(OOC: I missed Wong’s tags in my last sim – apologies, Mr Wong!  This is a repost of sorts that includes all latest + Wongs missed tags, but decided to do this from Keehani Ukinix’s point of view for something different)

((Chief of Mission's Office, Amity Outpost, two weeks before Amity Expo 2399))

Keehani’s fingers were flying over the PADD she held in her hand.  As the official note taker, she had to quieten her mind to ensure she was capturing everything that everyone was saying.

Wong
: Would it be possible to refresh us on the nature of this race in space itself? It is our biggest attraction. I feel like we should have some details on that.

Ukinix: Yep, can do.  When Voyager came through the Delta Quadrant, its custom-built auxiliary craft participated in something called the
Antarian Trans-stellar Rally.  The ships in the race were small scout ships that ran on enriched deuterium fuel.  That’s evolved as racing class since then, beyond Antarian space.  We’ll be hosting the first annual Antarian class Amity Trans-Nebula Rally.  We’ve had several species lodge entrance petitions; they’ll need to be assessed to ensure they meet class guidelines.  Astrometric are finalising a 2.1-billion-kilometre course as we speak.

Reade: Ah, yes you mean the Delta Flyer?

Bec: Good old Voyager. ::smile::

Paarus: ::quietly to Bec:: Was that the shuttle that broke the warp 10 barrier?

Carter: Yeah. Heard that it turned the crew into amphibians or something like that...

There was a lot of sentimentality in the words, and the emotions of people in the room that she was sensing.  She made a mental not to look into Voyeger more and work out why that was.

Wong: Science booths aside, do we have anything else going on here in the station itself? Also, is there anything else you need from me?

Ukinix: You might want to consider having a medical team dedicated and ready for the racers.  We can use a couple of our auxiliary craft as roving ambulances on race day if necessary.

Suribana: On that regard, I’ve looked into this and given the number of expected participants I’ve made a list of personnel, divided in groups of three members to have three teams ready to be deployed on those vehicles to attend to any emergency during the race. It’ll also be good if those emergency crafts are going behind the race participants at a safe distance to not interfere nor being affected by any dangerous zone they travel through unless is required for medical assistance. I’ve estimated that a distance of about two light seconds should be enough.

Keehani: Ambassador, may I suggest you and senior personnel give Mr Summerside of the Briori sun and Miss Ri'zella of the FNS an Expo exclusive of some sort.  With so many Delta Quadrant species involved in the race, it may be good exposure for the Federation, especially on Briori.

Orrey: Mister Iovianus did bring Summerside to my attention recently I plan on speaking to him very soon.

Daniels: Mr Summerside does seem rather interesting. I can’t quite pin whether his journalism style will be tabloidesque or not

Keehani, while still taking notes, just smiled and said one word.

Keehani: ::Nodding, looking down at PADD:: Tabloidesque.

Vataix: Response

Ariadust: I do have a concern. There was quite a bit of sabotage at the last rally. We'll want some kind of neutral observers, or security protocols that they'll accept as not benefiting us.

Iko: Perhaps a security checkover and test flight if each craft? With a starfleet officer as a witness if anything goes wrong?

Kivik: You can’t mean anyone would risk others’ safety to win a race…?

Ariadust: ::deadpan:: Of course they'll try to sabotage and cheat. Everyone does at races. It's the second rule, behind the first one: no one cheats, or sabotages anyone else, honest. It never happened at the 2380 Betazed Sector Fire Nebula Rally. Never.

That made Keehani’s ears prick up.  Betazed, the planet where truth was paramount, was home to cheating?  That made her shudder a little.

Iko: So... perhaps we can relax with security for this a tad??

Reade: Well, there is no way in preventing a problem, but I do have an idea that could mitigate that?

Iko: Well, shoot.

Paarus: Terminal B will need to be secured. ::making more notes on his PADD:: I can work with you Bec on the details of the security plan. At the very least we can try to mitigate the problem as much as possible.

Carter: You think we could use another starship? Captain Radannah of the SCE will be relatively close. Maybe you could ask them to swing by, Ambassador?

Iovianus: I think announcing some immediate pre-race checks may cut back on things or at least make them think it through more.

Wong: Well, I think these are all fantastic ideas.

Keehani: I agree. Cheating?  ::Knowing look at Rivi:: Unbelievable.

Vataix/Ariadust/Kivik: Response

Reade: We could do something similar to how some old 20th-century races were done. After the practice session was completed, the race cars were kept in a condition called Parc fermé, this meant that the cars were stored in a secure area and teams were not able to complete repairs. We could move all the spacecraft into a secure shuttle bay and post-security to watch the ships till race day?

Iko: I believe we can get that to work...Good idea Scotty.

Paarus: That is a good idea. Once race participants are docked in Terminal B they shouldn't be allowed access until the race starts.

Carter: That makes perfect sense...

Iovianus: Which means they will complain about not being able to tinker with their engines.

Daniels: As long as we present this clearly I would expect complaints to be less, especially if it is clearly displayed that no one gets through so no favoritism can be called for.

Wong: But considering that sabotage can take many forms, the last thing we need is injured racers.

Ukinix: As an option we can always free up section Delta in the shuttlebay for parc fermé.  We’ll need to ensure it’s secure once ships are in there.

Keehani corrected herself a few times in her notes, unsure of the spelling.  oO “Park firm-a”?  “Park firmay”? Oo

Daniels/Vataix/Ariadust/Kivik: Response

Reade: I see. I can take a further look into the matter. I will also get the 2nd generator prepared.

Kivik: Sounds like you’ve got even more work coming your way then!

Iko: Good luck. At least this mission your placed in the deep end, not thrown.

Paarus: Indeed. I am going to need that list of expected attendants, Kivik.

Carter: It would be good to have an advanced list , just in case...

Daniels: I have some communications with delegations, I can help compile the list.

Vataix/Ariadust/Kivik/Wong
: Response

Iko: I have a mild concern for the science fair thing too. Some of these discoveries or showcases could have dangerous substances or the like, such as... I don't know, unstable warp plasma or something. Should we do a banned list of sorts?

Carter: I think that would be prudent instead of someone blowing a hole in the hull...

Suribana: Excuse me if I’m not so into Starfleet security protocols for this kind of events, but I understand that before accepting people bringing strange items and devices, a preliminary check of what they’re bringing will be made, even if it’s a report of what they intend to do during the fair.

Kivik: I definitely understand the safety concern that hazardous materials could present – however, I hesitate to support any ‘bans’. We have the resources necessary to review each proposed booth and assess for safety. I’d be happy to do this with Bec and Zal – err, Ensign Iko and Ensign Paarus’ input and prepare a report for you, Commander Carter, and First Secretary Ukinix. We can then determine if any proposals simply aren’t safe enough.

Paarus: Sounds good. ::To Kivik and Bec:: A list should be easy enough to compile and we can perhaps get an idea of booth layout to ensure we have decent traffic and aren't creating any choke points on the mezzanine.

Carter/Iko: Response

Vataix: Response

Suribana: On my end it shouldn’t be any problem as we’ll be working with data, but not any live test on microorganisms, but computer simulations at most.

Kivik: I believe Dr. Suribana represents the majority here. I don’t think we have too many participants hoping to show off their unstable warp plasmas – but, if it helps alleviate the risk, we are also able to erect emergency force fields in the Mezzanine or perform emergency transports, if there should be any sort of containment concern. ::Raising both hands in reassurance:: But, again, I don’t think we’ll face that sort of problem if we vet the proposals.

Iovianus: We still will take the precautions.

Wong: And for those of us here who are doing demonstrations and the like, I think we know better not to bring anything hazardous that we may not wish the general public to interact with.

Daniels: I agree, bans might send the wrong message to the delegations that we deem ourselves able to pass a blanket ban on things when really we are showing we are assessing safety instead and setting it up in a way that enables as many experiments and presentations as possible.

Vataix/Ariadust/Carter/Alexandrov
: Response

Suribana: Also, I haven’t had a chance to talk this with the Chief here, but are we gonna do some kind of medical check on the attendants? We can have the actual population of Amity vaccinated for the flu, but that many newcomers at the same time could pose a biological risk.

Wong: That’s true. We are introducing the Delta Quadrant to our corner of the DQ and we may end up experiencing things that might be more on the exotic side of things. I think we could look into measures in protecting attendees and our regulars here on the station.

Kivik: Is there any risk in performing vaccinations on species which are less familiar to the Federation? I recall that when we treated my Levodian Flu, the records on J’naii were quite sparse. We may encounter similar problems with some of our resident Delta Quadrant species as well.

Wong: We do have an active database of species on hand. That said, we don’t have everyone from the Quadrant in the database. Some of those cases we’re going to have to handle on a case by case basis. We should be able to have a solid plan in place by the time the expo arrives.

Daniels: Would it be possible to ask them for willingness to be scanned before any vaccinations? I would assume they would be willing to if they are willing to get vaccinated.

Keehani: I recall from university, a legal case in Earth’s pre-warp history of a professional sportsperson refusing to get vaccinated before entering another part of Earth.  They somehow got in, but went through a legal process to try and bypass it when they were told to leave.  We may want delegates show proof of vaccination before they enter Amity, or offer them the opportunity.

Vataix/Ariadust/Carter/Wong/Alexandrov: Response

Suribana: My conference is scheduled out of my duty shifts so I’ll be available for my duties.

Kivik: Oh! That reminds me. If any of you are interested – or if you know anyone else in your departments who might be interested – in helming a booth at the Expo yourself, or contributing to our speaker series, there are a few spots left. We might as well fill our capacity, if we can! Just let me know and I can work you into the schedule.

Ukinix: I’m happy to do a speaker session on the weather control system we designed for Donova IV.

Ukinix: oO Once an engineer, always an engineer. Oo

Keehani smiled at Wil’s thought that she heard.  He was excitable about technology at times.

Paarus: I am not going to have time to put together a presentation, but I would like to attend a few sessions as I have time. ::to Kivik:: I'm adding a note to our discussion topics for later to get a speaker schedule put together for distribution. ::to Dr. Orrey:: Once we have that schedule, should we work with you or this Mr. Summerside for press distribution? Who was that contact for the FNS?

Orrey:
Response

Any:
Response

Paarus:
Understood. ::to Dr. Orrey:: Yes, I will make sure to run all communications about the Expo through official channels.

Keehani could sense a feeling of Zal being overwhelmed, and decided to instantly alert Rivi to it (if she didn’t notice already).

Keehani: ::Telepathically to Rivi:: ~~ Zal seems overwhelmed, Ambassador. ~~

Vataix: ~~ Response ~~

Wong: There is one more thing. I brought it up during Kivik’s meeting but it is worth bringing up again - while Amity in general is a safe place, I did have an encounter with criminals while rescuing a fellow officer.

Any: Response

Wong: Given that this event is bringing everyone of all stripes over from the Quadrant, I kind of don’t want to be chased around by unsavory individuals again while treating patients.

Keehani: It’s not as if we can do background checks on everyone that enters Amity.  That would take time, and we don’t have any sort of partnerships with Delta Quadrant worlds just yet.  But a questionnaire might be an option.

Any: Response

Ikaia drummed his fingers on his chin.

Wong: I mean that is a possibility. Would you mind expanding upon that?

Keehani: You know.  As part of coming aboard Amity, we could have a form that asks questions like, “Have you been refused entry to any other star systems”, “do you have any history of criminal activity in the last 5 years in any jurisdiction”, questions like that.

Any: Response
