((Cafeteria, Amity Outpost))
Esma: I am in need of a roommate after my previous one was reassigned away from Amity. I have reviewed 109 personnel files, and you are among the upper 50th percentile of my preferred candidates.
S. Richards: Oh! Wow, that's a lot of files to go through.
Esma: While I have enjoyed the company of my fellow junior officers, I find their behavior and odors at times to be exhausting.
Both the young girl and the prospective roommate shared a small laugh, which Esma found interesting. She'd observed that humans found certain smells and sounds, particularly those expelled from the body, humorous.
She hoped though that Samantha Richards' humor came from observation and not production herself.
Esma: Would you consider becoming my roommate?
S. Richards: ::Shrugging and nodding her head:: That’s definitely a possibility!
Esma: Perhaps we could discuss my proposal while consuming pizza.
Molly: Ooh! Yes, yes!
The girl grabbed Richards and led her towards a replicator.
S. Richards: Sounds like a plan.
Esma nodded and followed the pair over to the replicator, and the girl stared at the panel for several seconds.
Molly: I don’t know if I have a favourite pizza…
S. Richards: I don’t have a favorite because all pizza is good pizza. But I’m thinking of something with pineapple. Good old fashioned Hawaiian pizza.
"All pizza is good pizza." Esma made a note of that fact for future reference.
Molly: Ooh! Thats a good choice. I might have that too.
Esma: I shall try this Hawaiian delicacy as well.
S. Richards: Awesome! It’s funny. A lot of people would disagree on pineapple on pizza being a good choice.
The Vulcan/Romulan raised an eyebrow, curious as to why that would be.
Esma: Why is that? If "all pizza is good pizza," then logically all choices are good choices, are they not?
But before Richards could answer, the young girl had already replicated the pizza and pulled it from the replicator. Esma felt a tug on her wrist and looked over to see Molly holding her, pulling her in the direction of a table.
Molly: Come on!
As they sat down, Esma observed the dish that had been placed in front of her.
Of course she was familiar with pizza. It was a common staple of late nights at the academy dorms. That said, this particular combination of ingredients was not one she'd encountered often during her studies.
S. Richards: So Esma, I’m curious about what kind of criteria you had in picking a suitable roommate.
Her prospective roommate took the slice of pizza into her hands and then proceeded to enjoy a savory bite. Judging by her facial expression, Richards seemed to find the replicator's reproduction satisfactory.
Esma: I first eliminated all other prospective roommates with a similar vocal cadence and olfactory profile as Lieutenants Moore and Blackwood.
Obviously, Esma didn't have a complete olfactory profile of every prospective roommate on the roster, but she made some well-thought out deductions.
Molly: Response
Esma: Next, I decided that I would prefer to use the opportunity that Amity Outpost offers for me to have a roommate with a person not affiliated with Starfleet. Finally, I narrowed my choices by age, gender, and environmental needs to find those that closer match mine.
S.Richards: That makes sense. Well I’m glad I ranked high on your list ::chuckling::
To be clear, Richards ranked number 27 on her list. However, candidates 1-26 either did not return her messages or explicitly told her to stop contacting them. She thus decided to take a different approach with candidate 27 and confront her directly.
Esma: ::nods:: Yes. Higher.
Molly: Response
S. Richards: I’d assume we’d set some ground rules. I can be pretty particular when it comes to my living space.
Esma took a slice of pizza for herself and looked back at Richards.
Esma: Naturally. I am prepared to accept your terms.
Molly: Response
S. Richards: Well in that case I’d like to formally accept your invitation as a roommate.
Richards smiled as she extended a hand out towards Esma, and the Vulcan/Romulan reached out to return the traditional handshake.
Esma: Thank you, Ms. Richards. How do you prefer to be addressed?
S. Richards: Response
Molly: Response
Esma looked over at Molly to see how the young girl was finding the pizza.
Esma: Where do you live in the Habitat Ring?
Molly: Response
Esma turned back to Richards.
Esma: Our next step is to make a request for an apartment. We should select a neighborhood. There are several based on Earth cities as well as other places in the Federation and beyond. Do you have a preference?
S. Richards: Response
