(( Hermitage, Northern Plains, Rylor ))
Munro: I'm sure many do. And I'm sure you would have been able to as well. Being a Starfleet doctor isn't exactly without its pressures? You said that you bucked against the idea of joining Starfleet? What changed for you?
There was the question that Jira dreaded most of all. "Why did you join Starfleet?" They weren't ashamed of the answer, but it often didn't land well.
Jaran: I was told to join in a vision.
Jira waited a beat, then turned back to Ava.
Jaran: I had an encounter with an Orb, and the Prophets told me to join Starfleet. That my time as clergy on Bajor was over, no matter what I wanted. The matter was already decided. Who was I to argue? ::lightly, smiling:: I assume your experience was pretty similar.
Munro: When I was a little girl I wanted to be an explorer. Then I wanted to be a space pirate :: shrugs :: I thought it was edgy, but mostly it was ‘cause it annoyed my mother. But once I truly thought about it, it was always going to be Starfleet for me.
Ava stood and joined Jira at the window.
Jaran: It must be nice to have that sort of clarity of purpose.
Munro: For what it's worth, doc. I'm glad you found your way to Starfleet. We're lucky to have you.
Jaran: Thank you. I'm glad to have found a home on the Artemis.
Jira looked back out the window and pointed to a spot in the bright late morning sky.
Jaran: Oh, perfect timing. I'm sorry to interrupt this trip down memory lane, but that phenomenon is part of why I invited you out here.
Munro: Response
Jira snorted and moved to the back door.
Jaran: The old prylar here told me about it. Apparently exactly once every 37 days, it's possible to see that aurora-like effect. The Bajorans here have taken to calling it The Prophets' Eye, and they say it's a sign that we're being watched over still though we are far from the Celestial Temple.
Munro: Response
But Jira was already moving outside, beckoning Ava to join them.
Jaran: ::excitedly:: Come on, come on. You're going to join me in one more prayer, if you're willing. Either way, I'll be praying.
Munro: Response
