Moore: The lines of Counselor and friendship blur from time to time, and just like with a new patient, as a friend you just met, you have questions. Can’t be helped.
Nevark: ::chuckling:: Maybe if you take the lead on questions.
Moore: Sure, but to answer your question—my mother is a Starfleet doctor in charge of an orbital hospital, and my father is a captain. My sister is an engineer, so I needed to be different. I wanted to help people; there are so many in need outside the bounds of the Federation.
Nevark: Wow that's interesting, your entire family in Starfleet is incredible.
Moore: Also, to be clear—Tactical, not Security. I joined to be a tactical officer, you know, come up with crazy plans and play with big weapons. Use my brain to solve dangerous problems, preferably peacefully—but if not, then ready for the worst.
Nevark: ::nodding:: Understood, it is different. And it feels like from what you said of your family it makes sense.
Moore: Not that it seems to matter to anyone, and I guess I got shoehorned into Security, but I went to the Academy to be a Tactical Officer, so I’m sticking by that.
He nodded as they crossed the bridge near the waterfall. He then paused for a moment.
Moore: Damn, did I just trauma dump a little bit? ::Shaking his head:: Okay, your turn. So, Counselor? Any particular reason for that?
He smirked a little bit and gave her a wink.
Nevark: Well firstly you’re the one who said friends and counselors lines can blur so I am being a friend right now so it's all good. ::pausing slightly:: As for me as a counsellor I kind of fell into it at the academy.
Kaito raised an eyebrow.
Moore: You just… fell into counseling? Come on, there has to be more than that. I mean, I didn’t fall into Security—it involved a complicated process.
He then noticed Layla grimace. Luckily, they had made it to the Blue Gums BBQ Spot, which meant it was easier to switch topics away from trauma.
Nevark: So urm your opinions on trauma dumping? Are we at that stage of the friendship because it gets kind of complicated.
Moore: Well, it has been about four minutes of friendship—seems like enough time for me. ::Chuckling a little:: Heck, I already got you to agree to lunch, so yes. We are at that stage.
Layla took a deep breath, and that was a cue for him to listen up. Granted, he also started to prep the grill and began replicating the raw food.
Nevark: Ok so the cliffnotes version I wanted to get away from Betazed, and find myself. The Academy gave me a way to do that. Once I was there it was eye opening that the experience of life I had up to that point us urm, not necessarily the typical experience others had. I learnt about myself, who I am and well yeah discovered that turning my brain off a bit and helping people made me feel more whole. So counselling made sense then.
Kaito was getting various plates of veggies ready as he listened, putting them on the grill after a quick brush of a sweet and savory sauce.
Moore: That makes perfect sense.
He put the veggies on the hot grill; they started sizzling away.
Nevark: Response
Moore: Yeah, I kind of did the same thing, but in reverse. With my whole family being Starfleet, I wanted to make sure it was truly my choice, and not one brought on by my upbringing. I wanted to make sure it was me. You know?
Nevark: Response
Kaito talked while he cooked, moving the veggies around and making sure each side was nicely grilled until they were soft and caramelized.
Moore: I traveled, graduated a little early from my high school courses, and with my parents’ blessing, traveled around for almost three years. I went out and saw how life was in the Federation—traveling and working on freighters to make my way. Not that I needed to, but I wanted to. I even—against my mom’s wishes—left Federation space to see what things were really like. And in return, I realized I wanted to be in Starfleet to protect what we’ve got and bring that prosperity to those in need.
Nevark: Response
He started to lay down the thin wagyu steaks on the grill. He then glanced at her.
Moore: So, if you don’t mind me asking, when did you truly know this is what you wanted? What made you go, “This was the one,” and not something else like Engineering or Command?
Nevark: Response
