EMH MKVII - Punchline

For once, the EMH had previously deactivated himself when he was no longer needed.  That was partially so that he didn’t read all of the T’Senara comics too quickly. oO She is a patient mistress… and so am I Oo the program had thought to himself at some point prior to his hibernation.

 

But his program had triggered automatically to activate when people had been beamed directly to sickbay.

 

He shimmered into existence, his hands by his side.  Looking ahead, he said instinctively said the words that he had virtually no control over.

 

EMH: Please state the nature of the medical emergency.

 

His eyebrows raised a little when he saw an overall wearing Lieutenant Robin Hopper standing before him, with an obvious wound to her prosthetic leg, being supported by two young casually dressed men.  He continued to speak in his relaxed, baritone voice.

 

EMH: ::Looking at Hopper’s injury::: I see… there is no need to state the nature of the medical emergency.

 

Hopper/Kiani/Moore: Response

 

EMH: Lieutenant Robin Hopper.  On one leg.  ::To Kiani and Moore:: Has anyone made the “Hopper” joke yet?

 

Hopper/Kiani/Moore: Response

 

EMH: I know nothing of neuroprosthetics. 

 

The hologram looked to the right for a moment.  His eyes flickered bright colours as the hologram’s program swiftly added the required information to help treat Robin’s injury to the EMH’s database.  A few seconds later, he looked back at the trio.

 

EMH: I do now.  ::To Moore:: What is the prognosis, Doctor.

 

Moore: Response

 

EMH: My mistake, Ensign.  Without uniforms, it is easy to confuse new faces and roles.  ::To Kiani:: What is the prognosis, Doctor.

 

Kiani: Response

 

Hopper/Moore: Response

 

The EMH reached for a nearby PADD, and tapped it a few times.

 

EMH: ::looking at PADD:: Here.  You may need this…

 

After finding on the PADD’s screen what he was looking for, he outstretched his arm to hand the PADD seemingly to Kiani…

 

… before reaching past him and handing the PADD to Lieutenant Hopper.  Sure enough, the cover of edition 128 entitled “T’Senara and the Gates of Gre’thor” was on the screen.

 

EMH: …it will help you to relax.
