcements had encountered their locked doors but they weren’t too far away. Whether by brute force, by tube, or by plasma drill, she and Juriton were likely to be captured in the next ten minutes. Which meant they needed to purge the mold before then. She worked to help attach the requisite equipment, turning the cooling unit on and verifying its power source was strong.
Saavei: Filling plasma conduits with the refrigerant gas now… ::tapping the console on the Starfleet device:: … and activating cooling cycle. We will know in short order if this was successful or not.
He shuffled over to a UAW console and tapped away at the screen. A few seconds later, the main entrance to engineering was sealed off by a quickly lowering blast door.
Juriton: That'll give the officers something else to think about while
we freeze the gel packs.
He tapped to move to another LCARS-like screen. It was a diagnostic display of
the gel pack network.
Saavei: Any signs of progress?
Juriton: It's working. Gel pack temperatures are dropping, systems are
going offline. Life support systems are... switch to backup, amazing, wonders
will never cease.
Saavei: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations indeed. Maintaining
life support will certainly make this easier.
Outside of the blast doors, a group of 10 security officers arrived, two of
them pacing up and down the door, looking for a way in, while one tried to
activate a console. One of them redundantly pointed a phaser at Juriton, as they raise their voice
at him. but the blast door was soundproof too. He lifted his right arm to point
at the ear area of his helmet, then shrugged.
Juriton: Sorry, can't hear you!
Saavei: If we are fortunate, they will not have a plasma cutter. ::Glancing
to the security personnel then back to her work:: The UAW Enterprise will be
saved either way before they can force entry.
Juriton: Well, when the coolant travels back this way, they're going to
get very cold. ::Looking at duct-plus tape on his sleeve:: and so might I.
She looked to his damaged suit.
Saavei: If we begin to lose temperature control, I will deactivate the
inhibitors so we can perform an emergency beam out. I believe our task is
nearly accomplished?
Juriton: ::Tapping console:: All I can tell you is that the gel packs
are freezing. We may not know unless the Kepler can do some sort of scans of
our ship. Do you have that capability?
Saavei: We do though the Kepler is likely occupied at the moment. We will
be able to verify it in short order, once there is a stand down with the
Astrofleet.
Varati: =/\= Saavei?! We'll send you a backup in case the gel packs can no longer be frozen... UrCho spray. Better not ask what's in it. =/\=
Wong: =/\=You’re going to need to know what’s in it.=/\= ::A brief pause:: =/\=It’s a compound synthesized with urine - either synthetic or uh… natural if you can get it from a healthy source.=/\=
Saavei glanced to Commander Juriton. She wasn’t leaving Main Engineering to access those tanks but it was good to know there were additional options.
Saavei: =/\= I am certain the UAW Enterprise possesses recycling systems which could provide the requisite materials =/\= ::Then to Juriton:: Additional solutions present themselves.
Juriton: Response
The freeze process itself appeared to be working well. The cold cycled through the UAW Enterprise in rapid succession, the existing pathways piping it directly where it needed to go. In patches beyond her line of sight, the mold would begin to die, including in Main Engineering as it passed through the afflicted areas there. The security team stopped pounding on the door, temporarily, but were “mean-mugging” (Saavei believed that was the term) both of them from the other side.
Saavei: I did note one curious detail with my tricorder scan after we neutralized the Lieutenant. ::She motioned towards Trauina:: I do not believe her life signs match UAW species. Nor are they a match for the Zumardi.
Juriton: Response
Saavei pulled up her tricorder’s library function and compared the scans. Her eyebrow raised, as she looked at the screen, then back to Juriton.
Saavei: She is a surgically altered Vaadwaur. I imagine both the UAW and Zumardi will have a number of questions for her, when she regains consciousness.
Juriton: Response
