Orrey: ::sitting forward:: For instance what is your favorite meal from Orion?
Jansen took a sip from his drink and sat it aside to listen.
Varati: So, wing-slugs are not my favourite dish. ::smiles:: You can prepare many delicious things in a fire pot. I think it's similar to a Dutch oven. Demma is very tasty. Yes, I know, the dish is said to have aphrodisiac or fertility-enhancing properties. But only if it's prepared with the right spices, so to say. Unfortunately, trading many of our items is illegal in the Federation. Otherwise, it's basically just a tasty vegetable casserole.
The doctor nodded as he listened along..
Varati: Personally, I preferred the pasta dishes from Earth. They can be combined with vegetables or meat in any way you like.
Orrey: And what about the flavor or ingredients draw you to that?
Orion food was known for the intense spice flavors outside of any sort of aphrodisiac qualities. So the conversation was enthralling.
Varati: Well, a sip of Mandisa is always welcome. Orion beer, ale, and rum aren't for everyone, either. And if you overdo it with Xiqai, well, the result is watery eyes and burning desires, included. ::giggles:: But as I said, many of the Orion spices are banned in the federation because of their effects and are officially unavailable. ::pause:: And what about you, Doctor? What do you like to eat or cook most?
Orrey: Seafood is a big part of my diet. One thing I have really gotten my wife and daughter to enjoy are Romulan Mollusks. They used to be harder to find but things have eased now.
Jansen sat back in the chair letting the conversation simmer back down into place.
Varati: That sounds like a culinary exclusivity, doesn't it? What drinks would you recommend to go with it? I mean, the whole galaxy can't always drink Chateau Picard, can it? The '86 vintage is supposed to be magnificent, but so is the price.
Orrey: ::laughing:: Don’t let Commander Ukinix hear that. His family runs a vineyard,
Varati: Then we should compile a list of interesting and delicious dishes? Perhaps we can convince the chefs at Lighthouse Restaurant to offer a Starfleet menu. ::soft chuckle:: Just an idea…
Jansen continued to look out over the balcony railing catching a side glance at D’Crya as she looked inside.
Varati: I saw that beautiful violin in the display case earlier... do you play yourself? Or is it just a decorative piece?
Jansen stood up and went back into the apartment, coming back out holding his violin in its stand with a smile.
Orrey: I do indeed. ::placing the piece on its stand on the table and pointing to the UFP emblem on the back:: I had that carved into it when I graduated from the Academy as a little reward to myself. ::he sat it on the stand again and pointed at the IDIC emblem on the front:: I got this carved into it when I was on Vulcan. Removed the chin rest so that I can feel it and remember the concept even while playing music. Infinite combinations in all ways and means.
Varati: I had no idea... I hope that wasn't too indiscreet? I never really learned to play an instrument - I guess my mother passed that talent on to my sister.
Jansen shook his head to wave off her concern.
Orrey: Not at all. You yourself have talents I am sure. What were your specializations in the Academy for instance, my own were Microbiology and Nanotechnology.
Varati: Response?
Orrey: ::chuckling::See I did my final paper on Nanotech and how the Borg might not have a bad thing on the surface. That didn’t go over well even back then, let alone after Frontier Day.
Varati: Response?
