She reached down, removing her shoes and rolling up the legs of her trousers as she slowly walked into the shallows as the waves lapped up the beach. She took a slow breath and enjoyed the feeling of the water across her feet looking out over the water. She looked down at the water, her hair falling over her shoulder from the ponytail she had it in. She kicked at the reflection before she looked away. Something would fill the hole. She just had to work out what.
The water was cool against her skin helping her to find the balance between hope for the future and frustration that she hadn’t figured it out yet. A voice broke her from her trance.
Moore: Afternoon. How’s the water today?
Nevark: ::Turning abruptly:: Oh hello. The water is lovely. What brings you here? Looking for some space from everything?
Layla internally kicked herself, the emotions rolling off him weren’t that of someone seeking her out for counselling. She really needed to switch off for a moment. She closed her mind to the emotions as she listened to his response.
Moore: I’m just on patrol, and you’re a new face, so I figured I would stop on by and say hello.
Layla walked towards him smiling as she exited the water.
Nevark: Lieutenant Layla Nevark, pleasure to meet you.
Moore: Pleasure to meet you. Lieutenant Kaito Moore. You’re the new counselor, and you were on the Uwezo mission. How are you liking everything so far?
Layla was taken aback slightly at the fact Kaito seemed to know more about her than she had expected.
Nevark: Oh, it's nice. I mean, the people I have met so far have been nice but it’s been a lot of work and little balance on those interactions so far. But that's probably my own fault.
Moore: Response
Layla chuckled slightly.
Nevark: My own fault because I have been focused on getting my space set up right and then the Uwezo Mission and then a few appointments. I just need to make sure I make the time to have friends here. What about you? I assume you have friends here?
Layla wanted to scream at asking him a question like that. Was it really that hard to turn off the work brain with new people? Maybe this was what she was missing, just being able to stop working for a moment and enjoy her time. It was moments like this that she missed Tyler, Tyler got her out of her head and maybe that is what she needed right now. Not that she wanted a relationship until she had figured herself out but a friend at the very least would be nice.
Moore: Response.
Nevark: Sorry it’s just very different here from what I have done before. It’s taking some adjusting, including apparently how I speak to people. Can I start again? ::taking a breath:: Hi I am Layla the new counselor, it's lovely to meet you.
Moore: Response
