Ambassador Rivi Vataix: It's Always Sunny in the Delta Quadrant (Part 2)

((Situation Room, Copernicus Center - Level 6, Amity Outpost))

Rivi and her senior staff had gathered in the larger of the two situation rooms in the tower. They watched as the news report played out on the large display screen. 

Paak News Report: ...the aliens were quickly arrested following their insults and threats to the Paak and Paak people. The Paak officially announced that she was unperturbed by the threat posed and has mobilized the Paak military to prepare all defenses against this "United Federation of Planets" should they seek to follow through on the male alien's words.

Paak (leader): I declare to this United Federation that you will not succeed in your Paak. We have captured your Paak and will obtain the Paak we need to survive.

Paak News Report: We here at Paak have obtained exclusive footage by a local Paak who was at Paak during the initial encounter.

The video changed to grainy footage of a gathering of officials, although the familiar face of Wil and Robin could be seen in the middle of the alien congregation.

Ukinix: It is an honour, Paak, to be welcomed to Paak, and to meet the leading representative of the Paak people. Paak “Paak” of the Paak people, my commanding officer is an Ambassador, and I’m sure-

Paak #3: You *dare* insult our Paak with such *words*?

Ukinix: ::To Robin:: What’d I say?

Hopper: ::To Wil::  You said “Pa–”  ::cutting herself off::  You said the word. Their word.

Ukinix: “Paak”.  I said “Paak”, right?

Paak #6: Make him stop… make him stop!

There was the sound of more yelling before the video stopped. As the others digested what they just saw, Rivi just continued to stare at the image of Wil and Robin frozen on the screen.

Anyone: Response

Vataix: The USS Kitty Hawk was studying a pulsar and picked up this signal from the third planet of the system that Wil and Robin were surveying. There's no sign of their shuttle, which means they likely landed... or crashed.

Keehani/Carter/Jolara/Kizat: Response

Reade/Richards/Iovianus/Iko: Response

Blackwood/Moore/Veeres/Nadeshiko/Wong/Kiani/Gray: Response

Vataix: We've never encountered this species before. It's a First Contact situation. Or rather, at this point, Second Contact given that Wil and Robin have already made an... impression on the planet.

Keehani/Carter/Jolara/Kizat: Response

Reade/Richards/Iovianus/Iko: Response

Blackwood/Moore/Veeres/Nadeshiko/Wong/Kiani/Gray: Response

Vataix: Everyone, this is Lieutenant Commander Rune Jolara. She's our new strategic operations and intelligence officer.

Jolara: Response

Any: Response

Vataix: Rune, does Starfleet Intelligence know anything more about this... "Paak" species?

Jolara: Response

Rivi nodded and looked over at Blackwood, Veers, and Nadeshiko.

Vataix: Ensign Blackwood, given the chief issue here seems to be one of communication--or rather *mis*communication--we need to understand the nuances of the Paak language if we're to find a diplomatic solution.

Blackwood: Response

Vataix: I want you, Cara, and Nadeshiko to work on analyzing the news report and other transmissions detected by the Kitty Hawk to see if we can figure out what exactly Wil said to offend them. We don't want to repeat the mistake or make things worse.

Blackwood/Veers/Nadeshiko: Response

Rivi looked over at Ikaia.

Vataix: Ikaia, much of how we communicate is affected by our biology and evolution is it not?

Wong: Response

Vataix: ::nods:: I want you to work with the science team. Consider yourself assigned as a science officer for this mission.

Wong: Response

Vataix: ::looking to Harrison Kiani:: I trust Dr. Kiani you can handle any medical duties with Petty Officer Gray in the mean time?

Kiani: Response

Gray: Response

Vataix: Wil and Robin could be hurt. I want you two to prepare to be on standby for a rescue mission.

Kiani: Response

Gray: Response

Rivi then turned to the engineers and security and tactical officers among the group.

Vataix: And if we are going to attempt any such rescue, I need Engineering and Security/Tactical doing an analysis of the technological advancement of the Paak. What threat do they pose? If diplomacy should prove unable to resolve this situation... I'd like to know our options for extraction.

Reade/Richards/Iovianus/Iko/Moore: Response

Vataix: Cassian, you'll be leading this effort.

Rivi finally looked over at John, Vaje, Rune, and Keehani.

Vataix: The five of us need to figure out the right approach with these Paak once we're ready to engage them.

Vataix: I'm open to any initial impressions. ::She looked beyond to the last four to everyone else in the room.:: From all of you.
