Dear all,

Prof Colleen T Downs, DST NRF SARChI Research Chair in Ecosystem Health and Biodiversity in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, and Dr Mfundo Maseko of the Discipline of Biological Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), Pietermaritzburg campus, are looking for two students (1 PhD and 1 MSc) to work together on urban forest birds and mammals in the Ethekwini Municipality, Durban, South Africa, starting in January 2027 under their supervision at UKZN.

Potential applicants are required to submit a detailed Curriculum Vitae, together with a cover letter indicating their experience and motivation for undertaking this research, to Prof CT Downs via email by 2 June 2026. If successful, they will need to apply for an NRF free-standing bursary associated with the Chair by 4 July 2026.
