((Transporter Room, IKS ngem qul))
Moore couldn’t help but feel a tinge of nervousness as he was transported to the Klingon ship. Although the captain of the vessel was willing to speak with us, Moore couldn’t shake the feeling of an impending backstab. He only hoped the Klingon notion of honor, the same honor that drives them to fight you head-on, existed here too. Otherwise, they wouldn't even make it out of the pattern buffer, or if they did, they might rematerialize in space, or if they're lucky, in a cell. They would certainly have a reason too after our little display.
((Flashback, Bridge, U.S.S. Independence B))
The ship trembled as the Bird of Prey unleashed another barrage of phaser fire upon them.
Moore: Commander, shields have been reduced to eighty-five percent.
Ukinix: Stop being so bloody impatient. ::to crew:: Recommendations?
Carter: Fire a shot across their bow. That will give them an idea that we are a little bit more prepared for combat than they think and cause them to perhaps reevaluate the situation.
As soon as he heard the Lt. Commander say that, Moore immediately prepared to fire, and some might see it as he transferred power to the Phaser Cannon Arrays. He had the phasers ready to go, yet kept the power masked to play the part of a normal Terran transport lost in space. But now that they were being shot at, and they wanted to try to talk their way out of it, Moore dropped the power masking, putting the cannons to full power, charging up the torpedo tubes, and really letting the Indy-B’s electro plasma systems sing down in the weapons bay. But he made sure to make it very clear with the targeting sensors that this was a harmless show of power, just waiting for the order to fire if we wanted to.
((End Flashback))
Much to Moore’s relief, they reappeared on the foreign transporter pad, disruptors in their faces, and Klingons who looked just as eager to use them, but they were alive. The Klingons provided an escort to the briefing room, where the ship’s captain lay in wait.
((Briefing Room, IKS ngem qul))
The Klingon Captain drummed her fingers on the handle of her d'k tahg as she walked in a circle around the Starfleet Officers and their dark-eyed prisoner. Moore kept quiet in the meeting, for the most part. He watched closely, studying their “ally” and trying to gain an understanding of them.
M-Iko: ::gesturing to M-Rivi:: Explain to me again the need for her presence?
Ukinix: And, Daughter Ascendant Ukinix here can give us the intel we need, seeing our prisoner is a subject of the Empress. ::smirk, turns to M-Rivi:: Right, distant cousin?
M-Rivi: ::Sitting back in chair, dejected, unimpressed:: Hmmph.
Kiani: ::he slid a PADD toward M-Rivi, that displayed the Independence-B's warp coil:: We're hoping that you might be able to aid us with that. ::looking towards the Klingon 'delegation':: And of course our friends here as well. ::returning attention towards M-Rivi:: If we're able to realign our warp coils to match the signature of say a Betazoid light cruiser, then it would make travel across enemy space much safer.
That's smart; masking our signature as one of their ships was the best way to get past their lines. After all, all warfare is based on deception.
M-Rivi/Ukinix: Response
M-Iko: I expect this Betazoid warp signature will be supplied to me as well.
Kiani: It'd also be useful if we knew some of the standard call and response strategies employed by the Empire. In their communication through hyperchannel, or in replying to one-way transmissions or hails.
M-Iko: Betazoid signals are detectable, but unless you know what to look for, it's hard to obtain the message itself. The added security of telepathy also makes it a common choice for short range communication. ::to M-Rivi:: isn't that right, Daughter ascender?
M-Rivi/Ukinix: Response
Kiani: ::sighing:: Besides this, there's many other strategic aspects of our attack to consider. Which Commander Iovianus, and Ensign Moore will be going over.
Moore nodded at Kiani as he was addressed, then turned his gaze to Iko.
Moore: Despite the minor damage from the wormhole travel, tactically our battleship is armed and fully operational.
Iovianus: Response
Ukinix: Response?
M-Iko: We must also appear to be working alone.
Moore glanced towards the Commander and Iovianus. That was more a question for them than him, but he was already thinking about how such arrangements could impact the operational effectiveness of their little battlegroup.
Ukinix/Iovianus/Kiani/M-Rivi: response
M-Iko: The best option will be to attack the nearby planet "Krilow". Once we take it, it will be converted to a base for the Alliance in this sector to keep the Betazoids at bay.
Moore: I take it you'll be using warriors from the other mining vessels. Taking a planet is no small feat—the landings are dangerous, any fighting in an urban environment favors the defenders, and historically it typically results in a coin operation. ::He says this looking directly at the Klingon Captain.:: Unless, of course, you intend to level any opposition from orbit. In that case, I would leave that to you. I know Klingon Photon Torpedoes are much more devastating.
M-Iko: Response
Ukinix: Response
Iovianus: Response
Moore: That being said, the "nuke it from orbit" option omits the chance of gathering valuable intelligence. Intelligence we no doubt will need. After all, intelligence is key to winning a war. I believe it was Kahless who said, "While fighting, only using brute strength is not enough."
M-Iko: Response
Moore: I did notice something intriguing about your ship. You have phasers, which is quite odd. I figured a Bird of Prey like this would only have disruptors, yet you have both. I'm tempted to ask how you bypassed the triggering of an isoton relay overload. You're not using dual-phase compensators to modulate the energy flow between weapons, are you? Or perhaps two power systems, like on Cardassian ships? ::He looked at her for a moment, partially questioning if she would even know, but also realizing he'd let his curiosity get the better of him.:: But I digress. You have phasers, and that is useful.
M-Iko: Response
Moore: You could provide air support, using disruptors for your hard targets and setting the phasers to a lower power setting for stunning groups of troops. Once again, I know it's easy to just blast them from orbit, but this preserves any valuable intel we might need to topple any resistance—more or less an empire.
