((Section Alpha, Shuttlebay))
The two Talon class scout vessels, the Yosemite (which had affectionally been nicknamed the “Yosemite Sam” by the crew) and the
Daintree, stood side by side. Keehani came to understand that both were named after significant natural parks on Earth.
Keehani: ::Gesturing, smiling, cordial tone::
After you.
Keehani watched as the CMO politely ensured their Hawlat guest got in safely.
Wong: Watch your step. Sometimes the first step can trip you up.
She smiled as Wong made sure to walk in after Sahim.
oO He’s got a future career in diplomacy if he wants it, this one. Oo
After allowing Dr Suribana and Kivik to enter before her, she was the last one in.
Keehani: ::Handing “Brew Continuum” branded take away cup to Sahim:: Spiced tea for you.
This one is Cinnamon spiced tea.
Sahim/Suribana: Responses
She took her own seat, and watched as the Starfleet officers did their thing to make the scout leave the shuttle bay.
((Cockpit - Yosemite “Yosemite Sam” - Angel Grazing Site))
As the scout came to a stop, Keehani couldn’t help notice how Wong seemed to be impressed by what he was seeing.
She herself couldn’t see it yet.
Wong: Wow…. they’re beautiful…..
Kivik: ::Talking a mile a minute:: Yes! I can’t wait to figure out how they metabolize the gasses of the nebula into usable energy. What do you suppose
their base element is? It couldn’t be carbon, could it? What do you suppose their respiration is like? Maybe they don’t respirate at all!
Keehani smiled. Kivik’s enthusiasm was infectious.
Sahim/Suribana: Responses
Wong: Alright. So we’re far enough away so we shouldn’t scare them. Let’s
take our scans and start our observations. See what we can learn about these creatures.
Kivik: Right! ::Rushing to nir stowed equipment and removing a large grey crate:: Let’s start really simple. We don’t want to startle them or cause them any discomfort. A simple molecular scanner can give us an idea of… what elements make up the Angels’
physical forms.
Keehani moved over to the front window of the shuttle, and craned her neck in a way to get the best view of them.
She took a deep breath to get the best sensory read on them that she could with her natural Betazoid abilities.
Keehani: ::Looking out of window:: They’re feeling something close to elation.
They are definitely enjoying themselves.
They have very basic emotions. But the ones they have are strong.
Sahim/Suribana:
Responses
Wong: Kivik, Suribana, see if you can get your equipment set up,
alright? Let’s see what data we can capture here.
Kivik: ::To Suribana:: Doctor, do you think you could help me with
this? We’ll need to focus in on the Angels - but they are hard to pick up on scanners. I’ve modified the scanner to increase the range - but we’re going to get a lot more stellar noise clouding up the results, especially from the benamite in the area.
Sahim/Suribana: Responses
Keehani found a sport to park herself near the main window, and just watched the creatures frolicking in the gases. The view was beautiful, stars as far as the eye could see, and a beautiful glowing purple gas that seemed everywhere, and stretching into the distance both ways. The “Angels” and their purple tendrils where like watching marine creatures zooming around in Betazed’s tropical seas.
Kivik: Hmm... That’s interesting.
Keehani briefly turned to at the J’naii science officer, before looking back at the creatures.
Sahim/Suribana/Wong: Responses
Kivik: Well, this is a very preliminary result - but I’m wondering if the reason the Angels are difficult to detect is that they are actively blending in with their surroundings. ::Excitedly clarifying:: Not, mind you, in a visual sense - but on a molecular level. They seem to absorb simple molecules from the gasses they eat and incorporate them into their epidermic structures! ::To Suribana:: What do you make of this, Doctor?
Sahim/Suribana/Wong: Responses
Keehani: So does that mean they’re basically transparent from ship sensors?
Sahim/Suribana/Wong/Kivik: Responses
Keehani:
Then what is it that attracts them to vessels?
Sahim/Suribana/Wong/Kivik: Responses
Keehani: Well, you’ll get to find out, because-
Keehani jumped back a little bit when one of the creatures “smooshed” their face against the front window of the scout.
Her concerned face turned into a smile.
Keehani: -because there’s a handful of them on their way to visit us.
A second Angel playfully smashed its face into the window of the scout.
The sound of several bangs could be heard as the small breakaway Angels kept smashing against the scout.
She craned her neck again to see if she could count just exactly how many there were that were taking an interest in
Yosemite. She jumped, then giggled in shock when one rapidly made its way past the front window at pace, before she watched it loop and head to the back of the scout.
A few seconds later, there was another loud *thud*.

Ukinix: =/\= We’ve arrived at the Posedion asteroid, with a who group of those mo-mo’s in tow, and we saw that you were out and about.
What’s your status? =/\=
Wong: =/\= Response =/\=
Ukinix: =/\= “Mo-mo’s”, you know, the creatures.
It’s what the mining crews call them.
You found any? =/\=
Wong:

Ukinix: =/\= Sorry, who? =/\=
Wong: =/\= Response =/\=
Keehani: =/\= Commander Ukinix, we have begun diplomatic discussions with the Hawlats.
The creatures, the “Angels”, are sacred to them. =/\=
Ukinix: =/\= ::biting bottom lip:: …oh crap.
That complicates things. =/\=
Keehani: =/\= ::Clearing throat:: Just letting you know, that we have a member of the Hawlat delegation on board our scout now, Commander. =/\=
Wong: =/\= Responses =/\=
Ukinix: =/\= Understood.
Oh, and Lieutenant? They seem to like small amounts of vented plasma.
Ukinix out. =/\=
Keehani crossed her arms and gave Sahim her best smile.
oO Well this just possibly got a lot more awkward. Oo
