((Twentieth House colony, Idrustix - Day After Ambassador Turnbull’s arrival))
Igre: ~She’s not used to people from the noble houses being nice to her.~
Keehani raised her eyebrows at that.
Keehani: ~Oh? Well-- people from the noble Houses can be... ::choosing words carefully:: important. But sometimes they forget about people’s feelings.~
Aurelio just gave her the evaluating look of a child who’d been picking up on the emotions and thoughts around him since before he was old enough to remember.
Keehani: ~Until six years ago I didn’t even know I was noble. And even then, I still wasn’t. I had to convince some people to make sure my grandmother got that back.~
Igre: ~You must be good at convincing people.
Keehani: ~Which ones haven’t been nice to her? Do you know?~
Aurelio managed not to give a little nod at that, but he did scuff his shoe a little on the trail.
Igre: ~We’re related to the Seventh House. Some of them don’t like that mom is half-Vulcan.~
People seemed to like him a little better, if only because he could talk telepathically easier. Not he was going to like them too much if they didn’t like his mom.
But he didn’t want to think about that for too long. That’d just make everyone sad again, and he did want that ice cream.
Keehani: Response?
((Conference Room, Embassy building - a few minutes later))
The building they’d entered looked big, fancy, and very very empty. Keehani seemed to know her way around, but Aurelio still tried to pay extra attention to the doors and everything so he didn’t get lost if he had to go back.
And also so he’d know where the replicator was.
Computer: Specify flavors for the two ice cream cones.
Keehani: What flavour would you like?
Igre: Ertabis!
He didn’t like the fruit itself, even if there were all sorts of it that grew out of the little parasitic plants in the Jalara Jungle. But all of them were sour and had really big pits.
Keehani: And I will pick... dark chocolate.
The replicator made the ice cream and Keehani handed Aurelio a cone topped with pale blue ice cream.
Keehani: There you go.
Igre: Thank you!
He lifted the ice cream toward his mouth, then stopped and waited until Keehani motioned for him to take a seat. Only then did he start on the ice cream.
The slightly sour bit worked much better with ice cream.
Keehani: Mmm. Not bad. Although, Wil’s right, the ice cream outlet on Amity is special. ::To Aurelio:: Is yours good? ::To replicator:: Recycle.
Igre: Mmm.
He didn’t usually get it when he was away from home. They didn’t tend to have it on Risa.
Keehani: So. Tell me all about you, Aurelio. What are your favourite things.
There was just a little twitch of emotion from Aurelio at that, and he squished his fingers just a little too tight around his cone before relaxing again. He’d had a few extra lessons about questions from strangers, even if the stranger was his mom’s boss.
Igre: I like swimming and surfing and I really want to know how the Geobacter lucia works. And more about the nebula. Taelon will probably ask me about it again and I want to give him a better answer.
Keehani: Response
Igre: He’s a scientist. So is Grandfather, but Grandfather likes to study big scary animals.
The particular enthusiasm Aurelio held for the latter was obvious, but he still glanced back at Fureri when he spoke of Taelon.
Keehani: Response
The side of Aurelio’s ice cream started to slide off, and he had to grab of that bit with his mouth. It was, of course, very cold.
((Picnic area, Twentieth House colony, Idrustix))
Aitas: Thank you for the tea, but I really should get back to work. There’s a great deal to do with the personnel changes.
Especially if she wanted to squeeze in as much time as she could with Aurelio.
Which, in a particularly good feat of timing, was when Aurelio and Keehani showed up, with Fureri trailing after the both of them.
Keehani: ::Waving to group:: Hey everyone!
Aitas immediately made her way over toward her son, who turned toward her, his black eyes filled with just a hint of uncertainty.
Aitas just gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. He hadn’t tried to lose Fureri or gone anywhere actively dangerous, so she wasn’t going to worry too much. She could still hear Wil and the others conversing behind her.
Wong/Hopper/Zh'Dograk-Zeth/Any: Response
Ukinix: ::Rubbing hands together:: Good to see you all, champs. Wish me and Keehani luck. ::To Robin:: Let’s catch up later and touch base?
Hopper: Response
Wong: Response
Ukinix: ::playfully:: We’ll get you back during the finals, Dezi. Premierships aren’t won in July.
Zh'Dograk-Zeth/Any: Response
Then Wil moved over to join them, or at least to join Keehani.
Aitas: ::teasing:: Dare I ask what my son has tempted you all into?
Aurelio rolled his eyes and licked a tiny little lingering bit of the ice cream off his fingers.
Keehani: I just gave Aurelio a quick tour around her, before we decided to come to the picnic area. ::to Aurelio:: Did you enjoy it?
Aurelio nodded.
Igre: They had ertabis fruit ice cream, but I still want to try that place on the station.
Aurelio gave the weird (and Starfleet) Wil Ukinix a very pointed look at that. But Wil seemed to be paying more attention to Keehani.
Aitas: ::to Keehani:: Ah, thank you. I’m told I don’t give the best of tours. ::to Wil, lightly:: What’s this about ice cream on the station?
Keehani/Ukinix: Response
Aitas: Ah. I’ll make sure to put that on my schedule. But don’t let me keep you. I am afraid I should get at least a little work done.
Even if she intended to do it while sitting on a beach with a drink, with both a lifeguard and Fureri there to help keep an eye on Aurelio.
Which Aurelio thankfully seemed quite excited about, even after having ice cream.
Keehani/Ukinix: Response
