Zakrem: You need to give the order for us to get involved on the ground Sir. ::looking at Taelon:: Or we need to hold to our mandate of observation.
Taelon was getting lost, frankly, in the sea of voices. But Zakrem’s calmer, more stoic tone was helpful; he leaned towards the man instinctively.
Taelon: You’re, um, right. I…
Zakrem: I am not saying we do not need to give them all the tools in the world but I am saying need to tamp down our interference. That line is rapidly approaching.
Moore: Response
Zakrem: General if your plan is to meet them in the field then do it. Engage if they engage. That is the right way to handle this. From there it becomes standard engagement rules. Fight how the Zumardi have always fought.
Taelon rubbed his face, head hurting. They still didn’t have time to waffle, but - the Zumardi computers would have to do. They could give them the cyberwarfare technique, but not execute it themselves.
Taelon: Alright. Alright - Moore, no e-war suite. Get one of the Zumardi’s computer terminals, and we will see what they can, um, do.
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Taelon: Zakrem is, um, right. We are here to advise. Not to - not to do things on our own. And, um, I don’t want to lose my career. So - Moore, tell Iko not to activate the suite, not until we get an order to, um, do that. And hope she doesn’t launch those torpedoes…
Moore had seemed strangely blase to the idea of getting court martialed, but Taelon had lost his place in Starfleet once already, and it hadn’t been a vacation. He didn’t want to go through that again.
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Taelon: General, your comms network and orbitals should be, um, capable of producing the effect we - I mean, an effect that would help you. An EMP tuned for their systems would delay them, at the very, um, least….
The scans ARIA was sending through his uplink showed the dropships starting to slow. Before he could wonder why, the comms opened, and Robin’s voice came through, only just audible over the noise of the ELZ at first, then growing clearer as people stopped to listen.
Hopper: =/\= This is Captain Robin Hopper, of the USS Kepler to all people now present in the Zumaris system. With support from the United Federation of Planets' Diplomatic Corps and Starfleet, representatives of the Zumardi High Council and the United Alliance of Worlds have met and conducted negotiations for a ceasefire in the current conflict. While these conditions are temporary, and will require continued negotiations between all parties in good faith, your people have already shown that this kind of collaboration is possible, despite your history... =/\=
Taelon didn’t say anything at first, but he slumped - with relief, in this case - against the nearby computer terminal. A ceasefire. Thank the universe, or any gods that might have helped. He’d even thank the Q at this point.
Taelon: A ceasefire…
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Hopper: =/\= The Zumardi High Council have agreed to share their research on the pathogen that is now affecting the UAW's ships and crews. Our scientists are close to synthesizing a cure, and we've found a technical solution that should render the virus inert... With the Zumardi's help, I'm confident we will be able to provide aid that will stop this pathogen in its tracks and prevent further loss of life. ::A brief pause:: The Alliance has made concessions as well. Captain Ertmo, of the Astrofleet's flagship, Enterprise, has ordered the arrest of Admiral Mokto, until diplomatic talks have reached their conclusion. Under his authority, the Federation is now doing exactly that... =/\=
Taelon could really only hope that was all the case. He remained leaning on the terminal, finding himself coming down from the tight tension as on the scans the blips of the dropships stopped, then began to rise.
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Taelon: We’ve had, um, very lucky timing. But I’ll - it’s still good.
Hopper: =/\= Admiral Mokto is now in our custody, in accordance with Alliance law... Captain Ertmo, representative To Ar'a'Dal, I'd like to invite you now, along with First Secretary Aitas of the Federation Diplomatic Corps and Captain Nicolette Ashwood of Starfleet, to speak to the ceasefire agreement that has been negotiated and to call on your people to stop military action immediately. =/\=
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Hopper: =/\= What was accomplished here today was just the first step in a long road to mutual respect. But the first steps have been taken... Great civilizations – those that value peace, prosperity, and equity for all – are founded on these kinds of agreements. The Federation is proof of that. Now, I hope that you will allow us to support you as your worlds find your own path to that... greater understanding. =/\=
Zakrem/Moore/Byu’I’Vera: Response
Taelon stopped his lean on the console, adjusting his uniform back to smooth and proper. Having made himself presentable, he stood to his full height and saluted Byu’I’Vera.
Taelon: General…thank you for your, well, understanding. And, um, good luck. Peace isn’t easy, but so, um, so long as it’s a shared goal, it can be achieved.
