Good morning all,

Some might be interested in the course presented by SAWMA member, Julien Fattebert:

FatBear wildlife science solutions is happy to announce two 1-week courses on

Applied Movement Data Analysis in R

in August 2025, on George Campus, Nelson Mandela University, George, South Africa.

This course targets postgraduate students (BSc Hons, MSc, PhD) and practitioners (reserve ecologists, practitioners in wildlife conservation and ecological research) in need of professional development. The course will provide participants with comprehensive skills in analyzing animal movement data using R, with a focus on practical application to real-world conservation and ecological issues.

By the end of the course, participants will be at ease in using R for animal movement analysis, from data cleaning and home-range estimations to modeling habitat selection and landscape connectivity. This skill set is highly valuable for wildlife ecologists and conservationists aiming to make data-driven decisions to conserve wildlife and their habitat. By building capacity in movement tracking data analysis, the course will equip young researchers and conservationists with the analytical skills required to better understand wildlife behavior and ecological requirement, conserve or restore landscape connectivity, mitigate human-wildlife conflict, and promote coexistence.

The course accommodates participants with various level of R proficiency, with the first course tailored to R beginners and the second course tailored to more minted R users (but not necessarily super-advanced).
