((Shuttle, Edge of the Nuriootpa solar nebula, Delta Quadrant))

Aurelio had run through the breathing exercise three full times as his shuttle drew close to the USS Glacier. It wasn't that he'd never had to deal with Betazoid House matriarchs, who could be nearly as intimidating as his own great-grandmother, but after his wedding and the initial burst of associated gossip he'd largely been left to the sort of work he favored. Whether it was helping patients recover from injuries, building a family, or just brewing Jalara Fire, there were a great many things on Betazed that benefited most from the same tasks repeated over days, months, and years.

He brushed a loose strand of blonde hair back from his face, careful not to smudge his ja'risia in the process.

The console chimed, and the face of the Mother Perennial of the Eleventh House appeared on the viewscreen before him.

Vataix: =/\= Dr. Igre, this is Mother Rivi Vataix of the Eleventh House of Betazed. =/\=

Igre: =/\= It is a pleasure, Mother Vataix. I have a package for you. =/\=

Vataix: =/\= Please dock in the shuttle bay and come to the bridge at once. =/\=

Igre: =/\= On my way =/\=

A simple enough task, but the logs he carried had started to feel heavier with every moment. It made him wish that he had Fureri to carry them, but no doubt his the little fox bot was off hauling sensitive records around in whatever extremely secure office his mother had found for herself.

((Bridge - USS Glacier))

Aurelio hadn't been on the bridge of such a ship in years. Perhaps it was that he'd traveled enough in his youth, or perhaps, as his children said, it was that he'd gotten old and boring.

He'd admit to boring. Old could be left to people who were more than a quarter of the way through their expected lifespan.

The crew intermingled on the bridge was an odd mixture. There were a few faces that seemed just a little familiar, but it had been a very long time.

Vataix: Welcome to the Glacier, doctor. Allow me to introduce many of the former crew of Amity Outpost: Nathan Richards, Robin Hopper, Keehani Ukinix, Wil Ukinix, and John Carter. We also have with us here Alexis Hopper and Amara Reade.

Ukinix: ::Polite nod:: Hello, doctor. We appreciate you helping us.

Richards/Hopper/A. Hopper/Carter: Response

A. Reade: ::nodding head::  Hello Doctor, welcome.

Keehani: *If* you can trust an inbred from the Fourth House--

Aurelio had been called a few things in his life, but inbred was a new one. Usually it was snide remarks about the breadth of his heritage, or how the Seventh House hadn't bothered to acknowledge his family until it was clear he was going to marry into the Fourth.

Still, as with belligerent patients, sometimes the best thing to say was nothing.

Ukinix: ::Angrily:: Keehani.

Igre: I'm glad to be able to help. Where would you like the logs?

Mother Vataix gestured to the front of the bridge, and the officer seated at the helm.

Vataix: If you could share the patrol data with Lt. Cmdr. Reade, our helm officer, we're eager to get underway.

Igre: Of course, Mother Vataix.

He promptly moved over to offer the logs to the Lieutenant Commander, which relieved Aurelio of at least one burden.

A. Reade: Thank you, Doctor, ::looking down at the console:: Course laid in, ma’am, heading there now at full speed.

((Later, approaching Amity Outpost))

The corpse of a station showed on the viewscreen before them, its surface scarred and pitted, akin to a body and yet so unlike. If what remained of the outpost was blood and rotting, it was not so visible from outside.

Vataix: Is there anyway to restore environmental systems on the station?

Ukinix: Provided primary controls are still in Engineering, then... well, Engineering.

Richards: Response

Hopper/A. Hopper/Carter: Response

A. Reade: They may be in the station's command centre, perhaps the Security centre. To be honest with you all, I am not quite sure.

Igre: According to the logs, the Lattice Alliance hasn't been had many patrols in the area of late. I couldn't say whether they believe the station too damaged for use or if they've just chosen to redirect their forces elsewhere.

Rivi nodded and then looked over at Nathan.

Vataix: Even if there haven't been recent Lattice patrols in the area, the sooner we find what we need, the better for us to get out of here.

Richards: Response

Vataix: I suggest we send several teams to the station. Survey the condition of the station and what we can find.

Richards: Response

((Away Team II, Amity Outpost, SRC, Level 9, Entrance))

Aurelio didn't have the same attachment to the station that many of the others did, but it was still a wrenching sight. Fallen beams, fractured walls, and marks upon all of it that might have been blaster scoring or long-dried blood. A fallen sign marked the area as Level 9.

The EVA suit made Aurelio feel a little clumsy, as if he were a long-limbed adolescent here hoping for a look at the medical wing. He tapped the magnetic boots on immediately; he didn't have the experience the others did and had no wish to embarrass himself.

Varati: ::turns on the team combadge:: Here we go again! ::turns her head around:: Well? Doesn't it look almost like it used to?! Well, not quite as intact and with lots of battle scars again...

Aurelio tilted his own head to evaluate their surroundings. There were a few familiar aspects to the architecture, enough that he could almost envision what it had been like before. Almost.

R. Hopper/Dakora: Response

Varati: All systems... check... are working perfectly. How about you? Oh, I almost forgot to activate the magnetic adhesive boots. ::”slupp” – stick on the floor::

That made Aurelio recheck his gear, again.

Igre: All systems functional.

R. Hopper/Dakora: Response

Varati: Big uff! ::takes a deep breath:: Reality is always a bit harsher than the best holo program. I hope the engineers can get the automatic gravity and life support systems working again and that there aren't too many leaks in the hulls. These EV suits are kind of uncomfortable…

Aurelio gave that an agreeing nod, though the gesture didn't seem to show much through the suit. He was starting to wish he'd had more time to practice for this.

R. Hopper/Dakora: Response

Varati: Oh, the marks on the walls and floor don't bode well... I don't want to know what happened here last. ::pause:: Do you have any signals? So far, all I see is junk and rubbish. ::to Robin:: Do we have a plan of where we're going first? To the intelligence rooms on the upper levels? Like together like in training, yes?

Aurelio moved to check the immediate area. Everything was covered with a pale gray dust, and the area felt dead, without no empathic background noise save for that from their team.

R. Hopper/Dakora: Response

He knelt down next to a pile of debris. The beams looked too heavy to move, but there was a desiccated Hirogen corpse tucked in behind it, arms reaching out for something no longer there. He used the wri-corder to run a quick evaluation. It only took a few seconds for it to confirm his theory.

Igre: Suffocation. Either the atmosphere leaked out slowly, or there was some sort of contaminant, and I'm not seeing any sign of the latter.

Varati/R. Hopper/Dakora: Response

Igre: While I have been informed that I'm forbidden to be an engineer, it is my understanding that smaller holes are harder to find and yet easier to repair.

Varati/R. Hopper/Dakora: Response.

He gave the battered walls around them another look. Most of the signage seemed to be missing. And a bit too much of the walls for his taste. If there was clear sign there as to what had happened he didn't have the skills to see it.

Igre: If we find more bodies and battle damage I might be able to tell something from the positioning. Anyone close to the leak would have died more quickly.

Varati/R. Hopper/Dakora: Response
