The captain's team just received a disturbing communication from their first officer - it seemed that someone sabotaged the hangar in which they were working. Fortunately, none of the members of Munro's team were injured, but it did spark the possibility that there might be other landmines waiting for the Artemis crew. Landmines, it would seem, suggested they were on the right track...
When the channel closed, MacKenzie offered an unamused look to Silveira.
MacKenzie: Complications.
Silveira: Of the worst kind.
Breys: Hopefully they didn’t have any time to leave problems behind for us here.
MacKenzie pointed at the console.
MacKenzie: Whatever we do, we should do it methodically... We don't want to risk any possible corruption of the files, in case someone sabotaged these as well.
Silveira: If you find anything suspicious or some link that doesn’t belong there don’t follow it Ensign.
Breys: Alright, I’ll tag anything suspicious, but I won’t dig into it yet.
Vitor already had his tricorder half out of his holster when Breys was speaking - when it was open, he started to modify its settings.
Silveira: Captain, do you think we should sweep the place for explosives?
Breys seemed to agree.
Breys: I can reconfigure my tricorder to look for any residue that may be left from them being planted. With the accident at the hangar this place could go off any minute.
MacKenzie: I suppose that would be a wise precaution now that we can't afford to discount anything...
They weren't sure how much of their conversation the guard had heard - certainly at least the conversation MacKenzie had with Munro via their communicators, and likely some of the away team's current concerns - but with an unspoken nod from Vitor, as though security officers had their own language, the Da'al guard moved toward a console and started to conduct a deep scan of the launch bay.
Vitor holstered his tricorder and moved toward the other two Starfleet officers again.
Silveira: I believe the Da’al will do that work for us now.
Breys smiled.
MacKenzie: Let's hope for our sake it's a thorough job...
MacKenzie offered a smile that attempted to inject some levity into the implication she allowed to hang in the air. Vitor returned the smile as other Da'al workers and security officers shuffled into the control center. He then pointed to an empty console.
Silveira: I am so tempted to access one of their consoles…
Breys: I think we could gain a lot if we could find out more about what all this equipment is for.
MacKenzie: Then we should. We never said we wouldn't try to access information, and they shouldn't assume that we don't need it...
Breys: Just an idea, sirs, but could Lt. Commander Silveira try to recover the logs for this station’s readout from the last set of tests?
MacKenzie: Something you think might be useful...?
Silveira: Response
Breys: We could cross reference it against any shared data on the rod I’m analyzing now, most of the data will be censored but if what we can access doesn’t line up with what is on the rod, we know someone is lying to us.
MacKenzie: ::half-smiling:: Or poor at hiding their tracks. Either way, a win for us. Commander?
Silveira: Response
Breys: Alright, when you’re ready.
MacKenzie: ::nodding:: I'm ready if you are. Proceed.
Silveira: Response
Breys began to read off numbers from her data sheet. There were occasionally small variances, but nothing that seemed to raise any immediate flags. That was, until they got to one particular cell - the variance was so large it was beyond improbable.
Breys: What was that again?
Silveira: Response
Breys: My readout is a tenth of that, what does the sheet label that cell as?
Silveira: Response
MacKenzie's eyes narrowed slightly as her gaze shifted between Breys and Silveira.
MacKenzie: I'm going to guess that's not a good thing...
Breys/Silveira: Response
The commanding officer's lips pursed slightly and she shook her head slowly. Whoever did this, and whatever their motives were had been well hidden, but not perfectly. Now, they were really starting to make progress.
MacKenzie: And so what conclusion does that suggest?
Breys/Silveira: Response
This time, she nodded equally as slowly, with a sense of affirmation this time.
MacKenzie: Mr. Silveira, I believe in your line of work, they call that a lead.
