This event is intended for UNESCO Natural World Heritage site protection area management, conservation professionals, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, tourism stakeholders, environmental organisations, students, and all those interested in the future of biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, climate resilience, and collaborative protected area governance.

The strategic exchange programme, funded by the Agence Francaise de Developpement, has brought together leaders and partners from 2021 to 2026 in a sustained peer-to-peer learning partnership focused on strengthening Natural World Heritage site management in compatible, highly complex, socio-ecological landscapes.

Over the course of the cooperation programme, exchange activities have included strategic dialog, virtual workshops, technical studies, field visits, collaborative research engagements, pilot projects, and management learning exchanges between Cape Town and Reunion Island. A major focus of the exchange has been climate change adaptation and resilience within mountain-to-sea ecosystems.

Leaders and specialists from both parks have engaged around emerging climate scenarios, biodiversity vulnerability, the role of fire, invasive species of special concern, and adaptation planning for protected area experiencing increasing climate uncertainty. The cooperation has supported the continued importance of integrating climate science into long-term protected area management planning to maintain the ecological and evolutionary processes that underpin UNESCO Outstanding Universal Value.
