((Transporter Room 2 - USS Kepler))

D’Cyra hadn't been on a "real" spaceship in ages. The Indy didn't really count. The Kepler, on the other hand, was a real ship. An Intrepid-class vessel. Yes, that definitely gave off a Voyager vibe.

She was having trouble with her EV suit. The models for teenagers fit better, but of course, they didn't have the features designed for adult officers. The larger suits were too big for her in many places, so she had to painstakingly replicate parts to her measurements.

Ah yes, the UAW. What a bunch they were! Taking the Federation as a model was all well and good, but why form their own organization instead of seeking membership if they shared the same social and political goals? The way they "copied" seemed odd, for all their good intentions... why would they want to abandon all their individual characteristics in favour of someone else's ideals? Similar ships, similar uniforms... everything seemed forced and poorly executed.

And then this strange bioterrorist attack. A pre-warp society was supposed to have attacked this group. Who knew the true motive? Perhaps it was a fermented shipment of milk, like the Brill cheese on the Voyager? In any case, it was serious. And if someone was peacefully asking for help, you couldn't very well refuse it, could you?

Be that as it may... together with Ikaia Wong and Vexa Lor, a small team was formed to scientifically and medically investigate the pathogens and, ideally, develop countermeasures.

She didn't yet know Vexa, a Bolian woman with short dark hair and an inviting smile. As long as Niev was occupied with other tasks, she welcomed any helping hand.

Wong: Alright. Let’s review here - if reports are as accurate as they claim to be, we are likely walking into a scenario with an unknown pathogen.

Things like that could get unpleasant, especially if it was a deliberate attack and you didn't know what foreign viruses and/or bacteria you were dealing with. It gave D’Cyra a rather uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Varati: We've prepared for everything imaginable, but not really for biological attacks. Are all the EV suits complete? Is the pressure testing finished? I'm afraid this time it's probably not down to some off cheese...

Lor: Response

Wong: Also, that very much means no touching anything that looks well…. Weird. If it looks like something Barberra would stick her hands on, don’t touch it.

She couldn't yet gauge Vexa's abilities; she had only just started her service on Amity and had been immediately surprised with such an assignment. But that seemed typical for Amity... And Ikaia? He had just passed his final exams and been officially appointed chief medical officer at the outpost, which coincided with Jansen's resignation – that was certainly a considerable burden. No wonder, then, that Ikaia also seemed somewhat "downcast."

Varati: ::rolls her eyes:: So I have no desire to find out if I'm immortal... I have updated all our tricorders and sensors again and equipped them with expanded databases and calibrations for biomedical elements.

What was he thinking? Surely he knew her well enough by now to know that while she was daring, i.e., possessed Cluros, she definitely didn't go about her business as jaunty as a certain CPO named Barberra.

Lor: Response

Wong: Any questions?

D’Cyra carefully checked the closures of her suit and verified that the EV suit was functioning correctly. She paid particular attention to the biosensors; after all, you never knew what you were dealing with if some pathogen crippled the ship's systems.

Varati: I'm ready; final check of the EV suits? The field kits are ready, too. I'm ready to go, even if it means going without my chocolate again. ::sighs::

Lor: Response

Three 760 Research Field Kits were also available; extra tricorder with medical equipment, analysis tool, injectors, sample vessels, extractors, hypospray infuser and everything else needed for biological-technical research.

Varati: ::in thoughts:: I just hope I haven't forgotten anything... I haven't dealt with biological topics since the academy. ::to Vexa:: Are you more familiar with that, Lt. Lor? I don't think we've even had a chance to introduce ourselves properly? It's always so hectic when there's a new mission.

Lor/Wong: Response

D’Cyra felt a little uncomfortable asking now, but there had been no opportunity to do so before, and she didn't want to start such a mission completely clueless, without knowing who her new team member actually was.

Varati: Thanks… I’m D’Cyra Varati, science officer. And most recently, I've been focusing more on our drones, buoys, and communication systems.

Lor/Wong: Response

She had forgotten something: D’Cyra had no idea who their contact person at the UAW was.

oO Hopefully a real scientist and not someone pretending to be one. Oo

Varati: What's the name of our contact person on the Enterprise? I feel like I only ever get half the documents...

The fact that the UAW had to name their ship Enterprise... well, that was rather presumptuous. But oh well, there was no copyright on that.

Lor/Wong: Response
