Things could have gone worse. That they also could have gone significantly better, since there was still a distinct possibility that the whole mess would turn into a hostage situation the minute the Hovans ran out of patience.
That the Hovans had allowed most of the Federation personnel said they weren’t quite escalating matters that far. Yet. Aitas could only hope that they'd taken enough care to ensure that both Keehani and Barberra didn't come back with frostbite.
For a culture that repeatedly avowed how much they wanted to be left alone, the Hovans seemed a bit too willing to make enemies. But then, the Borg expansion in the Delta Quadrant would be well within the living memory of a species with a lifespan approaching three centuries.
Aitas looked up from her console, where she’d just been finishing up adding a few more notes to her initial report. Leaving Fureri on the ship had given her a head start in that respect.
Aitas: It does seem as if there are multiple factions within the Hovan government and military with concerns about the Uwezo being aggressive or merely drawing too much attention. But we’re still lacking information on the exact divisions. And if matters with us go badly, it will just be more ammunition for them to use.
Iko: Response
Aitas: It’s possible that they’ve interfered with the Uwezo already. Especially with stealth ships involved. How secure did their facility seem?
She tapped in a set of commands, running yet another check over the communications Starfleet had seen coming from the system. If someone had wanted to engage in some quieter instigation of conflict, sending it from a stealthed vessel was one way to disguise their behavior.
Iko: Response
There was a brief chime from her combadge.
Aitas: =/\= Good to hear from you. Are we cleared to return to Hova III? =/\=
