((Holodeck 4, Level 10, Science and Research Center, Amity Outpost))

As a steadfast practitioner of Vulcan logic, Ychol ensured ample time in his daily schedule for ritual meditation and contemplation. This time served a vital purpose in keeping one’s mind in order, providing an opportunity to both reflect on complicated problems in a controlled mental environment, but also to focus on one’s inner self and realign any thoughts which might be straying from the path of logic.

Today, he was visiting a holodeck program which he had brought with him from the Alpha Quadrant. A recreation of an ancient temple on Vulcan which sat near the top of a desert mountain, overlooking a vast valley below. He had visited there several times – the real one – both as a child and as an adult and he had always noted the serenity that the building’s location, construction, and purpose had made possible within its halls.

At the moment, he was sitting on a woven mat on the floor with his eyes closed, contemplating issues that several of his clients had brought to him, using logic to extract the root of the issue and determine a sensible course of action one might take to remedy it… when, unexpectedly, he heard footsteps. Small footsteps.

Ychol: ::Opening his eyes slowly and spotting Molly:: Excuse me, but I have the holodeck reserved right now.

The small girl stepped back, knocking some incense over in the process. Ychol tilted his head – curious at the girl’s sudden and ungainly appearance.

Molly: Sorry... Sorry- Sorry!

She stood there looking at the fallen incense, not quite sure what to do.

Ychol: It was an accident..  ::Standing slowly and walking towards the girl::  ..and there is an easy remedy.

He picked up the toppled incense and reset it to its position. It had remained lit, despite being knocked over – though a small pile of ash had wound up on the floor.

Ychol: Computer, clean up spilled ash.

In an instant, the floor was cleared.

Ychol: There. Now it is as if nothing had happened.

It was at this moment that the Vulcan counselor-in-training observed Molly’s pointed ears. From her manner, he had initially assumed that she was human.

Ychol: I am Ensign Ychol. You have come, I expect unawares, to one of my meditation sessions… ::A pause:: …It would be logical for you to tell me who you are as well.

Molly: I'm Molly. Molly Williams. Don't tell mum I ran off again please...

Ychol: ::One eyebrow raised:: That would be quite impossible, as I do not know your mother’s identity.

Molly: Response

Ychol: Perhaps it is a favourable chance that you have come here. May I ask, are you part-Vulcan?

Molly: Response

Ychol offered a small nod. Of course, by this time there had been many Vulcan hybrids. It was a logical outcome of seeking ‘infinite diversity in infinite combinations’. He had studied with several at Starfleet Academy following his time at the Vulcan Science Academy and found their perspectives to be quite intriguing.

Ychol: Perhaps you would be interested in joining me for a short meditation, then? Have you ever engaged in meditative practice previously?

Molly: Response
