((Engineering department, Amity Outpost))

Seleya: Not at this time, I was curious about the limitations, given Amity’s situation. When these micro-wormholes, or other phenomena do allow us live communication, is that artificially made, natural occurrences, or a bit of both? And two follow ups, how often are these live communications, and should there be an immediate need for communication outside these time windows, does Amity have such capabilities?

Depending on the time delays, Seleya would be concerned with their system security. While Amity didn’t deal with the typical federation species, some vulnerabilities could be discovered by anyone. And then there were species, like the Vaadwuar where that distance was not as major a factor for them.

Saavei: Natural phenomena. Though as with Operation Watson, it utilized a quantum singularity to 'bounce' a signal. With similar applications, we can generate regular moments of limited contact. Stellar cartography and communications often work hand in hand, to chart the relative positions of the requisite celestial phenomenon to create the desired effect. The advantage to the Outpost being we are at a fixed orbit through this part of space and it is easier to calculate a starting and ending point, compared to when the USS Voyager was in motion.

Seleya: Thank you, ensign. Do we have any back-up systems, if say the system is offline for an extended period? Even if it takes much longer? Also how do we compensate for our long periods of silence, operations wise. I can imagine there are several vulnerabilities we need to actively monitor.

Saavei: Situationally, there are several security concerns in the area, but such is not my area of expertise and I would not wish to mis-speak. We have back up arrays and replacement parts, should the physical components be damaged. We receive supplies regularly on QSD-equipped vessels, though the travel time remains six weeks in general. If the comms system was offline for an extended period, I theorize Starfleet would dispatch a QSD vessel to investigate when we were overdue, but unless already enroute it would take them considerable time to traverse the distance. Operations-wise, Starfleet is here in a supportive role to the FDC, and it has been my limited experience that Commander Ukinix defers to them in most matters of normal policy and operations. Amity Outpost is on the frontier, not unlike Starfleet of a century ago. Part of why the FDC is a great asset to us; the need for friendships in this part of space cannot be overstated.

Seleya: I do appreciate you talking with me, hopefully I am not taking you away from your duties. If you would prefer we can talk later? Maybe over a meal off-duty, this all is a personal project anyways.

Saavei: The repair list was here yesterday and a variant of it will be here tomorrow. A moment of discussion during such is not an unpleasant diversion. If you would prefer to speak more over a meal in the future, I am sure I can find time to accommodate.

Seleya gave a brief smile to Saavei, she at least didn’t seem disinterested. Which Seleya thought was good. Once she was done she would have to be quick about getting to the point. Vulcans sometimes didn’t always pick up, or assume the implications Seleya occasionally suggested.

Seleya: Thank you, Ensign

Saavei: ::Thought a moment, then:: Further regarding security at the Outpost, the USS Shelby is also stationed in the Barossa Sector. I am unsure of its current location and assignment, but it also operates as an extension as the FDC with Starfleet assistance.

Seleya: That is good to know, I will notate that. I will look into what other ships support the station. But I suppose this being a FDC station, it can make certain things tricky.

Saavei: If you require further information about various systems, I can direct you to more specialized personnel. I recommend avoiding Crewman Phan'ta'Go unless you have an excess of time. He is... conversant. Extremely so.

Seleya: I will probably avoid him, but I wouldn’t mind a full list of specialists to follow up with.

Saavei: Response

Seleya took down each name in her PADD, she would hopefully find the time to meet with some of them before she returned to the Beta Quadrant.

Seleya: Thank you, Ensign. But I wanted to circle back to meeting with you off-duty.

Saavei: Response

Seleya: To be completely candid, I am asking you out. For drinks, a meal, or even chocolate given your biology, if that is to your liking. Then see where the night logically goes?

Seleya smirked a little, teasingly adding the ‘logically’ at the end. She always found flirting with Vulcans a fun challenge, so long as Saavei was receptive to her advances.
