We have presented circumstantial evidence in Fig. 11 to the effect that horizontal temperature advection by the zonal component of the flow in the lower troposphere plays an important role in setting up the stationary wave pattern associated with the AO. In a similar manner, it seems plausible that anomalously strong westerlies could maintain the above-normal surface air temperatures over the Antarctic Peninsula observed in association with the positive polarity of the SH annular mode. Whether the convergence of eddy heat fluxes by the baroclinic waves also contributes to the warmth of Eurasia during the positive polarity of the AO, as suggested by Rogers and Thompson (1995), remains to be seen. However, a preliminary analysis of J. W. Hurrell (1998, personal communication) indicates that the transient eddy fluxes act to damp rather than maintain the stationary wave pattern in the lower-tropospheric temperature field, consistent with their role in relation to blocking related anomalies (Mullen 1987) and to the climatological-mean stationary waves (Lau and Holopainen 1984). A quantitative assessment of the processes that give rise to the zonally varying features in the annular modes will require numerical experiments with a linearized, baroclinic stationary wave model. This approach has been used by Ting et al. (1996) to investigate the stationary wave response to the observed patterns of variability of the NH wintertime 500-hPa zonally averaged zonal flow. As documented in Wallace et al. (2000), the dominant mode of variability identified by Ting et al. (1996) on the basis of their numerical experiments closely resembles the AO.

Methods: We searched 4 databases from 2000 to July 2011; we handsearched Evidence-based Child Health: A Cochrane Review Journal. We defined an overview as a study that: stated a clear objective; examined an intervention; used explicit methods to identify SRs; collected and synthesized outcome data from the SRs; and intended to include only SRs. We did not restrict inclusion by population characteristics (e.g., adult or children only). Two researchers independently screened studies and applied eligibility criteria. One researcher extracted data with verification by a second. We conducted a descriptive analysis.

Results: From 2,245 citations, 75 overviews were included. The number of overviews increased from 1 in 2000 to 14 in 2010. The interventions were pharmacological (n = 20, 26.7%), non-pharmacological (n = 26, 34.7%), or both (n = 29, 38.7%). Inclusion criteria were clearly stated in 65 overviews. Thirty-three (44%) overviews searched at least 2 databases. The majority reported the years and databases searched (n = 46, 61%), and provided key words (n = 58, 77%). Thirty-nine (52%) overviews included Cochrane SRs only. Two reviewers independently screened and completed full text review in 29 overviews (39%). Methods of data extraction were reported in 45 (60%). Information on quality of individual studies was extracted from the original SRs in 27 (36%) overviews. Quality assessment of the SRs was performed in 28 (37%) overviews; at least 9 different tools were used. Quality of the body of evidence was assessed in 13 (17%) overviews. Most overviews provided a narrative or descriptive analysis of the included SRs. One overview conducted indirect analyses and the other conducted mixed treatment comparisons. Publication bias was discussed in 18 (24%) overviews.

The prevalence of oral cancers (OC) is high in Asian countries, especially in South and Southeast Asia. Asian distinct cultural practices such as betel-quid chewing, and varying patterns of tobacco and alcohol use are important risk factors that predispose to cancer of the oral cavity. The aim of this review is to provide an update on epidemiology of OC between 2000 and 2012. A literature search for this review was conducted on Medline for articles on OC from Asian countries. Some of the articles were also hand searched using Google. High incidence rates were reported from developing nations like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Taiwan and Sri Lanka. While an increasing trend has been observed in Pakistan, Taiwan and Thailand, a decreasing trend is seen in Philippines and Sri Lanka. The mean age of occurrence of cancer in different parts of oral cavity is usually between 51-55 years in most countries. The tongue is the leading site among oral cancers in India. The next most common sites in Asian countries include the buccal mucosa and gingiva. The 5 year survival rate has been low for OC, despite improvements in diagnosis and treatment. Tobacco chewing, smoking and alcohol are the main reasons for the increasing incidence rates. Low socioeconomic status and diet low in nutritional value lacking vegetables and fruits contribute towards the risk. In addition, viral infections, such as HPV and poor oral hygiene, are other important risk factors. Hence, it is important to control OC by screening for early diagnosis and controlling tobacco and alcohol use. It is also necessary to have cancer surveillance at the national-level to collect and utilise data for cancer prevention and control programs.

This type of efficiency is also available to operators who require Mpeg 2 encoding. By using their unique feature set and techniques developed from Mpeg-4 encoding, the ViBE EM2000 encoders greatly improves bandwidth efficiency. In Mpeg-2 applications, the ViBE 2000 can create enough bandwidth within a satellite transponder to carry at least an additional channel.

Based on the most advanced video compression engine on the market today, the ViBE EM2000 establish a new benchmark, not only in performance but also in terms of density, versatility, and power consumption. This encoder line can be configured as a single-channel or multi-channel unit, where the latter offers the advantage of both a reduced footprint and lower power consumption per channel. Each channel can be independently configured for Mpeg-2 or Mpeg-4 encoding, extending the possibilities for hybrid applications.

"Thomson already has an extensive campus here already and an infrasturcutre that has supported operations for a number of different thomson businesses for quite some time," Shaughnessy said. "Of all the locations that we considered, this was the one location that could accommodate all the job growth that we anticipate between now and 2012."

Connor was born at Rose Hospital in Denver on September 29th, 2000, to parents David and Larah. He graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 2018 where he developed a passion for business. He was in his junior year at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he was majoring in Economics and Communications. As a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, Connor served as the community service specialist on the philanthropy board, organizing food drives and other philanthropic projects around Boulder. He cared deeply about the Boulder community, as demonstrated by his interactions with the homeless population, with whom he knew most of by name.

Shortly after the Racal acquisition, Thomson-CSF conducted a strategic review of its portfolio of businesses. It adopted a new organisational structure comprising three business areas: defence, aerospace and information technology.[1] Management decided that the company ought to leverage its dual-purpose technology, marketing itself at particular civil markets that held strong parallels with its established defence and aerospace competencies, such as mobile telecommunications. Meanwhile, non-strategic assets were divested.[1] Thomson-CSF also explored business opportunities further afield. In December 2000, it was announced that the company was forming a joint venture with the American defence company Raytheon. This arrangement was claimed to be first transatlantic joint venture in the defence sector.[1]
