((Scout Ship Miombo - Edge of Trenvonn Space))

Berapli: =/\= The Vaadwaur? You are certain? =/\=

Orrey: =/\= Yes. We have recovered organic matter from the crash site we are in the center of.=/\=

Taelon: =/\= We have other ships in the area, as the Doctor said. If you allow us to reconvene with them, and assist us with your own knowledge, we can be done swiftly and withdraw…=/\=

Saavei thought it was going as well as it could, all things considered. She was having difficulty pinpointing the Turei ship location with underspace.

Saavei: ::quietly:: I can narrow down the general area of the Turei ship but not a precise location, sirs.

Berapli: =/\= I am considering your words. ::she showed her teeth again, though she mistrusted the gesture.:: But there is much knowledge it is perilous to desire. =/\=

Orrey: =/\= There is no harm in sharing knowledge though. =/\=

Taelon: =/\= A-again, no harm or aggression is meant. We would greatly appreciate your assistance…? =/\=

He trailed off into a hopeful question, glancing at the other two.

Varati: =/\= OPs to Daintree, Miombo and Independence-B: Whoever receives it first: the scouts must get away from the vicinity of the subspace rift! Immediately! Part of the rift is on the verge of collapse! Get out of there! =/\=

Saavei: Sirs, priority message from Amity Ops. The subspace rift is on the verge of collapse, they recommend immediate withdrawal. ::On comms again:: =/\= Turei vessel, we have received information the rift may collapse any moment, be advised of navigational hazard =/\=

The last thing Saavei thought they needed was a diplomatic incident with the Turei on top of all of this.

Berapli: =/\= I am aware. Can you not see the beacons? =/\=

Taelon: I heard! Get the message to the Daintree, they’re - they’re closer to the rift.

Orrey: I am not seeing anything.

Saavei: =/\= Saavei to Daintree, Ops indicating the rift on verge of collapse, they recommend we withdraw immediately =/\=

Saavei was relatively sure they would have received the same message but better safe than sorry.

Taelon: =/\= Pardon, beacons? We hadn’t - we didn’t encounter any that were obvious to our sensors - =/\=

Berpali: =/\= There were three in this area. Two, now.  ::a thoughtful pause:: It is the rift remaining that concerns me. =/\=

Taelon: =/\= Understood! Attempting to evade the rift - =/\=

Orrey: =/\= What information do you have on this rip? =/\=

The Miombo rocked as subspace turbulence abruptly increased, buffeting them violently. An alert klaxon sounded as the computer automatically raised shields to protect the vessel. Saavei looked to her panel then over to the two other officers. The scout ship jerked violently a second time, its momentum fighting against the direction it was moving, as the inertial dampeners compensated.

Saavei: The collapse is beginning. We are caught in a gravitational eddy. It is pulling us toward the rift; if we do not escape, the Miombo could be destroyed or pulled into the other side of said rift, potentially underspace.

Pilot: Aware of that! Compensating!

Saavei felt the Miombo's engines straining under the forces at play.

Berapli: =/\= It is a broken jaw, left hanging open. It will not heal, and many might catch themselves on the teeth. I am sending my readings of the rift now. =/\=

Saavei saw Taleon looking at her and the doctor, his jaw tense.

Taelon: Saavei, if you can help our pilot get more out of the engines, um, please do it -

Orrey: =/\= Wonderful. Thank you. =/\=

Berapli: =/\= I would leave the Vaadwaur. But you did not destroy my beacon. =/\=

Taelon: =/\= We didn’t destroy anything. Not that we’re aware of. One, um, moment…. =/\=

On scanners, Saavei now saw the Starshell approaching them nearer. She switched to her Engineering screen and scanned the Miombo's power levels quickly, before beginning to adjust settings. She began diverting power into their engines, carefully watching the monitors so she didn't burn them out in the process. She also boosted power to their navigational deflector, drawing from weapons systems which were useless at the moment, to try and help buoy them against the external forces.

Saavei: Power diverted from weapons and non-essential systems to engines and navigational deflector. Shields are holding, at present. Inertial dampeners are compensating, power levels steady despite the rocking.

Berapli: =/\= How much blame would you lay upon a child for their ignorance? =/\=

The console chimed as the Starshell sent over a signal full of data. The systems weren’t quite compatible, and they’d need to translate from one computer type to another. Saavei's brow furrowed; it wasn't a complicated task, when the ship wasn't in crisis. At the moment, it was more complicated.

Taelon: =/\= Um, very little. Can you - the rift is drawing us in. How are you unaffected? Can you - help? =/\=

Saavei: The Miombo is regaining some maneuverability but it is still limited, Commander... oO Almost like being in the storm again; getting buffeted about Oo ... Acceleration towards the rift is slowing. Translating the Turei data will take some time.

Berapli: =/\= I do not know what you can do, what your ships can do save stumbling through matters you barely know. I might tear you apart should I try to pull you loose. ::A breath. The marks upon her skull shifted back to violet.:: Should it pull you away, follow the beacons. Only then can we find you. =/\=

Orrey: =/\= That is appreciated. =/\=

Taelon gripped the arm of his chair til his knuckles whitened, looking to Orrey and Saavei.

Taelon: Suggestions or recommendations?

The ship continued to shudder and struggle under them, the engines audibly working. But they’d stopped moving towards the rift…for now. They just weren’t moving away from it, either. And the Daintree…

Orrey: Limit the computer translating the data. We need that power elsewhere.

Saavei: Yes sir. At present, the Miombo is holding its position. ::Said as their ship rocked again:: Commander, the Daintree has suffered damage to its starboard engine. She is in a spin.

Taelon: =/\= Daintree! I’m forwarding the Turei’s data to you. They said to follow the beacons - I think she might have meant ones in underspace.  =/\=

Hopper: Hopper: =/\= Say again, Miombo? All after “beacons”??? =/\=

Galanis/Shortrith: =/\= Response =/\=

Saavei: =/\= Daintree, if you are pulled into underspace, the Turei states to follow the beacons there. =/\= ::She looked to Taelon:: Commander, communications with the Daintree are being disrupted. I cannot guarantee they heard us. They are dangerously near the rift.

Saavei also knew Commander Hopper was aboard that ship; if anyone could navigate underspace 'on the fly', it would hopefully be the advanced physics PHD member.

Taelon scowled down at the consoles in front of him.

Taelon: Do we have a tractor beam that can help them? Can we bring them onboard with the transporter? Anything?

Orrey: Actually yes. If we tap into the probe and overload the shield emitters there toward the Daintree it could create a pulse to push them away. We would lose the probe but that is calculated.

Saavei: Losing a probe is an acceptable loss over losing the Daintree or Miombo. ::Her hands moved on her screen, pulling up sensors and calculations:: Projecting scenario details to your screens now.

Saavei thought it likely the Miombo would need to be repaired back at Amity if they did so. Also an acceptable loss in material, if it saved the Daintree. Starfleet vessels were well-constructed and this one was certainly being put to the test.

Orrey: Same with our own. We can blow our shield emitters on that side to give us an umph away from the gravity well then throw everything into the engines.

Saavei: Overloading our shield emitters may cause hull warping on that side, though at present, the level of external forces should not be sufficient to cause a breach.

Taelon: Response?

Orrey: The other option is to see if we can explain shield bubbles to the Turei and see if we can link up with them to benefit from whatever tech they are using.

Saavei: The Turei should be able to accomplish this, if their systems function similarly to ours. I do not know enough about their technology to speculate but it would be invaluable if they were able and willing.

Less for the size of the Turei ship and for the fact that it was engineered to handle the very forces which the Daintree and Miombo were struggling with. She was tempted to perform a scan of the Starshell's shields and engines, but refrained as she didn't wish to make any action which could be perceived as hostile. That the Turei weren't attempting to delete the Starfleet ship sensor logs at the moment was progress from Voyager's encounter with them.

Taelon: Response?

Saavei: Updating Ops, Commanders. ::She opened up her communications array:: =/\= Miombo to Ops, the Daintree has been damaged. We are attempting to assist. There is a Turei vessel, the Starshell, with us. =/\=

Perhaps they could launch the Yosemite, but that was a decision above her rank. She was unsure how well her communications went outside of the Miombo's general area. She knew the team on Amity had to be closely monitoring the situation.

Taelon/Orrey/Berepali: Response?

Saavei projected the Daintree's spin and current course for her teammates to see. They'd regained some control, it appeared, their spin having slowed but the other Talon-class scout was in a perilous place. The forces on it would be much stronger than the ones on the Miombo, which their engines were currently holding steady if rocky.

Saavei: Commanders, the Daintree will soon slip past the event horizon of the rift unless it regains control. ::She left out that the Daintree could also be ripped apart; in past, higher-stress circumstances, Commander Iko hadn't appreciated such blunt assessments:: If we are going to create that pulse with the probe, the time is now.

Taelon/Orrey/Berepali: Response?

Saavei: Yes sir. ::She pulled up the LCARS to complete her assigned task:: If the Starshell is able to extend its shields, we can get closer to the Daintree and help pull them free with our tractor beam as well.

But she deferred such negotiations to the ranking officers aboard.

Taelon/Orrey/Berepali: Response?

Saavei: At present, the Daintree is operating under maneuvering thrusters. Its port engines are still functional. Without assistance, I do not believe they will generate enough acceleration to clear the rift. Transporters remain an option but it is difficult to acquire a lock with the subspace interference around them. Our current course of action remains the most statistically likely to succeed.

Saavei kept what those statistics were to herself. The odds were not 'good' ones but she saw no better alternative at present. She wouldn't wish to attempt to beam the crew off except as a last resort; it would be extremely risky to them.

Taelon/Orrey/Berepali: Response?
