to Amity Outpost – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Japanese Garden Teahouse, Peace Park - Amity Station))

A lovely young lady had taken up Jakarn’s offer to join him, and he was chuffed.

Jakarn: I’m afraid it’s my first time here. I’m quite curious to see what they offer. Have you been here before?

She took a moment to remove her heeled shoes. The pains of still having organic feet and ankles gave him a twinge of phantom pains; his own legs long replaced, but the centuries-old memories of that pain lingered.

Varati: ::relieved:: Aah! Oh, yes, I've been here a few times. They have very good oolong tea, even if it's not Japanese. And I love the homemade matcha ice cream! You have to try this! The Wagyu beef is also said to be excellent, as is the sushi with tofu and nori, if that appeals to you more.

Jakarn: Lovely - a new experience for the both of us, then. ::He held out a hand, wrists and fingers just as covered in golden jewelry as the rest of him.:: To whom do I have the honor?

Varati: ::in thoughts, quiet:: That’s awesome… Oh, I beg my pardon! How impolite of me. I’m D’Cyra… D’Cyra Varati.

She stood to shake his hand formally, the twinge of pain crossing her face like a shadow. Jakarn simply shook her hand back, ducking his head in polite greeting.

Varati: And with whom do I have the honour of spending my lunch?

Jakarn: The honor is mine, my dear. I’m Jakarn.

The all-too-familiar expression of recognition dawned on her face. Jakarn was always a little amused when he saw it; so many cultures and species, but the look of surprise was always clear. Some echo of that progenitor species, perhaps?

Varati: Oh, it's a pleasure! You all seemed so familiar! What a welcome coincidence to welcome such a well-known travel writer here on Amity. What brings you so far out into the Delta Quadrant?

Jakarn: Curiosity, vacation, and research; mostly the latter, I admit.

That this was once his home didn’t need to be said - somewhere amid those myriad stars you could see from Amity was El-Auria’s sun, now doubtless shrouded in the black of the Borg. He tried not to lie to himself, but hope sprang eternal when he searched the starfield. Maybe…

Varati: Ah, I see, it's definitely worth the long journey. ::pause and smiles at him:: I think we actually had classic books from “The Adventures of Captain Spanky”-series when we were children. But back then I didn't really understand them. ::soft giggle:: I'm ashamed to admit I haven't read “Aiden Price” yet. And "At Sword's Point," well, that caused quite a stir when it was published. Many cajs / "families" weren't very amused by it… But I'll have to ask you something personal about that later, if I may... Ah, but first we should order something – do you know what you'd like?

That At Sword’s Point had been controversial was hardly a surprise, but her comment certainly caught his attention. It was rare to see Orions amid the Federation’s peoples, something he hoped would change.

Jakarn: Did you now? I hope The Captain’s adventures didn’t annoy your parents too much. And, ah, what was that you recommended - the Waygu beef and the macha ice cream? Those sound lovely - the beef first, perhaps.

He’d picked up the carefully placed booklet left on the table. It, like the teahouse, was elegant, printed on thick paper and bound in silken cord. Each entry had translations below it, and he glanced down the list in idle curiosity. Human languages, Betazed, Ferengar, Klingon…but no native Deltan languages. A shame, that, but he could hardly blame them.

Varati: Response

Jakarn: It recommends the sencha green tea as a pairing with the beef; that, or macha. Does either strike your interest?

Varati: Response

The attendant came by to take their orders, dressed in what Jakarn vaguely recognized as traditional garb. Earth had a rainbow of different traditions; he could only assume this one was appropriate.

The culture that the teahouse emanated was different than some of the others, he thought. Refined, ceremonial, and quiet.

But his meal companion was more interesting than his surroundings. He folded his hands in his lap, his heavy silk over-robe pooling his long sleeves.

Jakarn: Well, then, miss D’Cyra; what called you to the Delta Quadrant? Are you with Starfleet?

Varati: Response
