Cellophane vs. Plastic

I've been wondering about whether cellophane is a good alternative to
plastic for some types of packaging. Turns out yes, but like all
things it has its drawbacks, too. Here's a good article that explains

I agree with you Krista. It's not perfect but it's better than plastic.
It's basically cellulose, so it's biodegradable (unlike plastic).
The process for making it is the same as that for viscose fabric, such as viscose from bamboo.
The main downside (as the article you shared pointed out) is that carbon disulfide is used in the process, and this can be a dangerous chemical.
However, carbon disulfide also occurs naturally (from oceans and marshes) and does not persist in the environment (it breaks down in ~ 12 days). So, although not perfect, I agree that it's preferable to plastic. Similarly, viscose from bamboo is preferable to polyester.
