((Robin Hoopers Apartment, Beijing District - 0945 hours))
((Alrighty, I put this together from a bunch of different emails. I'm 99% sure I caught all the tags, but if I missed you, bop me in the head and I'll correct))
In setting up Robin's apartment as their makeshift Ops, Kaito had abruptly shoved her couch to one side. Saavei couldn't fault his efficiency as he began removing wall panels and deck plating, exposing the necessary connections. The Vulcan was certain the First Officer would forgive anything they could not put to rights before her return. Emergencies were emergencies. Otherwise, as the lowest ranking officer on the Engineering Team, Saavei would simply plan on spending a good amount of time restoring the quarters.
Charlena was kneeling down, busy at her work.
Vanlith: How are we looking with set up? Is power confirmed at the other terminals? Just finishing this one.
Moore: Running the last of the cables now!
Kaito said as he hooked up an EPS line, a light hum coming from the charged conduit of high-energy plasma, before unrolling the line towards Char’s console.
Rosek-Skyfire: I've checked all the algorithms and everything should line up and function like it's supposed to.
Saavei: Power levels are functioning within parameters. ::checking her PADD:: Yes, acceptable ranges.
Char didn’t look up as she made the final connections and then rose up checking the screen as the terminal came online. A familiar hum of mechanics coming to life filled the room.
A multitude of terminals interconnected and spaced out, some near walls, one on the kitchen counter, and a couch was used as seating near a portable MSD. A holo projector displayed a faux viewscreen on the apartment’s windows.
Kaito went to the terminal designated for station security and started typing away.
Vanlith: This one is all good.
Moore: And I am seeing a solid connection to the station’s computer core. Speed isn’t as fast as Ops, but given the lack of networking traffic with everyone gone, we should be golden.
Saavei saw Kaito plug a chip into a data slot and continue working.
Rosek-Skyfire: Jury-rigged systems never seem to work quite as good as the original. Besides which, I don't believe residential quarters were designed for this sort of power. We'll have to be careful.
Vanlith: We can check that we remain below the thresholds, but it will have to be watched closely; otherwise, we’re going to be battling overloads here, and that’s not going to be ideal, to say the least.
Saavei gave their setup a quick scan with the tricorder that was part of her engineering kit.
Saavei: Thus far, power levels are steady but I concur; this area was not designed to draw the amount of power we are likely to utilize. I imagine it is too late to obtain portable generators. oO Where would we even put them? Oo
Saavei's train of thought was interrupted as comm badges chirped and the doctor's voice sounded over them.
Wong: =/\=Aloha? This is Lieutenant Wong. I’m going to be on my way up with some hypos of lectrazine-hyronalyn and a portable replicator.=/\=
Rosek-Skyfire: ::taps her combadge:: =/\=Acknowledged, Doctor. I assume Doctor Skyfire left behind the instructions for my injection?=/\=
Vanlith: We can prepare a transporter beam here. Buy us some more time instead of waiting.
Saavei: ::tapping her PADD:: Re-directing power to enhance pattern buffers...
Wong: =/\=Please no transporters. I’m not exactly keen to have my body scattered to the four corners of the Outpost if we have a mishap.=/\=
Vanlith: ::quietly to herself:: Or not I guess.
Saavei: ::tapping her PADD again:: Returning power levels to previous state.
Wong: =/\=I tend to file transporter accidents on the list of things in space that kind of want you dead.=/\=
Lael shook her head. Saavei thought Charlena looked mildly annoyed but the other woman didn't say anything.
Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= Fair enough. =/\=
Saavei: ::To herself, more than likely:: In fairness, Lieutenant Wong did display remarkable climbing skills on Uwe II.
Saavei didn't envy him having to do that through the entire Outpost, if he was foregoing the transporter.
Wong: =/\=Uh…. Question? How stable are the turbolifts right now? Because right now, there’s one between me and you.=/\=
The lights dimmed slightly on the Battle Bridge before returning to normal. No doubt the first waves of the stormfront were hitting the station.
Char looked through the terminal screen pulling up the lift functionality.
Vanlith: =/\= Looks good to use. =/\=
Saavei: No malfunctions detected. That may change soon.
Wong: =/\=AHHH!!! STARS!!!=/\=
Char moved to join Kaito's terminal and looked at the screen.
Saavei raised her eyebrow curiously. oO Why would Wong be seeing stars? Oo. She did a quick check over at the security terminal to make sure radiation wasn't sneaking in yet.
Wong: =/\=Sorry. It’s one of Orrey’s stupid vole—er— weasel things jumped out at me. You know it occurs to me that I don’t think we ever settled on a proper name for these things yet. But anyways, side note - we have a rodent problem. Apparently, some of them made their way to engineering.=/\=
Moore: =/\= Those aren’t the conduit-eating kind, are they? =/\=
Vanlith: ::Looking at Lael::. If so we are going to have issues if they get into engineering properly. They will cause this place to shut down if they chew the wrong conduit. But it has the highest energy reading for them to want to feast from.
Saavei: If they sever the conduits leading to our makeshift Ops level here, we will likely be unable to restore control before the storm arrives.
Rosek-Skyfire: ::frowns:: =/\= There's different kinds?=/\=
Wong:
=/\=These are absolutely the conduit-eating kind.=/\=
Moore: =/\= Well, have we tried shooting them? I am seeing a few more around you, and we really don’t need anything chewing on the EPS relays or causing a fire.=/\=
Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= Shooting them may not be the best option, depending on how many there are. Is there possibly a way to put them to sleep without putting the lieutenant to sleep? Induce hibernation or something? Or we can just beam them somewhere else where they will be less trouble? =/\=
Char spun back to her terminal.
Vanlith: Isolating a spot but unless we can beam all of them and find them all it may not make a lot of difference, we currently know the location of one of them.
Saavei: =/\= Strongly recommend against weapons fire near sensitive systems.=/\= ::then to Moore:: Lieutenant, perhaps it would be easier to flood that level with anesthizine, while we still have the power to do so?
They could be quickly gathered then, so they wouldn't perish when the storm hit. Vermin though they may have been, the Vulcan couldn't blame animals for doing what came natural to them. That sentiment aside, they could not be allowed to eat Main Engineering.
Wong:
=/\=I’m a medical officer, NOT the chief of security, Moore!=/\=
Rosek-Skyfire: =/\= Whatever we're going to do, we need them someplace where they're not going to cause damage that we just don't have time to fix. We can't afford to lose any power right now. We need everything we've got. =/\=
Vanlith: One of the Cargo Holds in the shipping and customs department, we transport this one there and then find the others?
Saavei: It would contain them for the moment and we would know where they are, before they could escape once more.
Moore: Response
Wong: =/\=If anyone has any ideas, I’d like to hear them right now!=/\=
Rosek-Skyfire: ::to Vanlith:: What do you think? Will it work without turning us into sitting ducks?
Char typed away at the console.
Vanlith: They have unique enough bio-signatures to run an internal transport of just those bio-signatures to the cargo hold. They can eat until they are stuffed there off the metal and we can deal with repairs and damages later but they shouldn’t be able to impact main systems unless they somehow get out again.
Saavei: Believe we would still have enough power to utilize the gas and prevent them from leaving the cargo hold.
Moore: Response
Char nodded and began to type away.
Vanlith: =/\= Confirm the weasel is gone and you are still in the turbo lift? =/\=
Wong: =/\=They are NOT gone! Definitely NOT gone!=/\=
Char let out a slow breath.
Saavei: One must respect their tenaciousness, if nothing else. However I believe it would be a tragedy if Lieutenant Wong were to be devoured by Voles. Re-directing power to internal sensors...
The lights flickered again in "Ops". The EPS conduits hadn't liked that very much.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
Wong: =/\=They really don’t like me very much!=/\=
Char began to work again this time isolating the bio-signature and running as detailed a scan of amity she could afford to run right now. It wasn’t going to be perfect and she didn’t know how many signatures she was looking for but this was the best she could do with the resources she had.
Vanlith: =/\= Preparing mass transport of the bio-signatures to the cargo hold. =/\= ::to Saavei and Moore:: Can you make sure the turbolift is running and check that the cargo hold is locked down?
Saavei tapped a few icons on her PADD, then took her position back by one of the Engineering terminals they'd set up.
Saavei: Turbolifts are... ::her brow furrowed a moment as she worked for a three-count ::... running. There is a parasitic power drain on the system, I believe from the storm. I cannot maintain them for long.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
Wong: =/\=You’re doing what?!=/\=
Char continued to work whilst the others spoke. She typed away and finally was able to send what she could only hope was all the weasels to cargo hold.
Vanlith: Transport complete, did I get them all? Do we even know how many there should be there?
Saavei: I am unsure. Their social behaviors while hunting Lieutenant Wong would suggest they would all be in close proximity, however.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire: Response
Wong: =/\=I’m in the turbolift and on my way…..=/\=
Saavei: =/\= Recommend you proceed directly, Lieutenant. Turbolifts will not be functional for long. =/\=
The lights flickered again.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith: Response
Wong: =/\=Dear sweet zombie Spock….. You’re not going to believe this….=/\=
Saavei: ::clearly confused, looking to the others:: Dear sweet zombie Spock?... I am concerned the doctor may be suffering from radiation poisoning if he is seeing the ambulatory corpse of Ambassador Spock.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith: Response
Wong: =/\=I managed to get a scan of those creatures and I can say that this is the most… uh…. Cursed combination of DNA I have ever seen. I see tribble, Cardassian vole, and a third unknown species.=/\=
Saavei: oO Another strange turn of phrase... Oo
Saavei listened as Wong spoke, however. Tribble, Cardassian Vole, and a third species? There was no doubt some scientific curiosity which could be indulged in ascertaining how those unions had come to be. For the moment, however, she would be content if their risk was contained.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith: Response
Saavei looked back to her console once more as an alarm tone began to sound.
Saavei: Turbolifts are failing. Reading disruptions in the power supply. Lieutenant Vanlith, are you able to compensate?
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith/Wong: Response
The corners of Saavei's mouth turned downward. It was less about a lack of power and more about the flow being stopped. As if some space rodent had built a dam and was now interfering with the smooth operation of the Outpost. Given the presence of Wong's Voles, the analogy may have been spot-on. She couldn't visually inspect it now.
Saavei: =/\= Lieutenant Wong, we are attempting to keep the lift operational. Power is intermittent. If you remove the maintenance panel in the lift, you may be able to augment power with your scanner battery =/\=
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith/Wong: Response
Saavei: We may need to transport him if this does not work. I would rather apologize for scrambling his atoms than have him risk exposure to the radiation.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith/Wong: Response
Saavei: Thirty-two percent degradation in power supply.
Moore/Rosek-Skyfire/Vanlith/Wong: Response
